WHITHER MALDIVES

We are Maldivians. We are just a spec lost it would seem in the Indian Ocean. Today in the post Maumoon era we seem to be waking up to a myriad of problems. However one way or other for the majority of us we seem to be sure-footedly moving away from the reality of hunger, naked backs, portable water and ascaris.

Taking a stroll down the “metropolis” in Male one is struck by the apparent affluence tantalizingly vibrant and obvious to see. Taking a stroll down the main shaded roads in the islands itself are the signs of a changing landscape pointers to a somewhat questionable brighter today.

Living in a reality of limited resources pitted against unlimited wants, one has obviously got to pay for the evolution of ones condition. This reality has translated to a vast number of Maldivians into living in cramped up, uncomfortable, unhygienic and socially unacceptable conditions.

I dare say that what we are spared in the Maldives are slums. I suspect this is probably due to the scarcity of land in Male and the non-availability of Government land for squatters, rather than by express design. For those who would like equate super cramped up conditions to slum dwelling, I would invite them to visit a slum area in any of the south Asian countries. The difference is stark.

Living in ultra-cramped conditions in Male no doubt breeds’ problems that are common to such living conditions found in similar living conditions all over the world. What are these problems? The obvious problems of Drugs, crime, health & mental health problems are obvious and in my view just the tip of the iceberg.

Does the problem stop there - with us who live in cramped up appalling conditions? What about the more fortunate Maldivians living in better living conditions? What is their reality? What is their sort? Has mega bucks, and cool digs and ultra mod life styles powered by BSc’s, MA’s and PhD’s sorted out their problems? I wonder! Do you wonder?

Do we Maldivians have a drug problem? Crime problem? Teenage problem? Pedophile problem? Attitude problem? Homosexual problem? Violence problem? Racist problem? Terrorist problem? Fundamentalist problem? Credibility problem? Reading the print media – Are there any problems at all?

Come on! Lets hear you say it? Maybe you would like to say that we have no problems! No major issues like in New York, Rome, London, Amsterdam, Paris, Beijing & Tokyo? Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!
Seeing the problem in my view is half the problem solved. Lets hear your views.

For the first time, i read a very nice post from you. I agree with you 100 mil % on this one.
You have outlined the root cause of the problem and the problems in our society and never mentioned about Sharia law, Jails, beheading or anything, i like that. We have to understand the reasons and tackle those.
Appreciate you bringing this to blog readers!
May you be blessed!

@ jasmine

Nice to see a normal size post. Thanks. I think your attempt to see all problems boiled down to a mother of all problems in over-crowding is simplistic. I think this post in the main demonstrates your illetracy in sociology and social sciences. I suspect that your attempt at creating an acceptable mask for the Haabi Frankenstein attempting to take root in Maldives; having run out of steam, you are attempting the sociology card. Forgive the cynissm. After weeks on end pontificating by you, I’m not as easily placated as friend Yahya up there.

Your Haaabi critics adviced you to read up islam. I advice you to get a quick fix on social sciences. My verdict – you fail.

@ yahya

What do you make of this mutation? Not one Hadees, Not one Quranic verse, Not one mention of Allah. Not one God Bless You. This gives me "goose pimples".

Go round any blogs and find that comments are by a set of core of visitors. They return often and contribute and enjoy doing that. By this the blog becomes interesting and the visitors become a collective. Looks as if to me Jasmine has lost her core clientele, because she choose to publish everything without thought to “censorship”. Thakuru, Muiz, Verify, Dario, Yusuf, Hussein all abandoned her for this . I think simply because they did not agree with the free expression allowed by this sorry blog. Whilst it was going it was good to see the debates by the religionists and secularists. Interestedly none of them really enjoyed a free for all, no holds barred discussion. That was unique. Now all we have to speculate on death of the site.

What damned rubbish? You are completely out of touch with reality? Lady, You are barking up the wrong tree! You have no idea of what you write.

I enjoyed your work. You gave me purpose to do something for Islam. I started reading about Islam, instead of meeting friends on net. Many tid bits I learnt by so many brothers and sisters comments. I enjoyed reading hadis on your site. I never knew such touching hadis existed before. Want you to know, your work helped me. A lot. Khuddhafiz – May Allah reward you. Don’t pay attention to unkind words here. They wanted to hurt you. Iggy them. Please do your work as before.

HADITH 42
On the authority of Anas, who said: I heard the messenger of Allah say:

p Allah the Almighty has said: "O son of Adam, so long as you call upon Me and ask of Me, I shall forgive you for what you have done, and I shall not mind. O son of Adam, were your sins to reach the clouds of the sky and were you then to ask forgiveness of Me, I would forgive you. O son of Adam, were you to come to Me with sins nearly as great as the earth and were you then to face Me, ascribing no partner to Me, I would bring you forgiveness nearly as great as its."

related by Al-Tirmithi, who said that it was a good and sound Hadith.

Surfing the net I picked some that I thought might be kind a good for you. It might also help you to understand people like jasmine better.

“Even though you believe that an apple is the only fruit worth eating, there are oranges in this world and some people will always eat oranges and reject apples, no matter how delicious you describe apples' taste. And you have the right to expect that others will allow you to pass up their fruit and not be offended.”

Something has happened here. It seems to me Jasmine has been persuaded to tone down her “Godliness”. Strange thing. As Yahya notes all the characteristics of her normal rhetoric is absent. I have been through her posts, and the transformation is obvious. In this place a Hilmy was pushing jasmine, and she really had no answers to hilmy. Maybe she has decided to go secular because she was asked to shut up about religion. What can you say if one can switch on and off thoughts like this?

Anas ibn Malik asked A'isha (rAa) the wife of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and the Mother of the Believers: "O Mother, when does the Earth shake and quake (zalzala)?" She replied, "O Son, its when drinking intoxicants spreads, as well as adultery and other forms of disobedience. Then Allah tells the Earth to shake and quake." So Anas asked, "Is it as a punishment?" She replied, "No! But it is mercy for them (so they may wake up)." Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said, "If disobedience spreads in my Ummah, Allah will overwhelm them with calamities."

"Invite (all) to the Way of your Lord with wisdom and beautiful preaching; and argue with them in ways that are best and most gracious: for your Lord knows best, who have strayed from His Path, and who receive guidance." (16:125)

The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said, "Either you enjoin Good and forbid Evil or else Allah will send His punishment to you, and you will supplicate to Him, but He won't respond."

The Companions asked the Messenger of Allah, "Will we be destroyed even if the righteous ones are amongst us?" Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) replied, "Yes, if corruption increases." It was also reported that Allah ordered Jibreel to destroy a village that had become extremely corrupted, but Jibreel asked Allah, "O Allah, in this village is your servant that constantly prays to You", Allah replied, "Start with him! For his face never changed with disapproval to what had been going on." Because this righteous man was passive, he too was punished with the sinners.

A Muslim student in the 21st Century: He lived in a "Muslim country" that was as far as possible from Islam. There wasn't a single mosque or even a prayer room in any university in the whole country. On the first day of his freshman year he asked around for a mosque or a prayer room and was answered with strange looks as if he was asking how to reach Mars. Finally a janitor told him that there aren’t any, but he could pray in an empty room in the basement. It was a dark humid room with a worn out carpet. The student said, "No, I won't pray under ground!" He went up in the middle of the campus and cried out the azan (call for prayer). People stopped and watched this strange scene. After the azan he sat for a couple of minutes then got up to pray. First few days he was alone, then the next week students started to join him because they still had faith in their hearts even though it was buried under layers of worldly distractions. The Dean saw this and was troubled by the fact that the students would make ablution (wudu') in the bathrooms and walk dripping water until they reach the prayer area, which was outdoors. The image of shoes taken off and scattered next to the students during praying also troubled him. So what did the Dean do? He built a Mosque!! Not only that, but all the surrounding Universities knew about it and they too built mosques in each campus. Can you believe that? It all started with one student that refused to be passive and had the courage and dedication to take an action.

@ All of you who wrote your comments regarding my post.

Judging from the tone of the many posts it seems to me that I have been misunderstood. Let me point out that the point in writing this blog is not to establish a great readership. I confess that the whole purpose has been for me to advance spiritually. When one works believing deep down that one is fulfilling ones duty, then one derives benefit from that in many planes. From this perspective it just does not matter if there are 100 readers, just one or none. I’m doing my duty, in trying to remind myself and others of Allah, His Prophet – Pbuh, and to remind us all of our duties to Allah.[1]

Indeed, I would like this blog to be a place where one can discuss about Allah and Islam freely - openly. As this blog has proved there are so many sisters and brothers out there who are willing to take time off their busy schedules to share a Hadis or an Ayat or some experience that demonstrates what Allah’s Deen is all about. Every minute spent with a pure intention, Insha Allah, He that sees into hearts would reward. We are assured in Qudsi Hadis that every step we take towards Allah, Allah observes and responds. [2]

Of course it’s also my hope that we discuss all aspects of Islam. Questions need be asked and Insha Allah some brother or sister would do the research and answer for Allah’s sake. Many questions are framed by Atheists, Christians, Jews & Hindhoo’s that may seems troubling when one does not know the position of Islam on it. In this blog too we have seen them and brothers Thakuru, Verify, Hussein, Yusuf and sisters Daria, Lima and others did research and gave answers that answered the questions. Its my hope that here, youngsters going to foreign countries with limited time would find material or pointers to overcome such questions. [3]

As a brother so aptly puts it, Indeed a true Muslim of necessity lives a life of attestation & testimony. It is the foundational belief of Islam - I bear witness that there is only one God and I bear witness that Muhammad is His messenger. Our lives are driven by belief in tawheed - the absolute oneness of God - and for guidance we turn to sources we believe to be divinely revealed. We Muslims will continue to bear witness to our timeless and universal beliefs, not only because doing so is an essential part of our faith, but also because of the many reminders of why we must. [4]

This being so no matter what the issue at hand a true Muslim sees his world coloured by such considerations. In my piece, “Whither Maldives?” I pose a question. The answer to that I was hoping my readers and I would together explore. The realities that are faced in Maldives are obvious to a believer from a believer’s perspective. What are not obvious are the realities that are faced in Maldives from a sceptic’s perspective. I have started this voyage of discovery from this latter point of view. Together we need to trudge along, with all you - reader’s input. It’s my hope at some point we Insha Allah have the answer to my question – “Whither Maldives”. Please be patient and see if Ayats wouldn’t come into play, If Hadis wouldn’t come to play. Already I dare say relevant Ayats and Hadis are appearing. [5]

Having stated my position thus, However my sincere thanks are to Yahya.

I ask for Allah’s –swt, forgiveness. I shouldn’t have forgotten to conclude my piece by saying. Allah Knows Best. I also agree I should have asked my brothers and sisters to correct me when I’m wrong. It all goes to show you dear Yahya how inadequate my own capabilities are. Please do pray to Allah dear brothers and sisters that He increases are knowledge and Guide us. I surely agree with brother Hilmy, as someone rightly reminds me, when he says that - this what I’m doing; is best done by a person well versed in Islam and full of taqwa. Until such time, for the love of Allah I will keep on trying. So please brothers & sisters help me in this task. Anyway rest assured without your input, this blog looses its intended meaning and would perhaps wither & die – if that is Allah’s Will. :-). [6]

Allah Knows Best. Please do correct me if I’m wrong! [7]

Peace!

Everyone has portable water, a place to sleep and plenty of work to do. Our children go to school, they dress ok, eat ok and work ok. All cannot do high executive jobs, jobs are a plenty for those willing to work at available slots. We are also Muslims and we do not have minority- majority issues as we are basically same – From Addu, Thinadhoo or Male, we Maldivians are fine. By any standards. The secret to our success is us.

I hate to do this but it looks as if there is a mistake in your post. I think your post should read WHITHER MALDIVES?, instead of WITHER MALDIVES?.

Now to more serious stuff…..

With a new era dawning after the people of Maldives kicked out the wily old fox after 30 years, we had every reason to hope for a bright future. We were shackled by a dictatorship of sorts with all our freedoms denied to us. With the dawn of an era with freedoms we had every right to look forward to a future where we were in control of our destiny; for the better or worst.

However it now looks as if the allure of freedoms as we would have liked is just a dream. This has been so due to the short-sightedness of those who were at the helm of the reform movement. When one has to compromise on principles for political expediency then its obvious that we have at issue here nothing but a quest for power and glory. It would now seem that the once promising reform movement has been taken hostage by bigoted clerics. This was allowed to take place due to the short-sightedness of our leaders on whom we placed our trust to lead us to freedoms.

So we have replaced the known devil of 30 years with a form that is still metamorphosising and whose ultimate physiognomy is any body’s guess. Would it be a butterfly or would it be a mutant “Rosemary’s Baby”? In the meantime the forward looking sons and daughters of this nation should be on their guard and make ready to yell out loud and clear that Maldives is no longer some family’s “plaything” but Maldives is ready to pay what it takes to express its desire for freedom to choose.

Let nobody take that precious gift from us – Freedom. Lets say loud and clear Maldives is ready to struggle to demand its freedoms. To me the answer to the question “whither Maldives?” is crystal clear. Forward! To Freedom!

Abdullâh ibn 'Umar said, "The Prophet - sallallâhu ’alayhi wa sallam - came to us and said, 'O Muhajirun, (emigrants from Makkah to al-Madînah) you may be afflicted by five things; God forbid that you should live to see them. If fornication should become widespread, you should realise that this has never happened without new diseases befalling the people which their forebears never suffered. If people should begin to cheat in weighing out goods, you should realise that this has never happened without drought and famine befalling the people, and their rulers oppressing them. If people should withhold Zakat, you should realise that this has never happened without the rain being stopped from falling; and were it not for the animals' sake, it would never rain again. If people should break their covenant with Allah and His Messenger, you should realise that his has never happened without Allah sending an enemy against them to take some of their possessions by force. If the leaders do not govern according to the Book of Allah, you should realise that this has never happened without Allah making them into groups and making them fight one another.' " (Ibn Majah).

Ibn `Abbas (ra) said: "Stones are about to rain down upon you from the sky: I say to you: "Allah's Messenger said..." and you reply: "But Abu Bakr and `Umar said...?"

Because obedience is a form of worship, it is not allowed to obey anyone - be he man or jinn - unless it conforms with obedience to Allah and His Messenger . This is why Ibn `Abbas (ra) repudiated those who, when they were informed that the Prophet had pronounced upon a matter, objected that Abu Bakr As-Siddeeq and `Umar Ibn Al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with them both) 2 had said something different, thus, in effect, preferring the opinions of these two pious Companions over the Revelation of Allah . This incident allegedly occurred during a discussion about Hajj in which Ibn `Abbas (ra) mentioned something which he had heard from Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah . Ibn `Abbas (ra) warned them of Allah's approaching punishment and His Anger for those who preferred the opinions of Abu Bakr and `Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) to the guidance of Allah's Messenger . - In view of this, what may be said of those who prefer the opinions of lesser men over the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Prophet .

An interesting problem was discussed in Hilath Rasheeds blog- Regarding divorce in Maldives and dangers it poses to children. I posted a reply, which I reproduce for you because it has a bearing to the question - WHITHER MALDIVES? :-) { Thank-you Patriot for correcting me!)

It would be safe to say that this issue you raise has been experienced by almost everyone in Maldives at sometime in his/her life in person, amongst family, friends or some acquaintance. I also think it is also safe to say that this phenomenon is seen right across the social strata of Maldivian society – rich, poor, middle of the road, north, south, east and western islands. No wonder it captures the imagination of us all as attested by the interest shown on the silver screen. Invariably they cater to an existing demand for such real life dramas tragic or unpalatable; whichever way you describe it.

Is this unique to Maldives? Hardly. This is very much the case amongst our neighbours too, even though manifestations of the problem is different to ours - not always finding expression in divorce. Going further a field in the Western World and Latin American countries the same problem is encountered with still other masks of expression. Interestingly the most gripping weekly serials in those Western and Latin American countries revolve along the same theme, peppered with high stake business deals and wheeler dealing – all components of real life dramatised.

It would seem that we are face to face with a Universal problem that cuts across all social strata and runs through all economic realities. It’s my contention that with the world shrinking and with the power of communications that we now see, an age-old problem is in the spotlight as attested to by reports in the local news, TV and the net. As you rightly point out it’s a problem that has incalculable adverse effects on children and mothers, whole families and its far-reaching effects taint all levels of society. The social costs of this is so high that it’s near impossible to quantify. Just to get an idea Billions of dollars are actually spent in health and social programs related to problems that can be attributed to this phenomenon that you aptly focus on.

The very fact that huge resources, high levels of education, a whole range of psycho-social programs targeting the problem has failed to address the phenomenal rise of broken families, divorce and associated problems in the most affluent societies underscores the magnitude of the problem. The suggestion of delayed marriages and the hint of experimentation before committing to marriage is the life style norm in most Western and Latin American countries, where the same problems of family break-ups, divorce and all its associated problems show no signs of abating. Late marriage doesn't seem to be the solution.

I see a solution. Turn to Allah for Guidance. The solution Islam offers is multifaceted and comprehensive. Islam I believe calls for a complete change of perception. Women are first and foremost to be given their rightful place alongside man. Many beautiful Koranic verses depict man and women as mutual companions. We need to educate ourselves that Allah has instituted companionship between man and women and that we stand equal before God in all the Obligatory forms of worship owed to Allah. We need to be conscious of the fact that we would be questioned about this companionship that Allah has instituted. The bottom line is that the only distinction there is between man and women before Allah is a distinction of piety. Period.

That’s the first step. In order to safe guard the family that we are trying to protect, Allah forbids the free intermingling of the sexes except those who one cannot marry. Islam recognizes the strong attractive potential of the female form and takes concrete steps to avoid that beauty being used to endanger the wholesome existence of the nuclear family. In this regard men are asked to lower their gaze and we are asked to cover ourselves when going out of our houses in such fashion that our beauty is hidden from all except our blood relations and husbands.

It takes oxygen to feed a fire. Cut off the oxygen, and the fire surely dies. In like manner our beauty is what men often cannot resist and feeds the fires of passion that burns the very foundations of the nuclear family. To save the nuclear family, Islam cuts off the wondrous beauty of our feminine form from all save family that she cannot marry or her husband.

Islam goes further. It recognises that youth with all its hormonal surges and energies and is most liable to go to extremes to answer biological needs so Islam encourages Muslim youth to marry early. In this regard pursuing an education is no excuse not to marry. Many have shown that both are NOT mutually incompatible. Once again cutting out prospective sources that kindle fires of passion that could burn away the roots of the nuclear family, is Islam's answer to dangers of posed to family and the next generation.

I must stop. But the solution to your problem is quite clear "voir" obvious. Cut out the oxygen supply that lights the fires. Suffice it to say, Allah has shown us the beautiful example of the Prophet –Pbuh, as a role model of a husband and father. Indeed we learn that the Prophet who is attested to be in the image of a walking Koran says the best of men are those best to their wives. Maldivians & the world have the solution to their divorce and related problems before them – ISLAM. Its another matter if they really want to save their families and save the next Generation.

Allah Knows Best! Please correct me if wrong & May Allah Bless us all! Ameen.

Peace!

Dialogue Between Khubayb bin `Adiyy and Disbelievers

Khubayb bin `Adiyy was brought to be hung and was asked, "What do you wish o Khubayb?" He said to the disbelieving, pagan polytheists: "I wish to pray two units of prayer", so he stood up, made ablution, quickly prayed two rak`ahs, and then told them: "By Allah, if you would not think that I fear death, I would lengthen the two units of prayer." Then they raised him to hang him and he supplicated against them: "O Allah, count them one by one, kill them to do away with them, and do not leave any one of them." They said: "Do you wish that Muhammad be in your place and that you be with your family and your wealth?" He said, "No, by Allah, I do not wish that the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam, be hurt by a thorn, and that I be with my family and my wealth." Then they killed him.

Biographers, such as Moosa bin `Uqbah, said Khubayb bin `Adiyy said before he was killed: "O Allah, inform the Prophet what happened to me. As-Salaamu `alayka, O Messenger of Allah, as-Salamu `alayka O Messenger of Allah, as-Salamu `alayka O Messenger of Allah." He was in Makkah, while the Messenger, sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam, was in Madinah, and who said at that moment: . `Alaykas-Salam O Khubayb, `Alaykas-Salam O Khubayb, `Alaykas-Salam O Khubayb."

Did you ask Allaah (three times) to let you into the Jennah?

For, Anas, radhiallahu `anhu, reported that the Messenger sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam said:

When someone asks Allaah (three times) to let him into the Jannah, the Jannah says: ‘O Allaah, let him into his Jannah?’ And when someone asks Allaah (three times) to shelter him from the Fire, the Fire says: ‘O Allaah, protect him from the Fire’.” (At-Tirmidhee, an-Nasaa’ee, and al-Haakim; Saheeh al-Jaami` by al-Albaanee no. 6275)

Did you sincerely ask Allaah (ta`ala) for the Shahaadah (martyrdom) today?

For, the Messenger of Allaah, sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam, said: “Whoever asks Allaah (ta`ala) for the Shahaadah with sincerity, Allaah will grant him the rank of martyrs, even if he dies in bed.” (Muslim and others)

Al-Hakim reports in al-Mustadrak, "God will suffice he, who makes his worry in life one; and he, who is branched by worries, God will not care in whichever valley of life he perishes".

The meaning of this is that one should concentrate one's worries from beginning to end on obeying Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala and preparing oneself for his meeting, for this is the greatest of all worries, and the greatest of all matters. For this very reason messengers were sent, and books were revealed, and the trade of Paradise and Hell was set, and the Sirat (the bridge over Hellfire) was laid down, and for which the Scale was put forth.

He who Allah made to see and awakened his heart, gathers his concerns and directs his thought towards the meeting with his creator and master. For this matter is enough to engage one and exhaust all the rest.

Furthermore, the more life enters the heart the more the worry and the preparation. You will not find a man knowledgeable in his religion, sound in his mind but had gathered his soul in this very worry. He would not work, stand nor sit down but in awe of God, unique in his highness and the greatest of all duties ordained. His senses would be directed to serving his master and his tongue would only speak of his praise, and his heart would beat with gratitude, and his eyes would show his deep love with truthful tears.

As for he who channels his worries in all matters of life, don't ask about his well-being, for he is anxious, disturbed, perplexed, sorrowful and lost without any sort of benefit. He is forever in continuous sadness because whoever falls in love with life is killed and who lusts for it will fall sick and who serves it will end up disappointed. We ask Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala to channel all our worries in pleasing him, and dedicate our lives for his obedience, and his worship.

Sometimes i just donno wat to do and just cry. call me cowardish!but this country is in fucking 600AD still. I do not believe in things like i was told to belive or was supposed to believe. But then, i couldn't say it for i know i have a bigger price to pay for just for saying something. Is it wise to keep shut for the sake of a life in the society? Or is it time that we all stood up for this. I know there are thousands of Maldivians who are civilized enough to understand that forcing someone to recite Shahadath is quite simply wrong. I think ppl perspective towards blasphemy is wrong? they believe those who do not believe are drug addicts or somekind of evil person.
I normally do not say this, BUT i have a colleague who is 100% muslis style working in the same office and swear by whatever you believe in most, that im million percent better human than he is. He prays five times a day but lies 20 times. He listens to Quran but never stop talking ill of others. I do not do drugs, i try not to lie as much as possible, i do not speak ill of others, i do not judge ppl on their appearence, i donot steel (well not in years). but hey i donot believe in his faith. i believe in myself and continuous improvement in the human revolution. Stone age, agricultural revolution, industrial revolution etc. We are a greater being than we limit our self to. We do not have time to waste on fucking faith/religion. We need to learn ways and means to live happily with our nature, fellow humans and other species. We need to change our values. We need to change "the one who is most corrupt is the most successful" to "earn it".

If the question is ever about god, weather god exists or not then with as much conviction the athiests would say that god there is not, so would i say there is god but you percieves it not.

questions:
1) if there is no god then how can all this be? how can all these things we see from microscopic level to telescope level be? does something not have to be created for it to be? from the standard big bang theory they say that time started some definite time... prior to that is not known. now for the thing to have started or to have a beggining is ok. but why shall there be no end? what will happen if time ends? does athiesm answer this?

2) the problem with those ppl who are continously attacking the prophet of islam is very simple. they are a little bit mentally unbalanced. for what will you call a person who is visited by the postman with a letter addressed to him and he the reciever without even opening the letter curses the postman and attacks him? a bright fellow? nop, you will call him a mad fellow. right? because its not a mark of brightness to abuse the messenger without looking at the message.

A beautiful story. Please enjoy. Please benefit from this great ladys story.

Umm Salamah: Mother of Believers

By Abdul Wahid Hamidi

Umm Salamah! What an eventful life she had! Her real name was Hind. She was the daughter of one of the notables in the Makhzum clan nicknamed "Zad Ar-Rakib" (which means the provision for the traveler) because he was well known for his generosity, particularly to travelers. Umm Salamah's husband was `Abdullah ibn `Abdul-Asad and they both were among the first people to accept Islam. Only Abu Bakr and a few others, who could be counted on the fingers of one hand, became Muslims before them.
As soon as the news of their becoming Muslims spread, the Quraysh reacted with frenzied anger. They began hounding and persecuting Umm Salamah and her husband. But the couple did not waver or despair and remained steadfast in their new faith.

The persecution became more and more intense. Life in Makkah became unbearable for many of the new Muslims. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) then gave permission for them to immigrate to Abyssinia. Umm Salamah and her husband were in the forefront of these seekers of refuge in a strange land. For Umm Salamah, it meant abandoning her home and giving up the traditional ties of lineage and honor for something new, pursuing the pleasure and reward of Allah.

Despite the protection Umm Salamah and her companions received from the Abyssinian ruler, the desire to return to Makkah, to be near the Prophet and the source of revelation and guidance, persisted.

News eventually reached the emigrants that the number of Muslims in Makkah had increased. Among them were Hamzah ibn `Abdul-Muttalib and `Umar ibn Al-Khattab. Their faith had greatly strengthened the community, and the Quraysh, they heard, had eased the persecution somewhat. Thus a group of the emigrants, urged on by a deep longing in their hearts, decided to return to Makkah.

The easing of the persecution was brief, as the returnees soon found out. The dramatic increase in the number of Muslims following the acceptance of Islam by Hamzah and `Umar had infuriated the Quraysh more than ever. They intensified their persecution and torture to a pitch and intensity not known before. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave permission to his Companions to immigrate to Madinah. Umm Salamah and her husband were among the first to leave.

The hijrah of Umm Salamah and her husband, though, was not as easy as they had imagined. In fact, it was a bitter and painful experience and a particularly harrowing one for her.

Let us leave the story now for Umm Salamah herself to tell:

When Abu Salamah (my husband) decided to leave for Madinah, he prepared a camel for me, hoisted me on it and placed our son Salamah on my lap. My husband then took the lead and went on without stopping or waiting for anything. Before we were out of Makkah, however, some men from my clan stopped us and said to my husband, "Though you are free to do what you like with yourself, you have no power over your wife. She is our daughter. Do you expect us to allow you to take her away from us?"

They then pounced on him and snatched me away from him. My husband's clan, Banu `Abdul-Asad, saw them taking both my child and me. They became hot with rage.

"No! By Allah," they shouted, "we shall not abandon the boy. He is our son and we have a first claim over him."

They took him by the hand and pulled him away from me. Suddenly, in the space of a few moments, I found myself alone and lonely. My husband headed for Madinah by himself and his clan had snatched my son away from me. My own clan, Banu Makhzum, overpowered me and forced me to stay with them.

From the day when my husband and my son were separated from me, I went out at noon every day to that valley and sat at the spot where this tragedy had occurred. I would recall those terrible moments and weep until night fell on me.

I continued like this for a year or so, until one day a man from the Banu Umayyah passed by and saw my condition. He went back to my clan and said, "Why don't you free this poor woman? You have caused her husband and her son to be taken away from her."

He went on trying to soften their hearts and play on their emotions. At last they said to me, "Go and join your husband if you wish."

But how could I join my husband in Madinah and leave my son, a piece of my own flesh and blood, in Makkah among the Banu `Abdul-Asad? How could I be free from anguish and my eyes be free from tears were I to reach the place of hijrah not knowing anything of my little son left behind in Makkah?

Some realized what I was going through and their hearts went out to me. They petitioned the Banu `Abdul-Asad on my behalf and moved them to return my son.

I did not now even want to linger in Makkah until I found someone to travel with me and I was afraid that something might happen that would delay or prevent me from reaching my husband. So I promptly got my camel ready, placed my son on my lap, and left in the direction of Madinah.

I had just about reached Tan'im (about three miles from Makkah) when I met Uthman ibn Talhah. (He was a keeper of the Ka`bah in pre-Islamic times and was not yet a Muslim.)

"Where are you going, daughter of Zad Ar-Rakib?" he asked.

"I am going to my husband in Madinah."

"And there isn't anyone with you?"

"No, by Allah. Except Allah and my little boy here."

"By Allah, I shall never abandon you until you reach Madinah," he vowed.

He then took the reins of my camel and led us on. I have, by Allah, never met an Arab more generous and noble than he. When we reached a resting place, he would make my camel kneel down, wait until I dismounted, lead the camel to a tree and tether it. He would then go to the shade of another tree. When we had rested, he would get the camel ready and lead us on.

This he did every day until we reached Madinah. When we got to a village near Quba' (about two miles from Madinah) belonging to the Banu `Amr ibn `Awf, he said, "Your husband is in this village. Enter it with the blessings of God."

He turned back and headed for Makkah.

Their roads finally met after the long separation. Umm Salamah was overjoyed to see her husband and he was delighted to see his wife and son.

Great and momentous events followed one after the other. There was the battle of Badr, in which Abu Salamah fought. The Muslims returned victorious and strengthened. Then there was the battle of Uhud, in which the Muslims were sorely tested. Abu Salamah came out of this very badly wounded. He appeared at first to respond well to treatment, but his wounds never healed completely and he remained bedridden.

Once, while Umm Salamah was nursing him, he said to her, "I heard the Messenger of Allah saying whenever a calamity afflicts anyone he should say, 'We belong to Allah and to Him shall we return; O Allah, with You I leave my plight for consideration, reward me for my affliction and give me something better than it in exchange for it.'"

Abu Salamah remained sick in bed for several days and then he passed away. With his blessed hands, the Prophet closed the eyes of his dead Companion and invoked Allah to forgive Abu Salamah, raise his degree among those who are rightly guided, take charge of his descendants who remain, make his grave spacious, and grant him light in it.

Umm Salamah remembered the prayer her husband had quoted from the Prophet and began repeating it, "O Lord, with you I leave this my plight for consideration…." But she could not bring herself to continue with "O Lord, give me something better than it in exchange for it." She kept asking herself, "Who could be better than Abu Salamah?" But after a while she completed the supplication.

Umm Salamah did not know a person better than Abu Salamah. She was not aware that Allah spared for her the best ever person-the Prophet himself. He (peace and blessings be upon him) married her, and so it was that Allah answered the prayer of Umm Salamah and gave her better than Abu Salamah. From that day on, Hind Al-Makhzumiyah was no longer the mother of Salamah alone but became the Mother of All Believers (Umm Al-Mu'mineen).

*{What kept men back from belief when Guidance came to them, was nothing but this: they said, "Has Allah sent a man (like us) to be (His) Messenger?" Say, "If there were settled, on earth, angels walking about in peace and quiet, We should certainly have sent them down from the heavens an angel for a messenger.}* (Al-Israa' 17:94-95)

*{You have indeed in the Messenger of Allah a beautiful pattern (of conduct) for anyone whose hope is in Allah and the Final Day, and who engages much in the Praise of Allah.}* (Al-Ahzab 33:21)

*{And whatsoever the Messenger gives you, take it. And whatsoever he forbids, abstain (from it). And keep your duty to Allah. Lo! Allah is stern in reprisal}* (Al-Hashr 59:7)

So Prophet Muhammad is the source par excellence of fully understanding Allah's commands found in the Qur'an. Giving one's own interpretations run the risk of falling into error.

All of the Koran's 114 chapters except one begins with the phrase "Allah is merciful and compassionate." A Muslim is expected to recognize the brotherhood of man and should treat a non-Muslim as a brother. Showing compassion and charity, Muslims believe, is doing service to God. Therefore, it is written in the Koran "No man is a true believer unless he desires for his brother that which he desires for himself. God will not be affectionate to that man who is not affectionate to God's creatures. Assist any person oppressed whether he is Muslim or non-Muslim."
Mohammed repeatedly forbade cruelty to animals, saying in the Hadith popular tradition, "Whoever is kind to the creatures of God is kind to himself."

Similarly, Mohammed taught "A good deed done to a beast is as good as doing good to a human being; while an act of cruelty to a beast is as bad as an act of cruelty to a human being."

The Koran (6:38) explains that such benevolence flows directly from God: "There is not an animal on Earth, nor a bird that flies on it's wings, but they are communities like you."

The Koran does permit meat-eating, but its also encourages healthful foods (which, many Muslims conclude, does not include animal products). Given these traditions, many Shi'ite Muslims and the Islamic mystics, such as the Sufis, see vegetarianism as the Islamic ideal and choose this diet.

OKay, is it fine to greet back Wa'alaikum assalam to a non-moslem if they first greet with Ass'alam alaikum?
mm thats tricky.. its okay i guess. but we never know. but this is a big problem we need to solve.

Okay, is it okay to pray while notes or money in your pocket? for notes has written stuff and money has faces and other symbols, we might be praying for it?

It should be fine, if the money is in your back pocket.. oh wait, what if it fell infront of you when you do sajidha! not good!

Mercy

“Among those who came before you was a man who killed 99 people. He then asked to be guided to the most prolific worshipper from the inhabitants of the earth, and he was directed to a monk. He went to him and told him that he had killed 99 people, and he asked whether it was possible for him to repent. The monk said, ‘No.’ The man killed him, thus making him the 100th victim. He then asked to be directed to the most knowledgeable of the Earth’s inhabitants, and he was guided to a scholar. He went to him and told him that he had killed 100 people, and he asked whether it was possible for him to repent. The scholar said, ‘Yes, and who will stand between you and repentance. Go to such and such land, for in it dwell a people who worship Allah, so go and worship Allah with them. And do not return to your land, for it is indeed a land of evil.’ He left, and when he reached the halfway point of his journey, he died. The angels of Mercy and the angels of Punishment disputed with one another [in regard to his case]. The angels of Mercy said, ‘He came to us repentant, advancing with his heart towards Allah.’ The angels of Punishment said, ‘Indeed, he never performed any good deeds.’ Then an angel came in the form of a human being, and both groups of angels asked him to be the judge between them. He said, ‘Measure the distance between the two lands. Whichever land he is closer to is the land that he is closer to [in terms of being of its people]. They then measured the distance and found that he was closer to the land that he was heading towards, and so it was the angels of Mercy who then took his soul.”

When Umar bin Al-Khattab (RA) despatched the army of Saad bin Abi Waqqas (RA) to the Battle of Al-Qadisiyyah, he advised him: “Fear your sins more than you fear the enemy as your sins are more dangerous to you than your enemy. We Muslims are only victorious over our enemy because their sins outnumber ours, not for any other reason. If our sins were equal to those of our enemy, then they would defeat us due to their superior numbers and resources.”

“So do not weaken and do not grieve, for you will indeed be superior if you are truly believers.”(3:139)

Arrogance, Pride are strange things. Human Beings faced with them are repulsed by them. I have below some verses talking about arrogance. The verses themselves are self-explanotory. This is something we need to learn about because the dangers of them are frightening. Would anyone have any hadis on arrogance please?

I shall keep away from my verses those who show arrogance on the earth with no right to do so. Even if they were to see every sign, they would not believe in it; and if they see the Path of guidance, they do not take it as their way. That is because they have rejected Our signs, and have been neglectful of them... [Qur’an 7:146]

In variably, Allah knows what they conceal and what they reveal. Surely he does not love the arrogant. [Qur’an 16:23]

And do not turn your cheek away from people, and do not walk on the earth haughtily. Surely, Allah does not love every arrogant and boasting ones. [Qur’an 13:18]

Those who quarrel in Allah’s verses without any authority having reached them. It is terribly hateful with Allah and with those who believe. That is how Allah stamps a seal on the entire heart of an arrogant tyrant. [Qur’an 40:35]

Enter the gates of Hell to live in it forever. So, how evil is the abode of the arrogant. [Qur’an 40:76]

Islam provides for mankind a complete way of life from the cradle to the grave. It provides guidance in all spheres of life such as social, economic, political, moral, and spiritual. The best way of living in this world is the way based on the guidance provided by Allah (SWT) through his prophet Muhammad (S). The task before us is to establish and enforce the religion as a whole which the prophet communicated to mankind.

When the prophet's wife Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) was once asked to describe the mode of life and conduct of the prophet she replied: "His morals are the Qur'an." Brothers and Sisters, What else is better than implanting these morals in our lives?

If we don't establish Islam in Daily life, we will go astray. According to the Qur'an men go astray in 3 ways.

* The first is to ignore the guidance of Allah (SWT) and become slaves of desire.
* The second is to give precedence to family, culture, society, customs, and the ways of our forefathers over the commandments of Allah (SWT).
* The third is to ignore the way enunciated by Allah and his messenger and follow the ways of either so-called important people or of other civilizations and cultures.

We must establish Islam in Daily life because Islam is the perfect way of life.

Allah (SWT) revealed the holy Qur'an. The only divine book which has not been or will never ever be changed. He decided that the religion of Islam is the best way of life to live with and to abide by. Surah Al-Imran Aayah 19 reveals: INNAD DEENA IN DULLA HILL ISLAM. "Indeed Islam is the perfect way of life in the sight of Allah."

To realize the full potential of life, to fill it with optimum joy and to lead a truly successful life is your right, provided of course that you understand the correct mode of living and the rules and etiquette's of a successful life, moreover not only should you be acquainted with these rules and etiquette's but you should also be constantly striving to adorn and civilize your life by translating these rules into practice.

Civility and good manners, dignity and courtesy, neatness and purity, discipline and sympathy, hospitality and sacrifice, sincerity and sense of responsibility, fear of god and piety, reliance on God and bold initiative, these are the magnificent features of a truly Islamic life, which we should establish in our daily lives.

Surah Al-Maidah Aayah 3 reveals: ALYOUMA AKMALTU LA KUM DEENA KUM WA ATMAMTU ALAYKUM NI'MATI WA RADITU LA KUMUL ISLAMA DEENA. "This day I have perfected your religion for you and completed my favor to you, and have chosen for you, Islam as your religion."

Islam is not a theoretical ideology in which a Muslim may have academic interest only. Islam is a code of practical life. A Muslim is expected to bring about a pleasant reformation in the practical aspects of human life. He has been created for a full life of struggle. He is a soldier, a warrior against all forces of evil and disintegration. He has been described by his holy Prophet in the following words:
"Whosoever among you finds evil, he should courageously change it into good with his hands, if he is unable to use physical force he may use power of persuasion and speak out against evil, if he cannot condemn and disapprove the evil with his speech, he should at least make up his mind to wipe out the evil at some appropriate time. This last stage is a stage of weakness for establishing Islam in daily life."

The holy Qur'an has therefore given a clear injunction of practical struggle in the field of life. Surah Al- Imran Aayah 104 reveals: WAL TAKUM MIN KUM UMMATUN YAD OONA ILAL KHAIRI WA OOLAAIKA HUMUL MUFLEEHOON. "There must be among you a class who should invite people to paths of righteousness, enjoin good and prohibit evil. Such indeed are the people who will attain salvation."

Now I would like to mention a few ways to establish Islam in our daily lives.

Salah is the basic and most important pillar of Islam. It's importance has been emphasized more than 500 times in the Qur'an. Salah is so important that a hadith says Salah is the only distinction between a believer and a non-believer.

Salah prepares us to worship Allah (SWT) for our entire lives. It helps us to be constantly aware that we are servants of Allah (SWT) and that every moment of our life must be dedicated to obeying him.

Zakat is a social obligation and a kind of worship observed for the welfare of the Muslim community. It is a charity that makes you feel the noble aims of Islam towards good relations, mercy, assistance, and cooperation. It develops and blesses wealth, and elevates us from the level of stinginess and selfishness to the rank of grace and benevolence.

Fasting is a sign of the strengthening of Iman. It regulates your life and puts discipline in it.

Hajj, the pilgrimage brings the Muslim ummah of the whole world together at one place, the holy Kaaba. Giving them unity, equality, and brotherhood.

These pillars of Islam play a great role to establish Islam in the daily life of a Muslim.

In the end, I make dua'a that may Allah (SWT) guide us all and keep us always on the right path-the path laid down by Allah (SWT) himself, for the humanity at large. And that we do everything in our power to establish Islam in our daily lives. May Allah (SWT) bless us all. Ameen.

You asked about salvation in Islam. I came across this verse. Hope it helps. Its not as some people try to make it out that salvation is by works alone. Its first and foremost GRACE and Mercy of Allah.

Allah , says:

..ooOOoo.. " And who despairs of the Mercy of his Lord except those who are astray?" ..ooOOoo.. (Qur'an15:56)

@ Raisa

I asked you this question a long time back. Indeed with all the 5 daily prayers, fasting etc I had accepted that Muslims bought their salvation and paradise, like buying your brand new house for $ & Cents. Living in Maldives I have come to realise that all that I thought to be unappealing and true in your religion had another side that was hard to reject. A Maldivian friend shared with me this parable of a child marooned on an island and who lived to be 100 years involved in nothing but prayers and worship. That parable made us understand how wrong we were to think of “buying ones way into Paradise”.

We would like to ask you or any other reader here about Love in Islam.

We get this idea that God/ Allah is this perfect, Powerful, Knowledgeable, Far away, Pure, Unapproachable, Perfect Being that is Quick to anger, Jealous almost to the point of heartless even though he shows Mercy to His slaves. There is a total silence about love. Where is Love when God is Love?

We as practicing Christians find this concept of God unsettling and impersonal to the point of sheer ruthlessness and ask ourselves – Does this have any relation to why to all intents and purposes devout Muslims exhibit such devastating heartless diabolic ruthlessness as demonstrated in New York, Bali, Madrid, London, Mumbai or Lahore.

From our point of viewpoint God loved mankind so much that he sent down his only begotten son to earth in human form to be sacrificed for our sins. Nowhere do we see a similar dramatic manifestation of divine love in this intricately complex and such precisely mandated religion that is Islam. In everyday expression this translates into a master-slave relationship with all the negativity of harshness, brutality found in slavery as opposed to a father-child relationship full of love and compassion. We after all lovingly call God “FATHER” in our daily prayers.

We appreciate so much your time. Please do not see anything but an exchange of ideas and our wish to learn about your religion.

Mark, why? Why did God have to sacrifice his only begotten child? Can't God just forgive us our sins if we sincerely repent and seek His forgiveness. Why should an innocent be sacrificed for our sins?

Love

The various words used in the Qur'an for God's love can be divided into two categories: those that relate to universal manifestation of divine love and those that refer to a special love reserved for the righteous.

God's love in its universal manifestation is generally referred to in the Qur'an under the terms rafah and rahmah. Rafah can be translated as compassion, kindness or pity, while rahmah is usually rendered as grace, love, blessing or mercy. About God's rahmah the Qur'an says that it encompasses all things:

My punishment I inflict upon whom I will but My rahmah embraces all things... (7:156)

O our Sustainer! You embrace all things within (Your) rahmah and knowledge. (40:7)

These verses reveal that while divine punishment is an act of God's will directed towards some purpose, love or rahmah, as it were, His nature, His normal attitude towards men and other creatures. So it is said in 6:12, 15 that God "has enjoined upon Himself (the rule) of rahmah".

If a non-believer sincerely asks God's help or protection in an emergency, he gets it, although God knows he will turn back to sin as soon as he is rescued. Despite this, he is given an unconditional dose of God's infinite mercy/love that he may find the right path:

*{When trouble touches a man, he cries unto Us (in all postures), lying down on his side, or sitting, or standing. But when We have solved his trouble, he passes on his way as if he had never cried to Us for a trouble that touched him! Thus do the deeds of transgressors seem fair in their eyes!}* (Yunus 10:12)

People everywhere in the world obtain their sustenance from Allah regardless of their beliefs. Many evil people are even very rich because Allah gives them good things in this life, although He knows that they have not earned safety in the hereafter.

Allah gives a person a lifelong opportunity to turn away from sin and disobedience, and to choose the right path in order to receive His forgiveness. Those who commit evil are hurting themselves in this life and the next. However, Allah's forgiveness has no limits and the only condition is asking for it:

*{O My slaves (mankind) who have been prodigal to their own hurt! Despair not of the mercy of Allah, Who forgives all sins. He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.}* (Az-Zumar 39:53-58)

Forgiving sins and accepting repentance is a manifestation of God's love. He is absolutely just and fair to the minutest detail, so everyone gets exactly what they deserved, plus extra measures of compassion, mercy, and forgiveness.

Prophet Muhammad said, "Allah said: 'O son of Adam! I shall go on forgiving you so long as you pray to Me and aspire for My forgiveness whatever may be your sins. O son of Adam! I do not care even if your sins should pile up to the sky and should you beg pardon of Me, I would forgive you. O son of Adam! If you come to Me with an Earth-full of sins and meet Me, not associating anything with Me in worship, I will certainly grant you as much pardon as will fill the earth'" (At-Tirmidhi).

May Allah guide us -Amin-

Rabb
Another attribute of God which relates to God's love is Rabb. This is a difficult word to translate. The cognate verb is used in 17:24 for the care that a child receives from his parents and this provides the best starting point for understanding the idea. God as Rabb is He who is ultimately responsible even for the care our parents give us and Who, of course, provides us with a great many other things which parents do not or cannot. In other words, God's whole role in bringing us into existence, in sustaining our existence and in our growth and development in various aspects, comes under the term Rabb. In English we can do justice to the term by using several such words as Sustainer, Cherisher, Developer. Rabb also includes the idea of having a just claim to the possession of a thing and of having authority over it. In this sense it can be translated as Lord.

Since all the roles that an ideal father plays in relation to his children -- providing for their material and psychological needs, giving necessary guidance to them so that they can grow up into mature adults, and assuming for these purposes authority as the master of the household -- are included in the word Rabb, the Qur'anic term includes the best of the senses in which the New Testament sometimes refers to God as Abba, Father.

But Rabb is preferable to Abba because of two reasons:

1. it properly indicates that God's role as creator, supporter, provider, cherisher, guide and lord is far superior to that of a father, and

2. many individuals may not have had a very good experience with their fathers -- if, for example, they were criminals, or alcoholics, or cruel, or suffer from other serious weaknesses -- and in such individuals the term "Father" may not evoke the best of images and feelings, so that instead of endearing God to them the term may contribute to blocking the development of a close relationship with Him.

May Allah guide us -Amin-

The Qur'an uses several words for the term "love" with different shades of meaning. If all these words -- rafah, rahmah, wudda, hub, etc. -- are translated as "love", then this word is of very frequent occurrence in the Qur'an, appearing on average about once in every 15 aya'h (communications; verses). Even the word hub, which is most commonly translated as love, occurs in application to God so frequently in the Qur'an that it is hardly justified to say that Islam knows only greatness of God, not His love.

In the Qur'an Allah says:

When My servants ask you concerning Me, I am indeed close to them: I listen to the call of every supplicant when he calls on Me.(2:186)

Just as God listens to his calls, man is expected to, and true believers do, listen to what God has to say to him:

Let them (My servants) also with a will listen to My call, and believe in Me that they may walk in the right way. (2:186)

May Allah guide both of you to the right path -Amin-

Shame on you. Indeed a little Knowledge is dangerous. How dare you insinuate such horrible things concerning jasmine. Many would agree with me that Jasmine has been a whif of fresh air, when we need a breadth of fresh air.

Dear brothers of islam, I really do respect both of you and I do understand your concerns but I dont see how and why you call sister jasmine an "apostate". I'm a regular visitor in this blog I've read the many articles and comments written here. I've seen the questions posed by the kuffar's I've seen appropriate responses to such questions. Brothers I'm sure you know takfir is a serious issue since it was authentically reported that the Prophet (salla Allahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“If someone accuses someone of Fusuq or Kufr, such an accusation will be returned to be upon he [who so accused] if that accusation is false.” Narrated Abu Dhar. Bukhari: Vol 8, Book 73, number 71

Thus, for such a declaration, there must be proof. According to Sheikh ul-Islam Ibn Taimiyyah (Rahimullah):

“The person will only be outside Islam when there is no doubt because there is proof against him.” [Majamu Al-Fatwa 12, 467]

Furthermore, for a Muslim to become a kaffir, it is agreed that the person either commits one of the acts which expels the Muslim from the Ummah - such as mocking the Prophet (salla Allahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) - or that the person must have chosen kufr (refer to al-Qurtubi: al-Jamia li Ahkamul Quran, 7/6128) in which case if a Muslim of little or no knowledge does something out of ignorance then that Muslim does not become a kaffir, for Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala says:

“There shall be the Mercy of Allah upon those who err from ignorance if they, and swiftly, regret such error.”(4:17)

Thus, if a Muslim we know makes some mistake, or errs, then Adab Al-Islam requires us - gently and with humility (and if possible in private) - to draw the attention of that Muslim to such a mistake or error. It was reported that the Prophet (salla Allahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“There is no Believer who does not make an error sometimes, or who does not make some mistake which they persist in and do not abandon until they leave this world. For, in truth, the Believer was created to be frequently tried and tested: someone who often regrets (then) forgets, again. But when corrected, they correct themselves.” Reported by at-Tabarani in al-Mujamul Kabir (no. 11,810); hasan.

Dear brothers please do correct me if I'm wrong only Allah knows best.

May Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala protect us from all forms of Al-asabiyyah Al-Jahiliyyah, forgive us for our mistakes, and guide us to and keep us on the Right Path. -Amin-

A young teacher with obvious liberal tendencies explains to his class of small children that he is an atheist. He asks his class if they're atheists too. Not really knowing what atheism is but wanting to be like their teacher, their hands explode into the air like fleshy fireworks. There is, however, one exception. A beautiful girl named Zainab has not gone along with the crowd. The teacher asks her why she has decided to be different. "Because I'm not an atheist."

Then, asks the teacher, "What are you?" "I'm a Muslim." The teacher is a little perturbed now, his face slightly red. He asks Zainab why she is a Muslim. "Well, I was brought up knowing and loving God. My mom is a Muslim, and my dad is a Muslim, so I am a Muslim."
The teacher is now angry. "That's no reason," he says loudly, "what if your mom was a moron, and your dad was a moron, - what would you be then?" She paused, and smiled. "Then," says Zainab, "I'd be an atheist."

Dear Bro/ Sis,

Whatever you do please do keep posting your Ayat & Hadis comments. By doing that you are spreading what Allah and His Prophet wanted spread. Most Ayats and Hadis posted on this blog are without any additions or substractions. Alhamdulillahi.

There is nothing in this blog that a Maldivian wouldn't see if he went out of Maldives or surfed the net. Muslims will encounter different views to what they know & believe to be the truth. Its better we learn of these views expressed in different styles in a sympathetic environment. Here Insha Allah a brother & sister would do the reserch and post a rebuttal.

All Praise and Glory be to Allah -swt. Muslims need not feel underthreat and be saddled with an inferiority complex. Allah's Deen is capable of withstanding whatever the attack. This is so BECAUSE BY ALLAH'S WILL ISLAM HAS ALL THE ANSWERS.

I agree with sister Lima. We must make every effort to treat our Guests. Marc/ Cathy are our Guests. And what wonderful Guests. Indeed among those closest to Muslims are those amongst who profess to be Christians. And History shows that many thousands of them accepted Islam. I also remember that in an exchange Marc and Cathy were quick to Defend Believers of God against an Athiest's query.

On behalf of all of us, Marc/ Cathy we appologise if we have caused you hurt. Please continue to visit us to learn about Islam.

Brothers/ sisters, if I have made an error correct me. If you feel I am not fit to talk about Islam - That too I accept. If that be the case one of you please step forward and take over.

In parting please lets reflect on the following Hadis..

Some people asked Allah's (SWT) Apostle, "Whose Islam is the best? He replied, "One who avoids harming the Muslims with his tongue and hands."

(Narrated by Abu Musa) (Al-Bukhari 1.10).

Allah Knows Best. Please correct me if wrong. May Allah Guide us all. Amin

An old Muslim lived on a farm with his young grandson. Each morning Grandpa was up early sitting at the kitchen table reading his Noble Qur'an.

His grandson wanted to be just like him and tried to imitate him in every way he could.

One day the grandson asked, "Grandpa, I try to read the Noble Qur'an just like you but I don't understand it, and what I do understand I forget as soon as I close the book. What good does reading the Noble Qur'an do?"

The Grandfather quietly turned from putting coal in the stove and replied, "Take this coal basket down to the river and bring me back a basket of water."

The boy did as he was told, but all the water leaked out before he got back to the house. The grandfather laughed and said, "You'll have to move a little faster next time," and sent him back to the river with the basket to try again.

This time the boy ran faster, but again the basket was empty before he returned home.

Out of breath, he told his grandfather that it was impossible to carry water in a basket, and he went to get a bucket instead.

The Grandfather said, "I don't want a bucket of water; I want a basket of water. You're just not trying hard enough," and he went out the door to watch the boy try again.

At this point, the boy knew it was impossible, but he wanted to show his grandfather that even if he ran as fast as he could, the water would leak out before he got back to the house.

The boy again dipped the basket into river and ran hard, but when he reached his grandfather the basket was again empty.

Out of breath, he said, "See Grandpa, it's useless!"

"So you think it is useless?" The Grandfather said, "Look at the basket."

The boy looked at the basket and for the first time realized that the basket was different. It had been transformed from a dirty old coal basket and was now clean, inside and out.

"Son, that's what happens when you read the Noble Qur'an. You might not understand or remember everything, but when you read the Noble Qur'an, you will be changed, inside and out. That is the work of Allah (SWT) in our lives."

The best way to learn is to share what you have learned and practice it in your life

The introduction to surat 86 At - Tariq by Maudoodi.... You will surely enjoy reading this introduction, and rightly be thrilled. Allah is most certainly THE GREATEST.

Introduction of Surah No. 086 At-Tariq (The Nightcomer)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the Name of Allâh, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Name
The Surah taken its name from the word at-tariq in its first verse.

Period of Revelation
The style of its subject matter resembles that of the earliest Surahs revealed at Makkah, but this surah was sent down at a stage when the disbelievers of Makkah were employing all sorts of devices and plans to defeat and frustrate the message of the Qur'an and Muhammad (upon whom be Allah's peace and blessings).

Theme and Subject Matter
It discuses two themes: first that man has to appear before God after death; second, that the Qur'an is a decisive Word which no plan or device of the disbelievers can defeat or frustrate.

First of all, the stars of the heavens have been cited as an evidence that there is nothing in the universe which may continue to exist and survive without guardian over it. Then man has been asked to consider his own self as to how he has been brought into existence from a mere sperm drop and shaped into a living human being. Then it has been said that the God, Who has so brought him into existence, has certainly the power to create him once again, and this resurrection will be for the purpose to subject to scrutiny all the secrets of man which remained hidden in the world. At that time, man will neither be able to escape the consequences of his deeds by his own power, nor will anyone else come to his rescue.

In conclusion, it has been pointed out that just as the falling of rain from the sky and the sprouting of plants and crops from the earth is no child's play but a serious task, so also the truths expressed in the Qur'an are no jest but a firm and unchangeable reality. The disbelievers are involved in the misunderstanding that their plans and devices will defeat the invitation of the Qur'an, but they do not know that Allah too is devising a plan which will bring to naught all their scheming and planning. Than in one sentence the discourse has been summed up, with a word of consolation to the Holy Prophet (upon whom be peace) and a tacit warning to the disbelievers, saying: "Have patience for a while: let the disbelievers do their worst. Before long they will themselves realize whether they have been able to defeat the Qur'an by their scheming or the Qur'an has dominated them in the very place where they are exerting their utmost to defeat it."

Tafsir Ibn Kathir...

Swearing to the Truthfulness of the Qur'an and the Failure of Those Who oppose it

Ibn `Abbas said, "Ar-raj` means rain.'' It has also been narrated from him that he said, "It means the clouds that contain rain.'' He also said,

[وَالسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ الرَّجْعِ ]

(By the sky (having rain clouds) which gives rain, again and again.) "This means that it rains and then it rains (again).''

Qatadah said, "It returns the sustenance of the servants (creatures) every year. Were it not for this, they would all be destroyed and so would their cattle.''

The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) said: "My entire nation is safe, except al-Mujahirin (those who boast of their sins). Among the Mujaharah is that a man commits an (evil) act, and wakes up in the morning while Allah has kept his (sin) a secret, he says: 'O Fulan! Last night I did this and that.' He goes to sleep while Allah has kept his (sin) a secret but he wakes up in the morning and uncovers what Allah has kept a secret!" [Saheeh al-Bukhari]

It was narrated that in the days that Prophet Musa / Moses (pbuh) wandered with Bani Israel (Children of Israel) in the desert, an intense drought befell them. Together, they raised their hands towards the heavens praying for the blessed rain to come. Then, to the astonishment of Prophet Musa / Moses (pbuh) and all those watching, the few scattered clouds that were in the sky vanished, the heat poured down, and the drought intensified.

It was revealed to Prophet Musa / Moses (pbuh) that there was a sinner amongst the tribe of Bani Israel (Children of Israel) who had disobeyed Allah (SWT) for more than forty years of his life.

"Let him separate himself from the congregation," Allah (SWT) told Prophet Musa / Moses (pbuh). "Only then shall I shower you all with rain."

Prophet Musa / Moses (pbuh) then called out to the throngs of humanity, "There is a person amongst us who has disobeyed Allah (SWT) for forty years. Let him separate himself from the congregation and only then shall we be rescued from the drought."

That man waited, looking left and right, hoping that someone else would step forward, but no one did. Sweat poured forth from his brow and he knew that he was the one. The man knew that if he stayed amongst the congregation all would die of thirst and that if he stepped forward he would be humiliated for all eternity.

He raised his hands with a sincerity he had never known before, with humility he had never tasted, and as tears poured down on both cheeks he said, "O Allah, have mercy on me! O Allah, hide my sins! O Allah, forgive me!"

As Prophet Musa / Moses (pbuh) and the people of Bani Israel (Children of Israel) waited for the sinner to step forward, the clouds hugged the sky and the rain poured. Prophet Musa / Moses (pbuh) asked Allah (SWT), "O Allah, you blessed us with rain even though the sinner did not come forward."

And Allah (SWT) replied, "O Musa, it is for the repentance of that very person that I blessed all of Bani Israel (Children of Israel) with water."

Prophet Musa / Moses (pbuh), wanting to know who this blessed man was, asked, "Show him to me O Allah!"

Allah (SWT) replied, "O Musa, I hid his sins for forty years, do you think that after his repentance I shall expose him?"

A man went to a barbershop to have his hair and his beard cut as always. He started to have a good conversation with the barber who attended him. They talked about so many things on various subjects.

Suddenly, they touched the subject of God. The barber said: "Look man, I don't believe that God exists as you say so."

"Why do you say that?" Asked the client

Well, it's so easy; you just have to go out in the street to realize that God does not exist. Oh, tell me, if God existed, would there be so many sick people? Would there be abandoned children? If God existed, there would be neither suffering nor pain. "I can't think of a God who permits all of these things." The client stopped for a moment thinking but he didn't want to respond so as to prevent an argument.

The barber finished his job and the client went out of the shop. Just after he left the barbershop, he saw a man in the street with a long hair and beard (it seems that it had been a long time since he had his cut and he looked so untidy). Then the client again entered the barbershop and he said to the barber: know what? Barbers do not exist.

"How come they don't exist?" asked the barber. "Well I am here and I am a barber."

"No!" - The client exclaimed. "They don't exist because if they did there would be no people with long hair and beard like that man who walks in the street."

"Ah, barbers do exist, what happens is that people do not come to me."

"Exactly!" - Affirmed the client. "That's the point. God does exist, what happens is people don't go to Him and do not look for Him that's why there's so much pain and suffering in the world."

Abu Dharr reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying that Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, said: My servants, I have made oppression unlawful for Me and unlawful for you, so do not commit oppression against one another. My servants, all of you are liable to err except one whom I guide on the right path, so seek right guidance from Me so that I should direct you to the right path. O My servants, all of you are hungry (needy) except one whom I feed, so beg food from Me, so that I may give that to you. O My servants, all of you are naked (need clothes) except one whom I provide garments, so beg clothes from Me, so that I should clothe you. O My servants, you commit error night and day and I am there to pardon your sins, so beg pardon from Me so that I should grant you pardon. O My servants, you can neither do Me any harm nor can you do Me any good. O My servants, even if the first amongst you and the last amongst you and even the whole of human race of yours, and that of jinns even, become (equal in) God-conscious like the heart of a single person amongst you, nothing would add to My Power. O My servants, even if the first amongst you and the last amongst you and the whole human race of yours and that of the Jinns too in unison become the most wicked (all beating) like the heart of a single person, it would cause no loss to My Power. O My servants, even if the first amongst you and the last amongst you and the whole human race of yours and that of jinns also all stand in one plain ground and you ask Me and I confer upon every person what he asks for, it would not. in any way, cause any loss to Me (even less) than that which is caused to the ocean by dipping the needle in it. My servants, these for you I shall reward you for thern, so he who deeds of yours which I am recording finds good should praise Allah and he who does not find that should not blame anyone but his ownself. Sa'id said that when Abu Idris Khaulini narrated this hadith he knelt upon his knees.

In maldives people get to live a better life being a criminal placed in jail. They get a place to sleep, free foods/drinks (tandoori chicken, buriyany), regular showers (according to some sources it mineral water they use), gym facilities, cable tv,etc, etc. In addition to this there is the supply of booze, heroin, weeds. All this without any sweat so its not hard to believe that the jails are over-booked and the growing crime rates in maldives. This is democracy and human rights punishing the murderers, pedophiles, drug dealers of this country.

Look, this shows you the state of affairs of this country. The Prisons are over-flooring not because people need freebies but the system is not working. Can you tell me of any nation on earth who has zero unemployment? If you have un employed, and over months and years, in variably you would have a population living below the powerty line. Prisons cannot operate below the powertyline, given that its state controlled. This would theoretically engender people who would prefer prison to being free – If life is all about eating and drinking. As a matter of fact, begging and preying on the disadvantaged is an alternative to prison.

You exaggerate regarding life in prison.

Why is it that Maldivians are so anti development?

Moon bay Marina project comes to mind. For once what a fantastic futuristic project? This was a project, that could have put Maldives on the map and opened Maldives up to foreign investment as never before. This was one project that could have guaranteed Maldivians their freedom their destiny. No wonder it never had a chanceto get off the board.

Maldives has a shortage of truly educated people. Having a University degree does not mean a person is educated. It means just that you have a piece of paper that you can put forward to make a claim to education. Those with 1st degrees, post graduate degrees and PhD’s mostly behave as bafoon’s. They do not go beyond the pale of worrying about their own pockets and their narrow self-interests.

The most pressing problem facing Madives is the LACK of educated people. What we have are Bafoons with monumental appetities for self-agrandisement and inflated egos. How do we solve this one? I have no idea!

The point is should those murderers, pedophiles and rapists be "punished" instead just putting them in some resort island where they get all facilities for free? Prisoner no longer consider it as a punishment instead they call it vacationing.

@ anonymous.

You ask the question regarding murderers, Pedophiles and rapists. Before you think about them common sense requires us to think of the system that makes of a person a murderer, rapist or pedophile. After 30 years of post Nasir, we are still struggling with the Nasserian model of the criminal justice system where there is a playing out of a travesty of justice involving – a leak, Arrest/ taking in for questioning, all forms of torture, confession, conviction, banishment/jail.

Is there any way of knowing who is really guilty? It’s a system cloaked in secrecy, zero transparency, no proper legal representation and all forms of duress ranging from the psychological to extreme physical torture. One way or other they get what they want.

The rules of evidence is so riddled with holes that the system is at the mercy of “witnesses”. You can manufacture evidence, and most Maldivians one way or other are aware of some case or other where trumped up charges, coached witnesses, greased judges has all gone to make a mockery of the justice system. Is it safe to say that the average Maldivian has no confidence in the criminal-justice system?

Before you talk about sentencing criminals you should be talking about the system that decides who is a criminal. At present the average Maldivian does not have any confidence in the impartiality, expertise, and transparency of the criminal justice system. This is the problem.

I do not think there is any sane Maldivian who would trade his freedom for a plate of rice, goodies and perks granted for good-behaviour. In short PRISON, still has its deterent value.

The time stamp is off, and it would help to inform jasmine or to give a name to your post to help answer back.

the Holy Prophet (saw) said:

Cleanliness is half of faith; the utterance of: All praise belongs to Allah; fills the scales of good works; the utterance of: Holy is Allah and worthy of all praise; fills the space between the heavens and earth; Prayer is light; charity is proof of faith: steadfastness is a glow and the Quran is a plea in your favour or against you. Miracles Performed by the Prophet Muhammad#

Many miracles were performed by the Prophet Muhammad# by God’s permission. These miracles were witnessed by many people. For example:

When the unbelievers in Makkah asked the Prophet Muhammad# to show them a miracle, he showed them the splitting of the moon.

Another miracle was the flowing of water through Muhammad’s# fingers when his companions got thirsty and had no water except a little in a vessel. They came to him and told him that they had no water to make ablution nor to drink except for what was in the vessel. So, Muhammad# put his hand in the vessel, and the water started gushing out between his fingers. So, they drank and made ablution. They were one thousand five hundred companions.

There were also many other miracles that were performed by him or which happened to him.

Righteousness does not mean for you to turn your faces towards the East and West, but righteousness means one should believe in God (Alone), the Last Day, angels, the Book and prophets; and no matter how he loves it, to give his wealth away to near relatives, orphans, the needy, the wayfarer and beggars, and towards freeing captives; and to keep up prayer and pay the welfare tax; and those who keep their word whenever they promise anything; and are patient under suffering and hardship and in time of peril (stress). Those are the ones who act loyal and perform their duty.

@ all of you.

May Allah Bless you all for all the edifying comments. What brilliant comments have we seen. I was absolutely overwhelmed by some of those beautiful comments that had such wonderful messages in them. How I loved the boy with the basket :-). Masha Allah. May Allah Bless all of them.

What you are doing is struggling in the way of Allah. Out there somebody somewhere reading your message might be moved to try and follow Allah's Dein. And by Allah's Grace it could be that you are the cause of leading someone to the light of Islam.

Life is short. Already yesterday has passed. Today is on the verge of going and tomorrow might just not dawn. Allah has been so wonderful to us. When we were weak, He strengthened us. When we were hungry and thirsty He satiated us. He Gave us every thing that we had, have and will have. Surely the wise person would take note of the ticking clock.

He has indeed showered us with every possible "neumath". Which of his neumath would you deny? Sisters and Brothers, lets us unite, let us work to help each other to remember Allah and His Commands.

Let us strive not to be counted amongst those who are ungrateful. Let us strive to kick our Nafs into oblivion. Towards this end no better weapon is available than the great "hadiya" that Allah swt presented to His slaves through His Last Prophet - Pbuh. That is our 5 prayers. This is the most precious Gift that we could ever receive. What sort of person would reject a Gift. Which fool would not take care of the most precious of Gifts?

Lets all strive to keep them and help each other to keep them. Not just a set of prescribed motions, but in the true spirit of remembrance, glorification, longing and obediance to Allah swt. In the spirit that makes our prayers a wonderfully pure clensing river of our dirt. Dirt not only sticking to the outside but dirt that sullies that piece of us called our heart.

The Prophet and His Companions sacrificed everything to get the message across to us and our childrens children until judgement day. Lets Praise allah for those sacrifices and For Allah's sake lets make ourselves worthy of that message.

Indeed tears were shed, Blood was shed. Fathers, mothers, children were ignored or all together as one force they worked to spread Allah's Deen. Today the message by Allah's Grace is in YOUR HANDS. What will you do now to spread it further? Or would you let that beautiful fine thread that you hold break with you? What? Are YOU GOING TO DO THAT?

Desolation! It cannot be! How could it be! After all that we have? Nay! We will Insha Allah rise to the Challenge. We will fight day and night our Nafs. Indeed Allah has nade it clear. We need to cmake the step to Change according to that which He has ordained. Surely Allah would then change us.

Do not despair. Allah is not far. He is closer to us than our neck veins. He loves us more than we can ever imagine. We need to make that step towards Allah. Allah in His qudsi Hadis says He would respond in multiples. So sisters and brothers. Take heart. Help is at hand. Close your eyes and say it. say it that which you have repeated perhaps a million times. Make it a million and 1 time.... I bear witness that there is no Deity but Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is His Messenger. Open your eyes! Its another begining! Its day 1!

Lets all together grab hold of the Rope that Allah threw to us, to save ourselves from certain despair. The Quran!

What a merciful Lord! Indeed He is The living! The All Merciful.

Peace!

If I say we have a single problem everyone will laugh at me. Yet, believe me there is a single problem is Maldives. The other problems like gang fights, drugs, suicides and the list goes.. are not merely problems. They simply is a result of a problem. The consequence of a never to be done mistake.
The problem in our society is that we don't teach our kids values. This is something I have said repeatedly while I comment blogs. That is because I understand that its a root of these problems. Today in our society, as a boy or girl who have finished O Level or A Level, what are their ambitions. I bet more than 75% will say nothing.
If then, why do we expect a dingy without a destination not to crush to the reef and damage. Its inevitable. We want to solve these problems in our society? A pain killer wont do, treat the wounded area too.

Head -on- Nails said...

I think Alif Laam Gaf has hit his head on the nail.

Problem is – Children ……..? Like chicken this is a debate about which came first the egg or the chicken. Is it not that the problem lies in grown ups? Then, this rubbing off onto children.

I have been thinking. The more I think I feel certain that the problem of our little nation lies in the horrific degeneration of the Maldivian adult. Naturally this would rub onto children. This is the problem.

What are the problems of this “MALDIVIAN ADULT” is one question. Another question is - What gave rise to these problems in the Maldivian adult?

If we need to sort things out, if we want solutions to the problems then, we need to address these questions. The list of the problems grows and we keep on HITTING OUR HEARDS ON NAILS.

Its no laughing matter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When your heart is dark as iron,
steadily polish yourself
that the heart may become a mirror,

Although iron is dark and dismal,
polishing clears the darkness away.

-Rumi, "Mathnawi",

Dhikr polishes the heart and is the source of the Divine breath that revives the dead spirits by filling them with the Blessings of Allah, decorating them with His Attributess, and bringing them from a state of heedlessness to the state of complete wakefulness. If we keep busy with Dhikrullah, happiness and peace will be granted to us. Dhikr is the key to happiness, the key to joy, and the key to Divine Love.

The Repentance of a Wali

Here is a tale of a child raised by his widowed mother in the time of the great Hasan al-Basri. She was a pious, devout Muslim who would regularly attend Imam Hasan’s Quran dars. She valiantly tried to raise her son on the correct path, but unfortunately when he reached the age of adulthood, he gained control of his inheritance and fell in with the wrong crowd.

With seemingly limitless funds at his disposal, he sinned his youth away.

And all throughout, his mother, a devout servant of Allah (swt), would constantly implore him to return to the right path. But he constantly refused, choosing instead to follow his nafsi whims and desires. Many times she brought him to Hasan al-Basri, who would calmly and politely admonish him, but to no avail. Even the words of the great Imam could not bring about the desired affect.

Years passed and Imam Hasan grew to tire of his wayward shenanigans and resolved that maybe Allah (swt) had simply not written for the boy to be guided. Yet, the mother remained steadfast, as only a mother could, in her wishes to reform her one and only child. Every morning, when he would return from his nights of mischief, she would call on him to make amends with his Creator and return to the path of righteousness.

As he got older and due to the effect of his foolhardy ways, sickness befell him and he became bedridden. Having squandered his wealth, seeing the weakness of his once sturdy body, and with death lingering around the corner, only then did he realize the error of his ways.

His unrelenting mother was by his bed, reminding him that it was never too late to repent. Even though his worldly life was wasted, he still had the chance to salvage his afterlife with sincere atonement, she repeated to him.

Sensing his mortality, his heart finally softened and he responded with a query, “After a life of sin, I don't know how to repent. Can we go to Imam Hasan?”

Sensing a bit of hope, she excitedly replied, “My dear son, you are too sick to walk and I am too old to carry you, but I will rush and beckon him to come here.”

When she reached him and requested his company with her son, he remembered the countless failed efforts and quickly wrote him off, “My dear sister, I have the Quran lesson for which I must prepare. Over a thousand students will come and I owe it to them to properly present my lesson. Besides, your son has consistently ignored my advise, rejected any efforts to reform and basically rejected the message of Islam so many times that I fear he is beyond assistance.

“Should I not spend my time for those who are coming to seek the knowledge, who have shown a keen interest, who are trying to please their Lord? I’m sorry but at this time, I really cannot make it.”

Dejectedly, she quietly whispered to him, “Then at least when the angel of death visits him, can you come to our home and lead the Janaza prayer over him?"

He sharply rebuked her, "Throughout his entire life, I have never seen your son pray a single prayer, fast a single day, attend a single Juma’a. I fear that he has left the ranks of the Muslim and thus, I am sad to say that praying over him would not be permitted."

With a broken heart, she returned home to inform her dying son of the tragic response by Hasan al-Basri. Upon hearing that even the great Imam Hasan refused to pray the Janaza over him, he burst into tears and made his dying wishes, "Oh my mother, I have lived a life of shameless sin and indulgence. I have wronged everyone that I have known. I have disappointed you and I have disappointed my Lord. So please, when I die please do not bury me in the company of Muslims, for I fear that they will be undeservedly disturbed by my cries of pain and misery."

And with his weeping mother by his bedside, he continued, "And before you bury me, please take my corpse, tie it to the wild dogs on the street, and let it be dragged through the streets where my final fate in this life will match my eternal fate in the hereafter."

With that he breathed his last breath.

And at that same moment, a knock came on the door. Startled, the grieving mother got up to answer it and found Hasan al-Basri standing there. He explained, "As I was preparing my lesson, I fell asleep and it was then that I heard a voice say ‘Oh Hasan, what kind of wali are you of Mine, that you have refused to pray the Janaza over another wali of Mine?’"

Dear Brothers & Sisters,

Ever since I read the piece written by Jeremiah about that sad Iran MP's book in this blog, I have been trying to learn about him. By Allahs Grace I have been able to locate the story of his conversion which I share with you.

Its an amazing story. Please derive benefit by Allah's Grace from a modern day story. Its long but worth the read. You would be fascinated how Allah's decree unfolds. Please also pray for brother Jeremiah. So over to Jeremiah D. McAuliffe, Jr., Ph.D......

Salaams,

Well, here is my story

Bism Allah, Al-Rahmen, Al-Raheem.....

I was raised Catholic and went to a Catholic grade school and high school-- in the U.S. grade school is roughly age 5-14 lasting 8 years and high school is roughly age 14-18 lasting 4 years. Many then go on to 4 years of college. I am of Irish-American ethnicity and from an upper middle class economic background.

I was always interested in religion, as well as things like psychology, and was reading rather broadly in the subjects even in late grade school. I often prayed the rosary and asked for faith, because that is what the Catholic nuns said one should pray for: faith.

At the same time, as I grew, I was rather wild: the whole American "sex, drugs, rock 'n roll" scene, as the saying goes. What can I say? I like to party! Nothing too outrageous for a young American, but wild just the same.

Anyway, in college I studied philosophy and focused on areas such as philosophy of religion and existentialism. I also studied a lot in Christianity as well as Buddhism and other religions, and psychology. (My background in psychology is strong enough such that I have done hospital-based clinical work.)

I very strongly considered being a priest or a monk. I would visit a particular monastery once in a while and have twice begun the entrance procedure into a seminary for the priesthood. (Indeed I was in this process when I accepted Islam. Isn't that ironic?)

So, after college I wasn't quite sure what to do: continue school, but wasn't sure if I wanted philosophy, theology or psychology. I ended up going to Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania which is in the Mideastern United States. Very pretty-- hills and rivers and forests. I studied what is called Formative Spirituality-- which you can read about at my web site. Essentially, it attempts to look at human spirituality as a natural human function-- prior to any theological or specifically religious discussion of it. I have a Master of Arts degree (M.A.) and a Doctor of Philosophy degree (Ph.D.) in this subject. These are among the highest academic degrees in the U.S. educational system. (In college you get a Bachelor's degree-- B.A.)

So, that is my background.

I was religious as a child and read the Bible, which often Catholics do not actually do-- relying on the priest for the interpretation and understanding. In college I practiced yoga and Buddhist/Hindu styles of meditation for about two or three years. Near the end of my first year in college I made a very conscious and ritualized type of personal vow to "go all the way" with religion. To reach enlightenment. To find God. I promised myself I would not stop.

I did not practice Catholicism at that time, but later did renew my practice of it.

However, as I studied various theologies, traditions, and other general religious studies I began to have major, major problems with Christian thought. For instance, it seemed clear to me that Prophet Jesus (God love him!), as a good Jew, would never have claimed divinity for himself. I concluded he did not claim to be God and that the Gospel accounts contained much more theology than biographical history. But I believed that through Jesus' life and personality God did indeed reveal His Will...... and that Jesus is Christ. (As Muslim, I still do believe that, of course.)

But this was problematic. I didn't really fit anywhere! And actually, it was rough to know what to believe, or even if any of it was true. I had many, many years of really fighting for just a naked faith in God. Years of praying at night: "If You are there give it to me. You said ask and you shall receive. Well, I'm asking. You said knock and the door will be opened. Well, I'm knocking. You promised guidance to those who ask for it. I'm asking for it."

And later I prayed like this: "I am sending this prayer out to the One True God, the God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses and Jesus. If You are there guide me, make me Yours..." and stuff like that. I specifically used this kind of a phrase naming these people for a good length of time.

During all this I consciously chose faith in God. This was pure naked faith-- not really having reasons to believe, but choosing to do so anyway. I did this because the saints in the Catholic tradition said to do so. They would say that often God seems far away or non-existent-- so keep the faith! Trust God even though you don't see Him at all. So, that is what I did.

I remember one time with particular clarity. I was standing in the hall between my living room and bedroom-- it all really hit me: I had no reason to believe in God. None at all. But I remembered all I had read and said to myself: "I say 'yes' to God in spite of the fact I have no reason to believe in God. I choose to say 'yes' and have faith that it is all true."

I was not really practicing Catholicism. (The last time I began application to the seminary it was because I was thinking where else could I go? It wasn't a perfect fit, but it would be the best fit.)

When it came time to write my dissertation for the Ph.D. I had to include a section about a religious tradition that was not my own-- i.e. something other than Christianity. I chose Islam. Believe it or not, it was the one religious tradition I knew nothing about! This struck me as somewhat odd. But I noticed I did indeed have a prejudice against it. I felt somewhat repulsed by it, actually. (Stuff left over from the Crusades just "gets into" Euro-Americans, I think.) And plus it couldn't possibly be true-- how could there be revelation after "The Jesus Event"? It had to be just another guy who felt "inspired by God" and really effected the people around him. No big deal.

It was difficult finding decent books on Islam. I had to get most by mail-order. There was an Islamic Center here so I began to go there and learn some things. (I finally learned what happened to Cat Stevens! (laughing) I had a bunch of his recordings but never knew why he disappeared from the scene.)

The people at the Islamic Center were very nice. Not really what I expected. No one put the slightest pressure on me to convert. It was nothing like being around born-again or evangelical Christians, which was what I half expected. I mean, aren't all Muslims supposed to be a bit on the crazy-fanatical side? Well, they weren't like that at all. They simply presented the information and answered my questions. No one called me or bothered me or anything like that. It was rather refreshing, I must say.

I repeat: there was nothing even resembling pressure to convert. Just a warm openness and a friendliness not often encountered in the States. One guy did try to get me to say the words, but everyone else jumped on him immediately and told him to be quiet. (And of course, I would never make a ritual declaration like that unless I thought it was true.)

This went on for a few years. I was reading a lot ABOUT Islam, but did not read the Qur'an. Slowly, my prejudices and repulsion faded away as I learned the true stories about Muhammad (God love him!), as well as Muslim history, beliefs and theology.

Then I stopped for a few years as I wasn't going to finish my dissertation. (It was resumed after I accepted Islam.)

A few years pass. I read things about Islam here and there.

At the behest of a good friend (non-Muslim) I read "The Autobiography of Malcolm X." After reading this I had a very strong urge to go and get and read the actual Qur'an. I called around to some bookstores and ran out and got the translation by Dawood (the one in the proper order).

I will never forget that day. Ever. I can still see it happening. Little did I know what I was in for-- that my life and total world-view would be changed-- that I myself would be changed.

I read the whole thing through in one sitting. I don't think I even changed position.

Right from the start it grabbed me. The very beginning-- called Al-Fatiha-- is a prayer. I immediately liked it as a prayer. It was, in essence, what I already prayed: You are God the Creator. Guide me, make me into one of those You love. I certainly couldn't argue with those sentiments! (laughing)

Then, in the beginning of the second chapter, it gave the description of who this book was addressed to: people who believe in God, establish prayer, give in charity, believe messengers were sent to us, and that we will return to God-- well, that was me-- and that this book was not to be doubted-- that it was truly and sincerely from God to these people-- like me-- precisely to guide them-- which was what I had wanted for years.

So right off, it was speaking directly to me as an individual.

Right off, it wasn't just some ancient 1400 year old text.

It really grabbed me and did not, would not, let go.

As I read a thought began to form and then started going through my head over and over and over: "Oh my God! This is from God!" It was like being slammed in the head with a brick or a hard plank of wood. I was stunned. It was real. Not the "inspired writing" of the Bible. It was direct revelation--- it really was the Word of God. Literally. Oh my God! This really IS from God!

Well, needless to say, I was floored. I knew there was something very extraordinary here. Quite amazing. Something was happening.

Imagine how bizarre it would be to really see a UFO. How unusual and fantastic something like that would be. Or what if someone just started to truly levitate and fly around right in front of you? Or what if you really truly did see a miracle? Your view of the world would necessarily change after such a non-ordinary experience.

What was happening to me as I read the Qur'an was beyond that.

Way beyond that.

So much of what I was reading in the Qur'an was stuff I was already thinking due to my academic studies in religion. The Qur'an not only confirmed things I was already thinking, but completed thoughts and ideas I was only vaguely aware of-- like things I was "half-thinking" if that makes any sense-- and then it also opened up to me an entire new universe of meaning and possibility. Suddenly, it was as if I was standing in a whole new vista-- like the open plain of a whole new world stretched out before me. Quite stunning and amazing.

There was nothing that gave me pause-- I kept saying "yes" to all that I read. One thing pulled me up short and that was that Jesus did not die on the cross. But by that time, the evidence was so overwhelming to my heart, my soul and my mind that this Book was indeed EXACTLY what it claimed to be that I had no trouble accepting this as the truth from God Himself.

And none of this is the slightest exaggeration whatsoever. I am not sugar-coating or embellishing my story to make it more attractive, or pious sounding, or dramatic, or whatever. I am telling the truth.

(I was especially struck by how contemporary the Qur'an is-- remember my academic background. Everything about it is just absolutely brilliant! I don't know why Muslims are so afraid of contemporary philosophy, psychology, or textual criticism. There is nothing to fear. The Qur'an is very "today." Actually, it is very "tomorrow." (laughing))

Two weeks later I declared in public that I bear witness there is no god but God and I bear witness that Muhammad is a messenger from God.

I was always able to say the first part of that. Note the two week wait. I was nervous-- was I really going to get involved with these people? This was not my cultural background, to say the least. White Americans do not become Muslim, do they? I remember standing at the masjid during this period watching them pray salat. Indeed, a news camera was there filming for a story which was then shown on the local news. It showed everyone praying salat, except for that one guy standing in the back-- and in a bright red shirt no less. C'est moi!

I thought: "Who am I kidding? I really do think that Muhammad was a messenger from God." So, that was that. I would have been dishonest with myself if I did not declare what I now thought to be true, and I thus entered the Muslim ummah.

This was during Ramadan/April 1992 CE. The first time I ever met a Muslim was in Turkey during Ramadan when I was around 20 years old. (I am almost 40 now.)

So, all those years of prayer for guidance were answered. For real. Even today, five-six years after these events I am still amazed by it all-- not only that I'm Muslim (who would have ever thought that?)-- but all those prayers really were answered by means of my encounter with the Qur'an in light of the sunnah of Muhammad.

Islam is truly the best-- and I say this coming from a background of formal study in religious issues. I am rarely at a loss for words, but I am when it comes to describing how I feel and think about Islam, the Qur'an and the sunnah of our beloved Rasool Allah, may God love him greatly. It is simply astounding. Beautiful like a work of art. Dynamic and vibrant. Brilliant in how it all unfolded. Mature-- no magic, no superstition. Excellent! What can be said but alhamduli 'Llah-- Glory to God in the Highest? Nothing! Nothing else can be said! Alhamduli 'Llah!

Dear Fools,

I saw you yesterday as you began your daily chores. You awoke without stopping to pray. As a matter of fact, you didn't even bless your meals, or pray before going to bed last night. You are so unthankful, I like that about you. I cannot tell you how glad I am that you have not changed your way of living, Fool, you are mine.

Remember, you and I have been going steady for years, and I still don't love you yet. As a matter of fact, I hate you, because I hate God. I am only using you to get even with God. He kicked me out of heaven, and I'm going to use you as long as possible to pay him back. You see, Fool, GOD LOVES YOU and HE has great plans in store for you. But you have yielded your life to me and I'm going to make your life a living hell. That way we'll be together twice. This will really hurt God. Thanks to you.

I'm really showing Him who's boss in your life. With all of the good times we've had..... We have been watching dirty movies, cursing people, out partying, stealing, lying, being hypocritical, indulging in fornication, overeating, telling dirty jokes, gossiping, back stabbing people, disrespecting adults and those in leadership position, NO respect for the mosque, bad attitudes: SURELY you don't want to give all this up.

Come on, Fool, let's burn together forever. I've got some hot plans for us. This is just a letter of appreciation from me to you. I'd like to say "Thanks!" for letting me use you for most of your foolish life. You are so gullible, I laugh at you. When you are tempted to sin, you give in HA HA HA, you make me sick. Sin is beginning to take its toll on your life. You look 20 years older, I need new blood. So go ahead and teach some children how to sin.

All you have to do is smoke, drink alcoholic beverages, cheat, gamble, gossip, fornicate, and listen to and dance to the top 10 jams. Do all of this in the presence of children and they will do it too. Kids are like that. Well, Fool, I have to let you go for now. I'll be back in a couple of seconds to tempt you again. If you were smart, you would run somewhere, confess your sins, ask forgiveness from Him, live for God with what little bit of life that you have left. It's not my nature to warn anyone, but to be your age and still sinning, it's becoming a bit ridiculous. Don't get me wrong, I still hate you......

Unfaithfully Yours
Shaitaan

Once upon a time a very strong woodcutter asked for a job in a timber merchant, and he got it. The pay was really good and so were the work conditions. For that reason, the woodcutter was determined to do his best.

His boss gave him an axe and showed him the area where he was supposed to work. The first day, the woodcutter brought 18 trees.

"Congratulations," the boss said. "Go on that way!" Very motivated for the boss' words, the woodcutter try harder the next day,but he only could bring 15 trees. The third day he try even harder, but he only could bring 10 trees. Day after day he was bringing less and less trees.

"I must be losing my strength", the woodcutter thought. He went to the boss and apologized, saying that he could not understand what was going on.

"When was the last time you sharpened your axe?" the boss asked. "Sharpen? I had no time to sharpen my axe. I have been very busy trying to cut trees."

Our lives are like that. We sometimes get so busy that we don't take time to sharpen the axe." In today's world, it seems that everyone is busier than ever, but less happy than ever. Why is that? Could it be that we have forgotten how to stay sharp?

There's nothing wrong with activity and hard work. But God doesn't want us to get so busy that we neglect the truly important things in life, like taking time to pray, to read. We all need time to relax, to think and meditate, to learn and grow.

If we don't take time to sharpen the axe, we will become dull and lose our effectiveness. So start today. Think about the ways by which you could do your job more effectively and add a lot of value to it.

A hadith of the prophet Muhammad (PBUH) says:

A strong believer is better and is more lovable to Allah than a weak believer, and there is good in everyone, (but) cherish that which gives you benefit (in the Hereafter) and seek help from Allah and do not lose heart, and if anything (in the form of trouble) comes to you, don't say: If I had not done that, it would not have happened so and so, but say: Allah did that what He had ordained to do and your "if" opens the (gate) for Satan.

There are two kinds of abstention from the harams. First, to abstain from those sins which only violate the rights of Allahu ta'ala. Second, to abstain from those sins in which other people's and creatures' rights are also involved. The second kind is more important. Allahu ta'ala does not need anything, and He is very merciful. But human beings not only need a lot of things but are also very stingy and mean. Rasulullah "sall-Allahu 'alaihi wa sallam' said: "A person who has violated others' rights or who has encroached on others' property and chastity should pay the rights back and have himself forgiven before dying! For on that day gold and property will not have any value. On that day, his thawabs will be taken away until the rights have been paid, or, if he does not have any thawabs, the sufferer's will be loaded on him."

Ibni Abidin "rahmatullahi 'alaih', while explaining the book Durr-ul-mukhtar, says on the two hundred and ninety-fifth page of the chapter dealing with the subject of intending for namaz, "On the Day of Judgement, if the right-owner does not forgive his right, for a right of one dank, seven hundred prayers of namaz that have been performed in jamaat and accepted will be taken away and will be given to the right-owner." One dank is one-sixth of a dirham, about half a gram, of silver, which is worth about twenty-five kurush, about 0.17 cents, as of today.

One day, when Rasulullah asked the Sahaba, "Do you know who is called bankrupt?" they said, "The person without any money or property left." He stated, "Among my Ummat, a bankrupt is the person whose deed-book contains many thawabs of namaz, fasting and zakat on the day of last Judgement. But he has sworn at a person, slandered him and taken away his property. His thawabs will be divided and distributed to such right-owners. If his thawabs are finished before the rights are paid, the sins of the right-owners will be loaded upon him. Then he will be flung down into the fire of Hell."

From Sahl ibn Aa'd who said that Allâh's Messenger (salAllâhu 'alaihi wa'sallam) said:

"Jibreel came to me and said: O Muhammad! Live as you will for you must certainly die; love whom you will since you must certainly leave him; act as you will since you shall certainly be given due reward for it; know that the believers eminence is his standing in prayer during the night, and his honour is having sufficiency without dependency upon the people."

Funny how a Rf20 bill looks so big when you give it as sadaqa to a poor, but so small when you take it to the market.

Funny how long it takes to do Zikr for an hour, but how quickly a team plays 60 minutes of basketball.

Funny how long a couple of hours spent at the Mosque are, but how short they are when watching a movie.

Funny how we can't think of anything to say when we pray, but don't have difficulty thinking of things to talk about to a friend.

Funny how we get thrilled when a baseball game goes into extra innings, but we complain when a "Tarahvi" during Ramadhan is longer than the regular time.

Funny how hard it is to read a Para in the Quran, but how easy it is to read 100 pages of a best selling novel.

Funny how hard it is for people learn a simple Preaching well enough to tell others, but how simple it is for the same people to understand and repeat gossip.

Funny how we believe what the newspaper says, but question what the Quran says.

Funny how you can send a thousand 'jokes' through e-mail and they spread like wildfire, but when you start sending messages regarding Allah, people think twice about sharing.

FUNNY, ISN'T IT?

Sahih Bukhari Volume 1, Book 2, Number 47:
Narrated Abu Huraira:

One day while the Prophet was sitting in the company of some people, (The angel) Gabriel came and asked, "What is faith?" Allah's Apostle replied, 'Faith is to believe in Allah, His angels, (the) meeting with Him, His Apostles, and to believe in Resurrection." Then he further asked, "What is Islam?" Allah's Apostle replied, "To worship Allah Alone and none else, to offer prayers perfectly to pay the compulsory charity (Zakat) and to observe fasts during the month of Ramadan." Then he further asked, "What is Ihsan (perfection)?" Allah's Apostle replied, "To worship Allah as if you see Him, and if you cannot achieve this state of devotion then you must consider that He is looking at you." Then he further asked, "When will the Hour be established?" Allah's Apostle replied, "The answerer has no better knowledge than the questioner. But I will inform you about its portents.

1. When a slave (lady) gives birth to her master.

2. When the shepherds of black camels start boasting and competing with others in the construction of higher buildings. And the Hour is one of five things which nobody knows except Allah.

The Prophet then recited: "Verily, with Allah (Alone) is the knowledge of the Hour--." (31. 34) Then that man (Gabriel) left and the Prophet asked his companions to call him back, but they could not see him. Then the Prophet said, "That was Gabriel who came to teach the people their religion." Abu 'Abdullah said: He (the Prophet) considered all that as a part of faith.

Maybe:
The black camels are popular in Arabian peninsula and are not uncommon in Saudia Arabia and UAE. Maybe the hadith refers to them as they are busy competing by building taller buildings and grand structures. Allah knows best.

@ Jasmine,

It’s kinda disappointing to see you actually close this site; we had many things to laugh about here.

If you set this site up in good faith you certainly are a beneficiary of immense good and good will. In a site such as yours it was unusual to see uncensored comments and it impressed me. It is possible many might agree with me.

Having followed this site it became clear that you had no proper training in Islam and its presentation. Your arguments were often shallow, groping and lacked conviction. Understandably then, Hilmy and al targeted you and in many respects exposed you. All that is accademic and history.

What is disappointing is that you shut the site. If your intension was pure, if you sought the pleasure of only your God then it’s inconceivable that you proved a person without a backbone, to this extent.

Do you realize that you have given up sitting on your egg before it had even hatched? In evolutionary terms species went extinct for just such reasons. Tee Heeeeee

Typical!

"The one who guides to good gets the same reward as the one who performs it." [Muslim]

The Prophet (peace be upon him) also said, "Whoever calls to guidance will have a reward similar to the reward of the one who follows him, without the reward of either of them being lessened at all." [Muslim, Ahmad, Aboo Daawood, an-Nasaa'ee, at-Tirmidhee, Ibn Maajah]

The Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) has said: "Convey from me, even one verse." [al-Bukhaaree]

Conveying the message therefore does not require a high level of scholarship, it is in fact a responsibility of each and every Muslim, according to his or her ability.

Not conveying the message - hiding knowledge - is disobedience to Allah that causes Allah's curse to descend upon such people, which shows that such a sin leads to the Hellfire

"Verily, those who conceal the clear proofs, evidences and the guidance, which We have sent down, after We have made it clear for the people in the book, they are the ones cursed by Allah and cursed by the cursers." [al-Qur'aan, al-Baqara(2):159]

In the same connection, the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) has stated, "Whoever hides knowledge, Allah will brand him with the branding iron from the hellfire." [Ahmad]

Calling people to Allah also means completing our own worship, the reason for which we are created. It is one of the noblest acts that entails a high reward.

"And who is better in speech than he who invites to Allah and does righteous deeds, and says: 'I am one of the Muslims.'" [al-Qur'aan, Fussilat(41):33]

If you read Jasmines posts it goes beyond conveying the message. She cuts and pastes, commentator, expresses opinions and basically comes out a jack of all trades and master at none. If she cuts and pastes then stops at that its different. Further she publishes comments noxious to islam by others that basically offers a platform to Islam bashers. This goes beyond all reason. For each positive she creates the potential for great evil.

SHE IS EVIL.

Isnt this the case when anyone tries to convey the message of islam. Even the ulamas the sahabaas the prophets, the moment they talk about islam arent they bormbarded by such comments and questions. Will you say the same about these people.

May Allah give sister jasmine the courage to continue the beautiful work that she's doing. May Allah increase our knowledge and eeman. May Allah guide us onto his path. Amin
