Knowledge & Education - Elixir of Life.

Education is the Key to everything. Education is the Key to our Salvation. Is it any wonder then that Allah’s final revelation started with the words “READ!”? How can we forget that our beloved Prophet –Pbuh asked us to go even to China in search of Knowledge? [1]

Muslim Mothers & Fathers should understand this thoroughly. The success of their Children (In this world & the Next) depends on them answering Allah’s & the Prophet’s- Pbuh call to pursue Knowledge. Knowledge starts with the Koran & Hadis. Let us get a sound knowledge of these revelations by Allah. Lets teach our children well. Lets give our children the tools and the yardstick with which they can meet the world. [2]

Before we send our Children out in the pursuit of Knowledge to faraway lands let them learn Islam. With this Knowledge flows the Love of Allah -swt & love of His Prophet –Pbuh, love of his parents and love of his neighbor. With this Knowledge, when in a University in Cambridge, Oxford, Harvard, Sorbonne, Lumumba or Peking, our child Insha allah would be a Muslim and his/her life itself would be a “Da’wah” and he/she would realize that this was an opportunity that Allah had opened to him to spread Allah’s religion by the example of his/her life. [3]

Such a child Insha Allah would not return to us saying “Mom, I’m 16 or 21 and an adult so you my mother or father has nothing more to tell me”. He would not be hooked on a bottle, drugs, some Internet social networking platform or be the town’s most experienced licentious young man or woman. Is there anything as hilarious to see as Maldivians who try to imitate the Western people with their put-on accent and aping what they assume to be the cultural norms of that region? [4]

The many problems of Maldivian society today can be put to the failure of Maldivian parents to impart a sound knowledge base to their children. A sound Knowledge base implies & touches both the letter and spirit of the teachings of Islam. All too often, quite sadly, children learn by rote learning and there is a distinct disconnect between the letter & spirit of what they are learning. This inevitably leads to the aping of foreign experiences without the "inherent breaks” existent in those foreign societies, resulting in "moral mutants" easily identifiable in the Maldivian streets. [5]

Interestingly some Maldivians end up with the worst of both worlds. After spending 5-10 years in England or Australia some become ambassadors to licentious living, wittingly or unwittingly become the breaker of traditional family ties. They pose the greatest threat to the down-grading of the nuclear family and sadly end up producing cesspits or breeding grounds of the drug culture with its associated theft, violence, STD’s. Not surprisingly they take on themselves the task of fighting Islam because they know Islam stands in their way to lead a life as they pleased - eating, drinking, dressing and importing the sexual habits from far off lands. These "desires" are often coated with a coating of liberal idealism, so that the glitz and glamour surrounding a life living to fulfill ones own desires offers to many an inevitable downward slide to an egress of self destruction.. [6]

These liberal Guru’s willfuly ignore that some 1400 years ago Islam gave man the example of living life according to the rule of law, where both the rulers and ruled all lived subject to the same laws - where every man & woman, had self and property, as sacred & inviolable. Every individual was given rights recognized by law and also commensurate to obligations. In this Muslim society Muslims enjoy God-given opportunities to fully realize his/her potential without at any point of time forgetting that he/she had to be submitted to the Will of God. [7]

For the Muslim, Good is what Allah has allowed and Bad is what Allah has forbidden. In this Islamic society - whenever more than one person is involved the golden standard in decision making is by mutual consultation & duties of Islamic brotherhood pervade his/her Consciousness. [8]

What is truly amazing in the Islamic system is that frameworks are provided in the Koran & Hadis and the challenge for Muslims in different Generations is to lead their lives within the framework provided by Allah. Thus the Prophet –Pbuh discouraged his companion Omar – May Allah be pleased with him, to refer to the Bible for Guidance concerning life, because all that he could extract from the Bible in this regard was already in the Koran in an undisputed pristine crystal clear form. In this example is demonstrated the limits of the framework within which one has the liberty to act in an islamic context. [9]

Knowledge & Education thus is the elixir to all our problems. If we approach education donning the mantle of Thauheed, Insha Allah it would earn us “the here & hereafter”. The key to the wholesome development of future generations depends on the proper assimilation of this Knowledge. In this task, women with our psyche & temperament rightfully are at the forefront to take the leadership role in turning out God fearing, God loving and altruistic generations whose life aim is to serve his neighbor in answer to Allah’s call to love his/her neighbor. [10]

In preparation for this key role, together with her mate; women has obviously to by Allah's Grace acquire all forms of Knowledge especially knowledge of the Koran & Hadis. It is not sufficient from an Islamic perspective that one has a narrow, speciallised field of education, the ideal of the Western model. Fulfiling this need of Islamic youth for a comprehensive all embracing, "seeking of knowledge with Thauheed at the head" is the job that our most adept intelectuals and educationalists, should undertake so that Insha Allah the Islamic youth could once again rise to the challenges that changing circumstances pose from century to century - Just as the first Generation of Companions did and emerge victorious by Allah's leave. [11]

We cannot help but see the so-called secularists trying to take root in the Maldives. They seem to be at all levels of the Maldivian Society trying to get a toehold and the political arena is no exception. Their aim to start with is to banish Islam from ALL Collective life to a place reserved only at the level of the individual -- and then to destroy all Islamic values and Islamic ideals from our lives altogether at an opportune moment. The things that stand between them and their aims & goals are the Holy Koran & the Hadis of the prophet-Pbuh. This explains why no efforts are being spared in a lot of quarters to create in the minds of youth enmity towards the Koran & Hadis, specifically implying that rules set by Allah 1400 years ago in the Arabian dessert cannot be applicable in modern day life in states that are not Arabic. [12]

The Secularists preach this position having embraced the Western experience where the Westerners had blindly followed the saying “" Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." - with disastrous consequences: where millions of young people experienced the fruits of such a position in the form of a degrading life or infringements of their rights. Secularists in the Maldives erroneously attribute the so-called “advancement” of the Western world in science and technology to the liberating influence of banishing Allah from all forms of collective life. [13]

This is based on a selective view of the so-called “advancement”. Taking the case of the most developed nation on earth. Over 40 million people of them live with no health care, Every few minutes a woman is being raped, every few minutes somebody is being mugged, every few minutes someone is being murdered, every few minutes some incestual relationship is taking place, Over 50% of all murders are committed on women, every few minutes women are subjected to domestic violence. Over 75% of women state that sometime in their life they had experienced sexual harassment. This is yet not talking of drug problems and other such problems directly. These are some of the problems that go hand in hand with their chosen mode of life. [14]

My aim is not to beat the drums over some countries sad statistics. My point is that when we ape these countries we are opening ourselves to inherit the very same colossal social & moral problems that they face in the form of drugs, crimes – theft and murder, family break-ups, childhood pregnancies, promiscuity, sexually transmitted disease, sexual harassment, domestic violence, Paedophilia, unequal distribution of wealth, racism etc. [15]

The Western so called liberal life style perpetuated by a philosophy of production & consumption has without doubt an element of apparent “glitz”, “glamour” & "zest" to life; at the same time insiduously unfurling socio-economic and moral problems that keeps on adding up. Which Maldivian secularist dare to deny this by pointing to a country in the West which is without these glaring problems of sexual discrimination , sexual harassments, runaway drugs & related problems, major law and order problems, domestic violence, Paedophilia, teenage marriages, abortions and increasing divides between the haves and have-nots? In the interests of truthfulness SPEAK UP![16]

What the Secularists cannot come to grips with or comprehend is the fact that these social problems are not new problems of our times but age old problems that plagued the different societies down the ages as a direct consequence of rejecting Allah's laws. They fail to realize that these age old problems cannot be solved without turning to Allah & following Allah’s decree. Thus at the root of these problems lies the fact that man has abandoned God’s law and adamantly follows his/her desires. We the Muslim youth of today should encourage each other to turn back to Allah and learn about Allah swt & His prophet. In order to this we must seek Knowledge & Education.[17]

If we are to have any hope of addressing the multitude of problems that we face as a nation - at this time of history, we must first change ourselves to people who acquire knowledge of Allah as revealed in the Koran & Hadis . With this knowledge, Insha Allah would come love for Allah and an intense desire to lead our lives according to Allah’s law, in submission to Allah's Will. This would Insha Allah lead to justice at the level of the individual and the nation and ensure that there is equity among the people and most tellingly the family structure rescued from the state of free-fall experienced in the West and fast becoming a reality in the Maldives. For us to be successful, we must pray to to Allah and we must try to establish an overwhelming majority of Muslims who consciously want to lead their lives in love, justice, mutual respect, tolerance & comanionship according to Allah’s Law. [18]

These are the reasons that it makes perfect sense to seek after knowledge and education for all. As young mothers we should encourage the young, the most intelligent amongst our children to take up the challenges and study our source texts and learn to apply the texts to our age and time within the framework mandated by Allah. Isn’t this what the great scholars - Imams Abu Haniffa, Malik, Shafi, Hambali & Ghazali did in their time? [19]

All of them were oceans of knowledge in all fields of knowledge prevalent at their times and well known for their piety and taqwa manifested in long hours of prayer at night. What’s to be noted is that their education started in their families in the lap of their beloved mothers. The Islamic Ummah declined when fresh intelligent, young minds were not there to take on the batton of knowledge and mind-set that these "Knowledge heroes of Islam" tried to pass on. Once again the best brains and ardour born out of the Muslim Youth is needed to answer Allah's call to pursue Knowledge so that Peace, Harmony, love & tolerance may Insha Allah take root within the depths of our souls. Insha Allah this would happen, and lets all work towards it by Allah's Grace. [20]

Finally to the secularists coming in all colours and guises we say "examine the dictates of Islam and frame your questions!". [21]

Asking questions is an important part of acquiring knowledge, so frame the questions with respect to the sources of Islam. We also say to them not to be so shallow as to confuse Islam with practices prevalent in countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, India, Pakistan, Iran, Egypt, Maldives or Saudi Arabia - that is a well trodden route and now cliched by the enemies of Islam, and now quite boring and without substance. In all our discourses with the secularists the reproach that we have is that they confuse the above & just cannot coin relevant questions to Muslims addressing Islam as expounded in the Koran & Hadis. [22]

Time is ticking & certainly fast running out, and maybe the next knock on the door would be death itself; so in parting let me draw your minds to this lovely Hadis… [23]

“Narated Abu Hurairah – rad, that the Messenger of Allah – sal, said: When a man dies, his good works are ended, except in three cases: except through a continuing charity (ie., al-waqf,) or Knowledge from which one can benefit, or a good child through his prayers for his parents. _ Muslim. [24]

Dear bro/sis in Islam, lets reflect on the Koranic verse 63:9 [25]

063.009
O ye who believe! Let not your riches or your children divert you from the remembrance of Allah. If any act thus, the loss is their own.

May Allah Bless all Muslims. Please correct me where wrong and know that Always ALAH KNOWS BEST. [26]

Peace!

"Such a child Insha Allah would not return to us saying “Mom, I’m 16 or 21 and an adult so you my mother or father has nothing more to tell me”."

Such a child would be too busy with about two three wifes and his juniors and arranging for the next jihad, now wouldn't it?

"He would not be hooked on a bottle, drugs, some Internet social networking platform or be the town’s most experienced licentious young man or woman"
Exactly they would be obsessed with guns, Sharia-the-mutants, beards, children below 9yrs, kissing the rocks in mecca, drinking Zamzam.

" Is there anything as hilarious to see as Maldivians who try to imitate the Western people with their put-on accent and aping what they assume to be the cultural norms of that region?"

Isn't is hilarious to see Maldivians trying to imitate arab sheikhs. or kukum kasauty! Isn't that the hilarious thing. For god sake, we are living in Maldives, located right in the middle of equator and we live like we are some desert worms.

When a community has succumbed to a fever, it can not be calmed with words and proofs. Yet for all who read Qur’an and study its content, the facts are plain and ample.

An immediately striking example is the content of the Opening sura (Ol-Fateha). It is made up of seven verses called seven repetitions and is placed first in the Qur’an because of its great importance in Islamic prayer. A translation is given below:

“In the name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful!
Praise to God, the Lord of the Worlds, the Compassionate, the Merciful!
The master of Judgment Day!
You (alone) we worship and from You (alone) we seek help. Guide us to the straight path, the path of those on whom You have bestowed bounty, not of those with whom You are angry and who have gone astray!”.

These words can not be God’s words. From their content it is clear that they are the Prophet Mohammad’s words, because they consist of praise to God, homage to God, and supplication for God’s help. God himself would not say “praise to God, the Lord of the Worlds, the Compassionate, the Merciful, the Master of Judgment Day.”

Since the Surat ol-fateha can not consist of God’s words when its whole content is praise supplication to God, it must be deemed to consist of the Prophet Mohammad’s words and to be a prayer which he composed. For this reason Abdollah b. Masu’d, who was one of the scribes who wrote down the revelations and knew the Qur’an by heart and later became a respected transmitter of Hadiths, considered that the Surat ol-Fateha and also Suras 113 (ol-Falaq) and 114(on-Nas), both of which contain the words “I take refuge with the lord” are not part of Quran

A Muslim is not a Muslim simply because he’s born one. A Muslim is a Muslim because he is a follower of Islam, a submitter to the Will of Allah. We’re Muslim if we consciously and deliberately accept what has been taught by the Prophet Muhammad (S) and act accordingly. Otherwise we’re not true Muslims.

The first and most crucial obligation on us is to acquire knowledge and secondly to practice and preach this knowledge. No man becomes truly a Muslim without knowing the meaning of Islam, because he becomes a Muslim not through birth but through knowledge.

Unless we come to know the basic and necessary teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (S) how can we believe in him, have faith in him, act according to what he taught? It is impossible for us to be a Muslim, and at the same time live in a state of ignorance.

It is essential to understand that the greatest gift of Allah – for which we are so over whelmed with gratitude – depends primarily on knowledge from Allah. Without knowledge one can’t truly receive Allah’s gift of Islam. If our knowledge is little, then we will constantly run the risk of losing that magnificent gift, which we have received unless we remain vigilant in our fight against ignorance.

A person without knowledge is like someone walking along a track in complete darkness. Most likely his steps will wander aside and he easily can be deceived by shaytaan. This shows that our greatest danger lies in our ignorance of Islamic teachings and in our unawareness of what the Saint Coran teaches and what guidance has been given us by the Prophet (S).

But if we are blessed with the light of knowledge we will be able to see plainly the clear path of Islam at every step of our lives. We shall also be able to identify and avoid the dangerous paths of Kufr, Shirk and immorality, which may cross it. And, whenever a false guide meets us on the way, a few words with him will quickly establish that he is not a guide who should be followed.

On this knowledge depends whether our children and we are true Muslims and remain true Muslims. It is therefore not a trivial to be neglected.

We do not neglect doing whatever is essential to improve our trades and professions. Because we know that if we do neglect, we will starve to death and so lose the precious gift of life. Why then should we be negligent in acquiring that knowledge on which depends whether we become Muslims and remain Muslims? Does such negligence not entail the danger of losing an even more precious gift – our Iman? Is not Iman more precious than life itself, for on it depends our life in eternity – in Heaven or Hell?

Most of our time and labour is spent on things, which sustain our physical existence in this life. Why can we not spend even a tenth part of our time and energy on things, which are necessary to protect our Iman, which only can sustain us in the present life and in the life to come?

It is not necessary to study extensively to become a Muslim. It is within the reach of everyone of us and especially easy for children. We could at least spend about one hour out of twenty-four hours of the day and night in acquiring the knowledge of this Deen, the way of life, the Islam. The passport to salvation and success.

Every single one of us, young or old, man or woman, should at least acquire sufficient knowledge to enable ourselves to understand the essence of the teachings of the Saint Coran and try to discern the purpose for which it has been sent down. We should also be able to understand clearly the mission, which our beloved Prophet (S) came into this world to fulfil.

We should not neglect how to recognize the corrupt order and system, which the beloved Prophet (S) came to destroy. We should thus acquaint ourselves, too, with the way of life which Allah has ordained for us. No great amount of time is required to acquire this simple knowledge. If we truly value Iman, it cannot be too difficult to find one hour every day to devote for our Iman.

This is the clear road before us. Lets with love embark on this sure road. Lets make way to a better life for our little children in this world and the next. Lets all together pray to Allah swt.

To seek knowledge is a sacred duty, it is obligatory on every Muslim, male and female. The first word revealed of the Qur’an was "Iqra" READ! Seek knowledge! Educate yourselves! Be educated.

You got it right. Well done. Great minds think alike.

Surah Al-Zumr, ayah 9 reveals:
"Are those equal, those who know and those who do not know?"

Surah Al-Baqarah, ayah 269 reveals:
"Allah grants wisdom to whom He pleases and to whom wisdom is granted indeed he receives an overflowing benefit."

Where else can you read such edifying words but from Allah? Short! Succinct, Eddifying! Moral Boosting! Revealing! Wakes you up!

HOW BEAUTIFUL IS THE QUR’AN! It silences its enemies with the sheer beauty and inimitability of its sublime verses. Allah Akbar.

What some can learn here is certainly a bit of temperance and control of his tongue. Its understandable that they cannot and do not control their tongues. This is because they do not have Knowledge about the dangers of the tongue.

This need not be so. Please learn dear bro/sis to control your tongue. Let me share a few Hadis with you…. Maybe you would reform your questionable ways. :-)

1.Narrated by Abu Musa Transmitted by Sahih Bukhari…
Some people asked Allah's Apostle (Sal-allahu-aleihi-wassallam), "Whose Islam is the best? i.e. (Who is a very good Muslim)?" He replied, "One who avoids harming the Muslims with his tongue and hands."

2. Narrated byAslam Malik transmitted it in al-Muwatta.(Mishkat)…
One day when Umar went in to visit AbuBakr as-Siddiq and found him pulling his tongue, he said, "Stop! Allah forgive you!" AbuBakr replied to him, "This has brought me down to dangerous places."

3. Narrated by Abu Hurayrah Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah transmitted it. (Mishkat) … Allah's Messenger (Sal-allahu-aleihi-wassallam) said, "Do you know the thing which most commonly brings people into Paradise? It is fear of Allah and good character. Do you know what most commonly brings people into Hell? It is the two hollow things: the mouth and the private parts."

4. Narrated byAbuHurayrah Ahmad and Bayhaqi, in Shu'ab al-Iman, transmitted it. (Mishkat)… A man said, "Messenger of Allah (Sal-allahu-aleihi-wassallam), such and such a woman has a reputation for engaging to a great extent in prayer, fasting and almsgiving but she annoys her neighbours with her tongue." He replied, "She will go to Hell." He said, "Messenger of Allah (Sal-allahu-aleihi-wassallam), such and such a woman has a reputation for engaging to a small extent in fasting, almsgiving and prayer, but she gives pieces of curd as sadaqah and does not annoy her neighbours with her tongue." He replied, "She will go to Paradise."

@Shekham:

Where in the quran does it say this is an autobiography of Allah. You show me the verse in which it says that. You cant and no one can. Quran is a guidance, a reminder, a sign/proof, a mercy from Allah revealed to the humankind through prophet Mohammed (saw). This can be shown from multiple places in the quran. The opening surah of the Quran al-Fatihah (meaning:"opener") is the first complete surah revealed to prophet Muhammad(saw). It has seven verses that are repeated by every Muslim many times during the course of his or her daily prayers. Thus the surah is also called the As-Sab` Al-Mathani (Al-Hijr:87), that is “The Seven Oft-Repeated.” This surah also has many other names: Umm Al-Qur’an (the Essence of the Qur’an), Al-Asas (the Foundation), Ash-Shafiyah (the Healer), Al-Kafiyah (the Sufficient), and so on.

In Al-Bukhari it is mentioned that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said that Al-Fatihah was “the greatest surah in the Qur’an.

Surat Al-Fatihah is the introduction to the message of the Quran and a prayer that is being taught to us. The guidance that is sent down to us will definitely teach us the best prayers. Will teach us how to Glorify Allah, will teach us how to praise and be thankful to Allah. This surah is infact considered the most important prayer which muslims use in their daily prayers.

It is reported on the authority of Ubayy ibn Ka`b that the Prophet (saw) said, “Allah did not reveal in the Torah, nor Injil, the like of Umm Al-Qur’an, and these seven oft-repeated verses, and it is (the one about which Allah said), ‘It is divided between Me and My servant and for My servant whatever he asks." (At-Tirmidhi)

It is reported that Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger (saw) of Allah say, “Allah says, I have divided prayer between Myself and My servant into two halves, and My servant shall have what he has asked for. When the servant says: Al-hamdu lillahi rabbi l-alamin (3), Allah (mighty and sublime be He) says: My servant has praised Me. And when he says: Ar-rahmani r-rahim (4), Allah (mighty and sublime be He) says: My servant has extolled Me, and when he says: Maliki yawmi d-din (5), Allah says: My servant has glorified Me - and on one occasion He said: My servant has submitted to My power. And when he says: Iyyaka na budu wa iyyaka nasta in (6), He says: This is between Me and My servant, and My servant shall have what he has asked for. And when he says: Ihdina s-sirata l- mustaqim, siratal ladhina an amta alayhim ghayril-maghdubi alayhim wa la d-dallin (7), He says: This is for My servant, and My servant shall have what he has asked for.” (Muslim).

As an introduction to the Qur’an, Al-Fatihah contains all the basic principles that are given in detail in the Qur’an. It tells us that we are surrounded by Allah’s grace and favors. He is the Source of all love and mercy. We should be thankful to Him. Our life is not permanent. We will die one day and He will judge us. He alone is the Master of that Day and We must worship Him and Him alone. We must seek His help and He has all the power to give us whatever we need. It reminds us that Allah is the only One Who can really guide. It calls for righteous actions in this life. It speaks about life after death and the consequences of human action and behavior. It tells us that the true guidance comes through Allah’s prophets and messengers. They were the people who were truly guided, and they received Allah’s grace and mercy. Those who turned away from that path were those who went astray and they incurred the wrath of Allah and His punishment.

May Allah guide us all -Amin-

Those who quarrel in Allah’s verses without any authority having reached them. It is terribly hateful with Allah and with those who believe. That is how Allah stamps a seal on the entire heart of an arrogant tyrant. [Qur’an 40:35]

Those who do not bow down before truth out of pride, Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala sets a seal upon their hearts and they become totally unreceptive to the truth.

Enter the gates of Hell to live in it forever. So, how evil is the abode of the arrogant. [Qur’an 40:76]

The abode of the arrogant has been mentioned in this verse, may Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala save us all.

Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihe Wasallam once said:

O you people, Allah is good. He only accepts what is good. Allah has issued to the believers the same command that He gave to the Messengers, for He said:

O you Messengers, eat of the good things and do right. I am indeed aware of what you do. (23:51)

Allah also says:

O you who truly believe! Eat of the good things with which we have provided you. (2:172)

The Prophet mentions a man who undertakes a very long journey. He describes him as unkempt and covered in dust. He stretches his hands toward the sky crying ‘O my Lord! O my Lord!’ but his source of food, drink and clothing is unlawful and he sustains himself unlawfully, so how can he expect a response to his appeal? (Muslim / at-Tirmidhi)

If you are in doubt concerning that which We have sent down onto Our servant (Muhammad), then produce a chapter of the like thereof, and call your witnesses, supporters, who are apart from God, if you are truthful. (2:23)

Will they not then ponder on the Quran? If it had been from other than God they would have found therein much contradiction and incongruity (4:82)

1400years and these 2 verses still stand true, can you say the same about the bible?

Riyad us-Saliheen of Imam al-Nawawi (May Allah Have Mercy Upon Him)
Chapter 254- The Chapter on the Prohibition of Backbiting and the Command to Safeguard the Tongue.

Allah Ta'ala says: '...and do not backbite one another. Does one of you like that he eats the flesh of his dead brother? You would abhor it. And fear Allah. Surely Allah is the Most-Relenting, Very-Merciful.' [Al-Hujuraat- 12]

And Allah Ta'ala says: '...and do not follow a thing about which you have no knowledge. Surely, the ear, the eye and the heart- each one of them shall be interrogated about.' [Al-Israa'- 36]

And Allah Ta'ala says: 'Not a single word is uttered by one but there is a watcher near him, ready (to record).' [Qaaf- 18]

It is of utmost importance that every person guards his tongue from all speech unless there is genuine good in it.

When something is merely permissible [i.e. not of benefit, nor is it a sin], the sunnah is to avoid that speech, for many a time, permissible speech leads to unlawful and disliked utterings.

So they ask me where in Quran its mentioned, where is the Hadith, where its mentioned.
See, thats the problem. Im using my commonsense and mind. You lot wants eveything to be told, by the lord or his apostle.
Quran, along with all the other holy scriptures that exists, contains mostly 80% with direct meaning, and rest imbiguous, left for interpretation using human mind. For example, tell me One verse in Quran which asks Women to wear veil? it does not, but the schollars (human) interpreted it so that they(sleazy schollars) do not have to masturbate day and night (losers).

One more thing:
As anon:12:36 mentioned:
Surah Al-Baqarah, ayah 269 reveals:
"Allah grants wisdom to whom He pleases and to whom wisdom is granted indeed he receives an overflowing benefit."
So If allah wishes he astray me. This is said in many times through out Quran Majeed. HE choses which of humans, he wishes to be guided to right path, but then he burn the same helpless humans (those Allah chose not to give wisdome, astray them) in hell forever! Don't you think it's utter nonsense.

@ Shekham

Did ye realize that wot ever we think or do can be either of the following:-
+according to what we think for ourselves – depending our experiences.
+according to what somebody else thinks – depending on their knowledge.

There is no other way.

The 2nd. Above can be anybody.. father, mother, friend, foe, Allah, Devil. Talking about probability the chances of us being right 100% time, all the time is zero. This is why it makes sense to consider option 2 – in the interests of TRUTH.

The only source that can be 100% right all the time is Allah. This is why Believers by choice turn to Allah. They believe that this is better for them, because if they follow their whims (option 1) the risk of going against what Allah wants is too high.

Regarding surat ul Fathiha that you spoke of. Certainly here is Allah teaching man what to say, in the most appropiate way. Naturally this being the case in the prayer it is as if man is speaking. After all that is the point. Allah in His Majesty teaching man to address Allah in the most appropiate way. This is literary usage of language to fulfil the task at hand.

Muhammad the Prophet of Allah – Pbuh was known as Al Amin. The trustworthy. Never had he ever lied. He tells us that the Qur’an is a revelation from The Creator. On what basis does one reject such testimony?

“A Muslim is not a Muslim simply because he’s born one. A Muslim is a Muslim because he is a follower of Islam, a submitter to the Will of Allah. We’re Muslim if we consciously and deliberately accept what has been taught by the Prophet Muhammad (S) and act accordingly. Otherwise we’re not true Muslims.

Brother Yusuf, I agree. This is so true. We are for most part Muslims by birth. Our lives are such that we often do not go beyond this. We have so many opportunities to learn by TV, radio and the print media, but this has not caught the imagination of Maldivians. We need to form groups and together help each other to get down to basics. Your great post is great. We need more of this.

What causes this blindness of the heart? What is it that snatches away that priceless ability to be able to see and understand the truth?

One answer we find is in the Hadith recorded by Imam Abu Dawud, Imam Ahmad and others, that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: ‘Your love for something blinds and deafens.’

Masu’d, who was one of the scribes who wrote down the revelations and knew the Qur’an by heart and later became a respected transmitter of Hadiths, considered that the Surat ol-Fateha and also Suras 113 (ol-Falaq) and 114(on-Nas), both of which contain the words “I take refuge with the lord” are not part of Quran"

No shekham, dont try to escape the question, where is the source of this information? Why dont you just say, you made this up. There are answers to your other 2question but before that we need to be clear on your first question. Did you or did you not make it up? If not, show us the proof?

Dear Maldivian brothers and Sisters in Islam, You have the great joy of being born into Islam. You can’t imagine what a Blessing that is. Very often when you have something precious you do not realize the value of this. Some of us have come to Islam because Allah took pity on us and opened our hearts and eyes to His deen.

Many of us were in manifest error until Allah made some brother or sister to help open Allah’s door of Mercy to us. It was Allah’s Mercy. One such brother who saw the light of Islam was brother Yusuf Estees.

He had set out to convert into Christianity this simple Egyptian bro who his father was doing buissness with. However things worked out differently by Allah's Grace. This Egyptian brother was by Allah’s Grace the instrument by which Bro Yusuf Estees, His wife, His father & a Catholic priest all came to accept Islam and what a shining example of a Muslims brother Yusuf has become.

Brother Yusuf Estees set about learning Islam already at 50; so as to live his life accordiong to Allah’s will and then to communicate to people Allah’s message. Its my pleasure to introduce you to brother Yusuf’s site www.islamtomorrow.com.

It’s a superb site. You will by Allah’s Grace gain so much of love for Islam discovering his pages. From his site I came across “Arguments Establishing Authority Of Hadith In Islam”.

I found it moving and so much of information. Bookmark the page and discover things at your leisure. Then, if it interests you, explore the links.

May Allah Give us the strength to follow in the noble footsteps of the Messenger Of Allah – May allah’s peace and Blessings Be on him.

Argument Establishing Authority of Hadith in Islam_____________________________________________________________________________
After the Quran, the teachings of Muhammad, peace be upon him, are considered the authority for everything that the Muslims believes and does in order to fulfill their obligation to their Creator and Sustainer, Allah, The Most High.

The Quran gives the authority to this concept in a number of places. For example:Muslims are obliged to believe in the Quran and follow everything it it to the very best of their ability. So, this is an obligation of every Muslim, that they follow the teachings of Muhammad, peace be upon him.

From Al - Imran (Surah 3:31)31.

Say, "If you truly love Allah, then follow me (Muhammad, peace be upon him), so Allah will love you and forgive you of your sins. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

"Perform prayer and give the alms and obey the Messenger so that hopefully mercy will be shown to you. (24:56)

(Notice in the above ayah - there is mention only of obeying the prophet, peace be upon him. How much more proof than this would someone who loves Allah require to know they must know and follow the authentic hadeeth?)

Say, ‘Obey Allah and the Messenger.’ Then if they turn away, Allah does not love the kafirun. (3:32)

Obey Allah and the Messenger so that hopefully you will gain mercy. (3:132)

As for those who disobey Allah and His Messenger and overstep His limits, We will admit them into a Fire, remaining in it timelessly, for ever. They will have a humiliating punishment. (4:14)

More ayahs (verses) from Quran proving authentic ahadeeth must be accepted and followed [click]

There are a number of subjects regarding the authenticity of "hadith" (sayings or narrations from Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him). We present here a number of questions and answers of the most common today and certainly are in need of definitive answers.

I pray to Allah that He Allow me to share with you the results of the same search which I personally had to make to satisfy myself over 16 years ago. We did this work and then accumulated on our web site at:

So you do not say still if you agree with me or not. Those revelations are not from a god, its from a human.
I did not make it up dear! I do not understand how you want the proof. in which form. Hadith, qranic verse! Not everything is proved by Quran and backed by Hadith. By using your mind, can you tell me, if you agree to that or not?
This is history and observations. Persian philosopher Ali Dushti in his book "twenty three years" has given the references. dare to read.

@Shekham:

Shekam, I do disagree with what you have said, and no I dont want to stop there, and I'm convinced that there is no historical data(any) out there to prove your point.

And yes when muslims talk about proof in religious matter we do mean the Quran or the authenticated ahadith ;-).

Shekam, my guess about you in the first place was unfortunately right, non of these you write here are your own observations. You didn study into any of islamic sources. Just one anti-islamic book becomes your observation of islam and that is all you know. One more thing, when your quoting from a book (23yrs or any other book) do quote as it is, dont add your own words into it :-)You do know what I mean, dont you?

@ Shekam

It is always best when you do not have time to think out complex issues to just give what you read without mixing your own take of things. If you do this you are falling into the trap of enemies of Islam, and aiding their hidden agendas.

The issue that you raised in fact reffers to Ibn Masud's Codex then prevalent in Kufa. in fact it was issues like this that prompted another companion Hudaifa to bring to the notice of the Caliph Uthman the inherant dangers. What then followed was the first recorded exercise in quality-control undertaken in the annals of human literary history, in glaring transparency and before the watchful eyes of the Companions of the Prophet in Medina, under the leadership of the Prophets own scribe heading a commision of well known companions - all recognised experts on the Qur'an

Logic would dictate that such a quality controlled undertaking involving the whole unanimous population of Medina cannot be compared to a personal unverified unsubstantiated effort not subject to quality control.

I'm digressing. Back to issues...

THE VARIANT READINGS IN IBN MAS'UD'S CODEX.

One of the anomalies recorded in respect of Ibn Mas'ud's text is that it is said to have omitted the Suratul-Fatihah, the opening surah, and the mu'awwithatayni, the two short surahs with which the Qur'an ends (Surahs 113 and 114). The form of these surahs has some significance - the first is purely in the form of a prayer to Allah and the last two are "charm" surahs, being recommended incantations of refuge with Allah which Muslims should recite as protection against sinister forces and practices. One tradition states that Ubayy ibn Ka'b was at one time challenged with the suggestion that Ibn Mas'ud had made certain negative statements about these surahs and he replied that he had asked Muhammad about them and was informed that they were a part of the revelation of the Qur'an and should be recited as such (Sahih al-Bukhari, Vol. 6, p.472).

The possibility that Ibn Mas'ud may have denied that these three surahs were a part of the Qur'an vexed early Muslim historians. The well-known Iranian philosopher and historian Fakhruddin ar-Razi, who wrote a commentary on the Qur'an titled Mafatih al-Ghayb ("The Keys of the Unseen") and who lived in the sixth century of Islam (1149-1209 AD) gave some attention to this problem and sought to prove that the allegations were unfounded.

Imam Fakhruddin said that the reports in some of the ancient books that Ibn Mas'ud denied that Suratul-Fatiha and the Mu'awwithatayni are part of the Qur'an are embarrassing in their implications... But the Qadi Abu Bakr said "It is not soundly reported from him that they are not part of the Qur'an and there is no record of such a statement from him. He omitted them from his manuscript as he did not approve of their being written. This does not mean he denied they were part of the Qur'an. In his view the Sunnah was that nothing should be inscribed in the text (mushaf) unless so commanded by the Prophet (saw) ... and he had not heard that it had been so commanded". (as-Suyuti, Al-Itqan fii Ulum al-Qur'an, p.186).

Another Muslim historian, an-Nawawi, in his commentary on the Muhaththab said that the Fatihah and the two "charm" surahs were unanimously regarded by the Muslims as part of the Qur'an and that what had been said about Ibn Mas'ud was false and unjustified (as-Suyuti, Al-Itqan, p.187).

The famous dogmatic Muslim scholar Ibn Hazm likewise rejected the suggestion that Ibn Mas'ud had omitted these surahs from his codex:

Ibn Hazm said in the Muhalla, "This is a lie attributed to Ibn Mas'ud. Only the reading of Asim from Zirr is authentic and in that are both the Fatiha and Mu'awwithatayni". (as-Suyuti, Al-Itqan fii Ulum al-Qur'an, p.187).

The tone and language of this above article should give you a hint that this is the work of a person who is not a Muslim. Even so, by Allah's Grace the facts stand out. In my opinion this is INSPITE OF THESE ENEMIES OF ISLAM.

Allah is All Knowing, His WILL PREVAILS, and as stated below its His will to protect the Quran from all attacks - From front, From behind, From up, From down, From right & From left. Alhamdulillahi.

Last but not least. Allah knows everything. He has undertaken to protect the Qur'an. So the method of quality control undertaken 1400 years ago, proves to be above literary reproach even Now. Insha Allah it would remain so until end of time.

One of the Qur'an’s most important attributes is that it reached us in the very same form in which it was revealed to our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). In: [We have sent down the Reminder, and We will preserve it.] (Al-Hijr 15: 9), Allah promised to protect it.

The following verses explain how our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) tried to remember the revelations, and how Allah helped him do so:

[Do not move your tongue trying to hasten it. Its collection and recitation are Our affair. So when We recite it, follow its recitation. Then its explanation is Our concern.] (Al-Qiyamah 75: 16-19)

The Qur'an’s lack of any internal contradiction and discrepancy also shows that it is from Allah and is immune to change. The Qur'an is internally consistent and in full agreement with historical developments and established axiomatic scientific discoveries. This attribute is so certain and explicit that our Lord stated:

[Will they not ponder the Qur'an? If it had been from other than Allah, they would have found many inconsistencies in it.] (An-Nisaa’ 4: 82)

Qur'an is the Word of Allah, not of humanity. It is Allah’s revelation to Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and has remained unaltered since it was revealed.

Allah expresses this superior attribute as follows:
[If you have doubts about what We have sent down to Our servant, produce another surah equal to it, and call your witnesses, besides Allah, if you are telling the truth. If you do not do that – and you will not do it – then fear the Fire whose fuel is people and stones, made ready for the unbelievers. ] (Al-Baqarah 2: 23-24)

[Say: “If both humanity and jinn banded together to produce the like of this Qur'an, they could never produce anything like it, even if they backed each other up.” ] (Al-Israa’ 17: 88)

The Qur'an is complete.

The Qur'an is completed and what should be in it is in it, and what should not have been in it is not in it. Upon completion, the Qur'an was compiled and stored as it was meant to be, and has remained that was ever since.

5:3 This day have I perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion. But if any is forced by hunger, with no inclination to transgression, Allah is indeed Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful

57:77-80. That this is indeed a qur'an Most Honourable,
In Book well-guarded,
Which none shall touch but those who are clean:
A Revelation from the Lord of the Worlds.

85:21-22. Nay, this is a Glorious Qur'an,

How do one observe or research. Sadly you guys do the samething. you write whole lot from Quran and authenticated or fabricated Hadith. What difference is there? I read something and i guess i happen to agree with it.
Unlike you, i see the content, not the author. His references and explanation using logic was worth to consider. I don't need Quran's verses to confirm my thoughts.

@anon:February 22, 2009 5:52 AM
thanks for the info. But, what is the proof, its Allah (god)'s revelation. Just becox its mentioned in Quran does not prove anything. It is more likely, all the revelations were of Mohammad's inner self.
For instance, when he was dissatisfied with his companions entering his house and interacting his Wives, there were revelations sent from the Almighty abt that!. Some revelations came down to inform Mohammad of what his wives talk abt. I mean, how the creator of this universe be human like. He forgot abt the rest of the solar system, galaxies, billions of stars and parts of the earth, rest of the tribes in Arab and had time to reveale verses for Mohammad and his wifes private affairs.
Can you prove its god's words. oh i forgot, you can not even prove if there is GOD in the first place.

@anon February 22, 2009 9:09 AM
So there was no change made to Quran's texts? Its not god who is protecting the book. Its the blind followers, who are ready to kill if someone say anything contradictory. Moslems are made to believe strongly & blindly and with its hostile values, there is no other way. If the keepers of this book wants to change, yes why not, we can change tomorrow also, with far better text and poetry, but you see, we donot want, we know we don't want, we think we know we can not change because Mohammad was so cunning to put couple of words in the book that you keep hanging on. I actually applaude his eloquence and courage to rise from the poor to the most respected in the society. He was a very intelligent and good states man.

Imagine yourself entering the presence of a mighty emperor. You are overwhelmed with awe at his power, and with a sense of your own insignificance.

Your entire attention is absorbed by the emperor’s greatness, so you are utterly unaware of his physical presence and of the other people around him.

When you leave his presence, people ask you about the other people, about his physical appearance, and about your own experience of being in his presence.

But you are unable to answer.

This is a parable for losing the sense of self.

But do you agree the logic behind his claims. Do you get the content of it. Am not asking you to worship Ali for gooness sake. I don't take Quran, Al-bukhari & moslem as proof so instance. Why should it be? its all fables sweety!
Another example, today minivan news has this article:

The allegory is not necessary true, Hens can not talk. but do you get the morals of the story. I would agree if you said the story is fake cox hens can not talk, but if you are saying, you don't get the logics in it or morals in it because of that, then its same as wat you said above.

Isn't it interesting that you'd believe any crap that comes from an authenticated Hadith, even if it does not make sense. Is it called blind faith?
Now hear the syrath every ramadan right? no doubt you'd believe all the lords of bullshit in it.

Dear Brothers & Sisters in Islam,

This post has provoked a whole spectrum of comments from the profane to the sublime. I regret very much that I had to delete one or two comments as I found them inappropriate. Whilst as a Muslim I practice the belief that there is no compulsion in thoughts and views I do not want to be any part of a process that encourages acts that distresses people.

Having said that I firmly believe that the teachings of Islam is above any reproach and based on foundations that cannot be slighted by anybody’s pen. As such all questions relating to Islam is acceptable on this blog in whatever form it may come in. Insha Allah some Muslim brother or sister would do the research and post the answer. In this regard, it would be such an asset if some Islamic scholar would join this circle of ours and indicate to us where we err giving us his sources for his opinion.

A great disappointment to many of us is that we have been unable to engage the so-called secularists and freethinkers orbiting in the Maldivian blogosphere in any meaningful discussion. They seem to be incapable of expressing any coherent arguments to believers showing why believers should not follow Islam. As for the believers the reason why they feel their need to strive to implement Islam in their lives is clear – To avoid Hell fire. Pascal demonstrated why it’s prudent not to ignore such considerations.

This is no provocation on my part. Our aim is to simply demonstrate to the Maldivian Muslim youth JUST HOW FICKLE THEIR ARGUMENTS ARE, HOW BASELESS THEIR OBJECTIONS ARE, and HOW PURILE THEIR LANGUAGE AND METHODS ARE. In short the stated desire is to expose the moral bankruptcy of secularists and freethinkers. It’s thus clear why they shy away from meaningful engagement.

As I have oft repeated let us help each other to become better Muslims. In this task, every one of us can and must try to contribute. All of us have heard of some Hadis or Ayats that has moved us, so please share it. You might have come across something in life that brings into focus Islamic values, please share it. You might have read some thing that increases ones faith, please share it. The aim is to encourage one other to strive hard in the path of Allah. The aim is to increase our love for Allah, to enhance our Iman and as fruits of this path to love our neighbor. WE CAN INSHA ALLAH DO IT!

In parting I must say that I was much amused by the “Voice of Aussie”. No Muslim would dream of analogizing his brains to be a donkey. :-) It seems to me herein lies the problem of these friends of ours! :-)... Rather a Muslim would bear in mind that his brains is the high point of his being and that when he/she walks into a mosque, that its his brains that has lead him there and sing Allah’s Praises that he/she has been chosen to be of those who uses his brains at all times. Alhamdulillahi.

Much has been said about Suratul Fathiha. Here is an introduction to the surat from a great Islamic scholar.

Introduction of Surah Al-Fateha
by Syed Abul A'ala Maudoodi

Introduction of Surah No. 001 Al-Fateha (The Opener)

In the Name of Allâh, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Name
This Surah is named AL-FATIHAH because of its subject-matter. Fatihah is that which opens a subject or a book or any other thing. In other words, Al-Fatihah is a sort of preface.

Period of Revelation
It is one of the very earliest Revelations to the Holy Prophet. As a matter of fact, we learn from authentic Traditions that it was the first complete Surah which was revealed to Muhammed (Allah's peace be upon him). Before this, only a few miscellaneous verses were revealed which form parts of `ALAQ, MUZ-ZAMMIL, MUD-DATH-THIR, etc.

Theme
This Surah is in fact a prayer which Allah has taught to all those who want to make a study of His book. It has been placed at the very beginning of the book to teach this lesson to the reader: if you sincerely want to benefit from the Quran, you should offer this prayer to the Lord of the Universe.

This preface is meant to create a strong desire in the heart of the reader to seek guidance from the Lord of the Universe, Who alone can grant it. Thus AL-FATIHAH indirectly teaches that the best thing for a man is to pray for guidance to the straight path, to study the Quran with the mental attitude of a seeker- after-truth and to recognize the fact that the Lord of the Universe is the source of all knowledge. He should, therefore, begin the study of the Quran with a prayer to him for guidance.

From this theme, it becomes clear that the real relation between AL-FATIHAH and the Quran is not that of an introduction to a book but that of a prayer and its answer.

AL-FATIHAH is the prayer from the servant and the Quran is the answer from the Master to his prayer. The servant prays to Allah to show him guidance and the Master places the whole of the Quran before him in answer to his prayer, as if to say, "This is the Guidance you begged from Me."

Its sweet things popping from the heart. Your words reminded me of my small friend last night. I was given a lift by her ma. We were whizzing past, and the traffic light turned red. The city is always teeming full of urchins and beggars; that’s this sprawling even stinking city. My lil friend at the front seat was in a big search I cud see. The mother screeched, its green, green! My friend dived in now I saw was her ma’s purse. Huriedly she pulls the window down, and hands out a shining new 50 bill. Plonks of horn, the surprise on that man and the annoyed interjection of that mum all in a whirl. We whiz on! Mum with annoyance mutters… Do not get into my purse agin! Tomorrow your lunch money is less what you took. A smiling daughter smiles, ma! That’s ok & cool, you taught me to give to Allah’s needy servants. I learnt many lessons there. My friend just turned 14. Masha Allah! ISLAM …… at play.

Your explanation is very appealing, but it completely puts in to another "wish if it was like that" category when you read following verses:
In verse 21-28 of sura 53 (on-najm)
refering to pagan notion that the idols Lat, Ozza, and Manat were God's daughters and reproachfully asks arabs, "Do you have male (children) and does He (God) have female children?".
This can not be words of God, who would not ask himself if he has daughters?

Another verse is verse 42 of Sura 17 (ol-Esra): "Has your Lord favoured you with sons and chosen for Himself female (children) from among angels? Surely you are saying a monstrous thing". This question can only have been asked by the prophet, because if it was by GOd, then the words would have been " Have I favoured you with sons and chosen for Myself daughters?" Obviously God, for whom the sex of the children makes no difference, would not have asked such a question.

What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? (53:21)

Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! (53:22)

These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord!(53:23)

Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? (53:24)

How many-so-ever be the angels in the heavens, their intercession will avail nothing except after Allah has given leave for whom He pleases and that he is acceptable to Him.(53:26)

Those who believe not in the Hereafter, name the angels with female names. (53:27)

But they have no knowledge therein. They follow nothing but conjecture; and conjecture avails nothing against Truth.(53:28)

One's intellect has to be applied in the understanding of this Book. This is something that the Quran itself has commanded us to do at many occasions. For instance, in Al-Baqarah, Quran talks about spending in the way of Allah and how Satan allures man into spending elsewhere for this worldly life. And then in the middle of this discussion, Allah says,

وَمَا يَذَّكَّرُ إِلاَّ أُوْلُواْ الأَلْبَابِ

"But none will grasp the message except the men of intellect." (Quran 2:269)

And the discussion then continues on. Clearly, it needs to be appreciated that the Quran really does reason with arguments and if one’s mind is not applied in the study of this Book, then the benefit will be very limited. In general, the Quran has used reasoning and has cited arguments in support of its claims whenever it has urged man to accept a belief. It warns those who do not apply the faculty of their reasoning and become slaves to emotions like hate and prejudice.3 For example, consider the following where those who do not use their intellect in the study of the Book are addressed as deaf and dumb.

إِنَّ شَرَّ الدَّوَابَّ عِندَ اللّهِ الصُّمُّ الْبُكْمُ الَّذِينَ لاَ يَعْقِلُونَ

Surely the worst of animals in Allah's sight are the deaf, the dumb who do not use their brains. (Quran 8:22)

Quran also records the following words of those thrown into the Hell:

وَقَالُوا لَوْ كُنَّا نَسْمَعُ أَوْ نَعْقِلُ مَا كُنَّا فِي أَصْحَابِ السَّعِيرِ

They will say: "Had we but listened or used our intelligence, we would not (now) be among the Companions of the Blazing Fire!" (Quran 67:10)

What abt the abrogated verses in Quran?
Verse 100 of Sura 2 (ol-Baqara): "whenever we abrogate a verse or order that it be forgotten, We bring a better one or a similar one. DO not you know that God is capable of everything?"

It is precisely because God is capable of everything that He would not reveal a verse and then abrogate it. Since Omniscience and omnipotence are essential attributes of the Creator, He must be able to issue commands which do not need revision.
It seems there were hecklers those days to the Almighty.
A verse as a answer to this doubt is verses 103 and 104 of Sura 16 (On-Nahl): "when we have replaced a verse with (another)verse- and God knows well what He sends down-they say ' You are a mere fabricator'. But most of them have no knowledge. Say (to them), 'The Holy Ghost brought it down from your Lord, truly (so), in order to confirm the believers".

Extra ordinary claims require extra ordinary evidence. But it seems extraordinary excuses were created along the way.

SHAKIR: What! whenever they make a covenant, a party of them cast it aside? Nay, most of them do not believe.

@Anonymous February 25, 2009 10:21 PM:

Ok first of all the reference you gave is wrong, the verse your talking about is Baqara verse no.106, Let me give you 3 different translation of Suratul Baqara verse 100:

YUSUFALI: Is it not (the case) that every time they make a covenant, some party among them throw it aside?- Nay, Most of them are faithless.

PICKTHAL: Is it ever so that when they make a covenant a party of them set it aside? The truth is, most of them believe not.

SHAKIR: What! whenever they make a covenant, a party of them cast it aside? Nay, most of them do not believe.

Going back to the original verse which is verse No:106

"None of Our revelations do We abrogate or cause to be forgotten, but We substitute something better or similar: knowest thou not that Allah hath power over all things?"
(Al-Qur’an 2:106)

A reference to this is also made in chapter 16 verse 101(not 103 or 104) of Surah Nahl. The Arabic word mentioned is ayat which means ‘signs’ or ‘verses’ and which can also mean ‘revelations’. This verse of the Qur’an can be interpreted in two different ways:

(a)The revelations that are abrogated are those revelations that were revealed before the Qur’an, for example the Torah, the Zaboor and the Injeel.

Here Allah (swt) says that He does not cause the previous revelations to be forgotten but He substitutes them with something better or similar, indicating that the Torah, the Zaboor and the Injeel were substituted by the Qur’an.

(b)If we consider that the Arabic word ayat in the above verse refers to the verses of the Qur’an, and not previous revelations, then it indicates that none of the verses of the Qur’an are abrogated by Allah but substituted with something better or similar. This means that certain verses of the Qur’an, that were revealed earlier were substituted by verses that were revealed later. I agree with both the interpretations.

Many Muslims and non-Muslims misunderstand the second interpretation to mean that some of the earlier verses of the Qur’an were abrogated and no longer hold true for us today, as they have been replaced by the later verses of the Qur’an or the abrogating verses. But let us analyse:

Eg: Produce a recital like the Qur’an / 10 Surahs / 1 Surah:

Some pagan Arabs alleged that the Qur’an was forged by Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). Allah (swt) challenges these Arabs in the following verse of Surah Al-Isra:

"Say: If the whole of Mankind and Jinns were together to produce the like of this Qur’an they could not produce the like thereof, even if they backed up each other with help and support."
[Al-Qur’an 17:88]

Later the challenge was made easy in the following verse of Surah Al-Hud:

"Or they may say, "He forged it." Say, "Bring ye then ten Surahs forged, like unto it, and call (to your aid) whomsover ye can, other than Allah, if ye speak the truth!’."
[Al-Qur’an 11:13]

It was made easier in the following verse of Surah Yunus:

"Or do they say, "He forged it"? Say: "Bring then a Surah like unto it, and call (to your aid) anyone you can, besides Allah, if it be ye speak the truth!’."
[Al-Qur’an 10:38]

Finally in Surah Al-Baqarah, Allah (swt) further simplified the challenge:

And if ye are in doubt as to what We have revealed from time to time to Our servant, then produce a Surah like thereunto; and call your witnesses or helpers (if there are any) besides Allah if your (doubts) are true.

But if ye cannot – and of a surety ye cannot – then fear the Fire whose fuel is Men and Stones – which is prepared for those who reject faith".
[Al-Qur’an 2:23-24]

Thus Allah (swt) made the challenges progressively easier. The progressively revealed verses of the Qur’an first challenged the pagans to produce a book like the Qur’an, then challenged them to produce ten Surahs (chapters) like those in the Qur’an, then one Surah and finally it challenges them to produce one Surah somewhat similar (mim mislihi) to the Qur’anic Surahs. This does not mean that the later verses that were revealed i.e. of Surah Baqarah chapter 2 verses 23 and 24 contradict the earlier three verses. Contradiction implies mentioning two things that cannot be possible simultaneously, or cannot take place simultaneously. Thus there is no contradiction in this. "Omniscience and omnipotence are essential attributes of the Creator", yes I agree, but please do note that the defects are in the followers of the command not the issuer of the command. This is the reason sometimes a command is issued gradually (like in the case of prohibition of alchohol), and it doesn't mean that the earlier commands are no longer true, after the final command is issued. Infact if you analyse these cases you will still find that all this statements are true even after the final command is issued.

@Anonymous February 25, 2009 10:21 PM

This is the translation of verse 101 of suratul Nahl;

YUSUFALI: When We substitute one revelation for another,- and Allah knows best what He reveals (in stages),- they say, "Thou art but a forger": but most of them understand not.

PICKTHAL: And when We put a revelation in place of (another) revelation, - and Allah knoweth best what He revealeth - they say: Lo! thou art but inventing. Most of them know not.

SHAKIR: And when We change (one) communication for (another) communication, and Allah knows best what He reveals, they say: You are only a forger. Nay, most of them do not know

As you can clearly see there is no contradiction here.

Why I believe in the Quran?

I believe that the Quran is the word of God revealed to Prophet Muhammad –sal. I believe so because after reading the Quran I find that there is no acceptable explanation for its existence except that it had been revealed to the Prophet –sal. Simply put, examining the literary excellence, scientific considerations, morality, spirituality, historical considerations, pedagogic considerations and just the form and content WITHOUT A SINGLE MISTAKE, SINGLE CONTRADICTION ALL points to me as the only plausible explanation the assertion of the Quran itself that it’s a recitation revealed to the prophet. Of course I have examined the EVIDENCE, and out of this process HAVE GAINED DIRECT INDISPUTABLE KNOWLEDGE that leaves me in no doubt that the QURAN is GOD’s WORD.

I think from this you understand that why I believe in Islam is purely accademic. Its borne out by concrete direct knowledge over and over again.

I thank God for this.

Does Allah Misguides whom He will?

In various verses of the Quran a phrase “yahdee man yashao” or "yahdee man yureedu" (22:16) appears which is commonly translated as “He (Allah) guides those whom He Wills” [2:142, 2:213; 2:272, 6:88, 10:25, 14:4, 16:93, 24:46, 28:56, 35:8, 39:23, 74:31].This begets confusions in many minds that if guidance depends upon Allah’s Will, then there is nothing one can do about it. There is no use of making any effort to attain guidance- When Allah shall Will, we will be guided. If Allah shall not Will, we cannot attain guidance no matter how much we strive for it.

Although the phrase “yahdee man yashao” is usually translated as “He guides those whom He Wills”, it is perfectly correct, according to the Arabic Grammar, to translate this phrase as “He guides those who will (to be guided)”. But this does not remove the basic confusion i.e. Does Allah guide all those who will to be guided? Or there is something that we must do in order to attain guidance? In other words, are there any rules or laws or criteria according to which the guidance is attained or Does Allah select some people randomly or (dare we say) blindly to guide.

This can only be understand by reading the Quran as a whole. It is not fair to pass a judgement without reading or fully understanding the whole message. When we see, in the Quran, the verses related about the guidance (huda), we come to know that there are, in fact, some criteria explicitly given in the Quran according to which Allah guides.

Whereby Allah guideth him who seeketh His good pleasure unto paths of peace. He bringeth them out of darkness unto light by His decree, and guideth them unto a straight path. (5:16)

As for those who strive in Us, We surely guide them to Our paths, and lo! Allah is with the good.(29:69)

So, we see from the above verses and many other verses that it is the people who are really seeking the guidance, truth, that Allah guides, people who are not bent on, or desiring to to disbelieve. It is those unbiased seekers of truth that are guided. Another verse mis-used by some and mis-understood by many is; Allah (swt) mentions in Surah Al Baqarah chapter 2 verses 6 and 7

"As to those who reject Faith, it is the same to them Whether thou warn them or do not warn them; they will not believe.

Allah hath set a seal on their hearts and on their hearing, and on their eyes is a veil; great is the penalty they (incur)."
[Al-Qur’an 2:6-7]

These verses do not refer to common Kuffar who reject faith. The Arabic words used are al-lazina kafaroo, those who are bent on rejecting the truth. It will not make any difference to such people whether you warn them or not, they will not believe.

It is because these kuffars are bent on rejecting the truth and whether you warn them or not they will not believe, that Allah has set a seal on their hearts. Therefore Allah is not to blame, but these kuffaar who are bent on rejecting the faith are responsible. The moment they stop desiring or being bent to believing in the falsehood and become unbiased seekers of truth the seal is removed. At the end it all comes to man's own free will;

Lo! This is a Reminder. Let him who will, then, choose a way unto his Lord.(73:19)

Say: I ask of you no reward for this, save that whoso will may choose a way unto his Lord.(25:57)

As for the verse that raised the issue in here Suratul Baqara verse 269, it is mostly because the verse had been partially quoted here, this is the tranlation of the full verse;

He granteth wisdom to whom He pleaseth; and he to whom wisdom is granted receiveth indeed a benefit overflowing;but none will grasp the message except the men of intellect(2:269)

So when we read this verse we see that the message is received only by those unbiased readers who use their faculty of reasoning (intellect) rather than their own feelings or desires, they are the people whom the wisdom is granted, those are whom Allah is pleased with.

May Allah guide us all -Amin-

Ali Dashti’s “23 Years: A Study of the Prophetic Career of Muhammad”(P): A Review

Since this book has come up as a topic, and I have read it, I thought, insha’allh, I’d write my impressions. I ordered the book sight unseen because I like reading srh and I liked the title. Its kind of dramatic.

Dashti appears to have been born Muslim but according to the translator’s introduction, it appears he rejected Islam for “patriotism” and established a newspaper called “Red Dawn”. This was in the 1920s. Immediately, it seems safe to assume Dashti was a socialist, most likely entranced by the Russian revolution in 1917. So he might have been an outright atheist. He must have been active in Soviet Socialist issues because he was invited to Russia to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the revolution.

Given this, I recall reading that there is a body of literature giving Marxist-Socialist interpretations of Muhammad’s (P) life. Dashti’s book appears to be one of these interpretations. Indeed, he compares Lenin to Muhammad (P) early in the book (p. 8). Interestingly, he also compares Muhammad (P) to other social conquerors and warriors such as Alexander, Caesar, Napoleon, Hitler, Cyrus, Chengiz Khan and Timor. Now, he says that Muhammad (P) was greater than they, but only because Muhammad (P) “made his way into history” without the benefit of a strong armed force and strong public opinion. I found it odd that one would not compare Muhammad (P) to other religious leaders such as Buddha, or Jesus, or Moses, or even Lao Tzu. This must give us pause to question the author’s perspective on events (especially now that we know Marxist-Leninism was a bit of a failure).

He starts in a way that piqued my interest as he objected to the Muslim tendency “to turn this man into an imaginary superhuman being, a sort of God in human clothes, and have generally ignored the ample evidence of his humanity.” I could relate to this!

He immediately launches into the issues surrounding the hadth literature and other Muslim accounts of Muhammad (P) the possibility that some things found in the literature are self-evidently pious stories, not biographical-historical stories (such issues are often heatedly discussed by today’s Muslims). Dashti mercilessly ridicules, for instance, the hadth telling of Muhammad’s birth and Night Journey, citing Muslim religious bias as being responsible for creating what are in essence myths, fantasies and fairy-stories. He gives an appearance of fairness by indicating that conversely, Western Christian writers present a negative picture of Muhammad(P) due to their own religious biases. So, Dashti says that neither group was “capable of objective study of the facts” due to religious bias. For instance, a view of Muhammad (P) as “a liar, impostor, adventurer, power-seeker, and lecher” is not supportable and due to Western Christian bias.

After some pre-emptive praise of Muhammad (P) he begins his story.

Right off, given his condemnation of both Muslim and Christian accounts of Muhammad (P) as not being based upon “objective facts” he totally does the exact same thing:

“What most offended the Meccan chiefs was that this call…. came from a man of lower status than themselves.” (emphasis mine)

This cannot possibly be an objective fact. To encounter this so soon after his introduction gave me pause. How he read their minds so well I do not know. While this may have been part of the Meccan chiefs’ rejection of Muhammad’s (P) message, to say it is what most offended is a huge stretch, it would seem, and not at all an objective fact. He does this mind-reading trick quite a bit.

Another example of this is in his dismissal of the story of the Night Journey. Rather than actually exploring the stories he merely writes:

“it is obvious the Prophet did not say such things and that these childish fables are figments of the imaginations of simple-minded people who conceived of the divine order as a replica of the court of their own king or ruler.”

I found this stunningly banal.

First, it is not obvious, much less an objective fact, that Muhammad(P) did not describe the experience of the Night Journey as has been recorded in the hadth literature. And indeed, another interpretation might be: “It is obvious the Prophet(P) had an ineffable experience of The Transcendentaccounts of which are found in religious literatureand described that experience in a way the people could understand.” This is actually more reasonable than Dashti’s statement, because we know there are people who have recounted ineffable experiences of The Transcendent. So, even though Dashti wants to reduce the stories down to psycho-social dynamics, he does not really even do such a good job with that, because he doesn’t really seem to be aware of the breadth of psychological literature on such things as mystic experience, as well as other topics I’ll not outline here.

Second, Dashti will use the hadth literature when it suits his purpose, for instance, in describing Muhammad(P) as shy, or as mending his own clothes he uses hadth. He uses it for his whole story, of course! He does not explore why he would reject one hadth and not the other. One might think he rejects anything that smacks of the non-ordinary, but he seems to accept the hadth regarding the account of the beginning of the revelationwhich is certainly as non-ordinary as the Night Journey. So why he ridicules one and not the other is not really clear. Though it is clear he rejects the idea that anything supernatural is happening.

He also uses the hadth to compare Muhammad (P) to famous conquerors as mentioned above. For instance, during negotiations with the Medinians before the hejra, Dashti quotes hadth. Muhammad(P) is asked how committed he will be to the Medinian tribes over his own, “On the contrary. Blood, blood, destruction, destruction! I shall be yours and you shall be mine. I shall be at war with those at war with you and at peace with those at peace with you.” Dashti writes:

“The repetition of the words ‘blood’ and ‘destruction’ brings to mind the statement of the famous French revolutionary Jean Paul Marat, ‘I want blood’.”

Uh, even I can tell the hadth’s exclaimed oath is not at all like Marat’s desire.

So, Dashti did not impress me as a very broadly-based writer or thinker, and he was not going to actually explore the issues. As a Marxist-Leninist thinker he is not aware of the transcendent, and does not think it is of importance to human life. That is a huge oversight and deficit when looking at religious texts, behaviors and issues.

His socialist leanings to not serve him well in this endeavor, for the book comes off as a form of mere and transparent anti-Muslim rhetoric. So entranced with “the West” and Marxist thought, Dashti seems to have unreflectively swallowed and regurgitated anti-Muslim interpretations of Muhammad(P) which are familiar to many today, and are recognized as being anti-Muslim misinterpretations of Muslim history.

It would appear that in spite of Dashti’s upbringing as a Muslim his understanding of theology was very elementary. For instance, he is very confused about Allh’s role in guidance or misguidance of the human, which is tied to the issue of “destiny” or Allh’s measuring out of good and evil, i.e. “If Allh so willed, all would believe.” So, says Dashti, is it God’s fault people do not believe? And so then how could punishment be just?

I’m not going to say this is not a subtle theological issue. All I’m saying is Dashti’s amazed confusion over this aspect of tawheed points to his poor grasp of Muslim thought, in spite of his having been raised Muslim.

Dashti completely fails to understand the very idea of “a text” and takes great exception to the Qur’nic challenge to “produce a surh like it.”

First and this is amazing to me he writes on pp. 47-48:

“Non-Moslem scholars have found numerous grounds for questioning the intelligibility and eloquence of the Qur’an, and Moslem scholars have concurred in so far as they have found that the Qor’an needs interpretation.”

Uh, every text, and indeed every thing the human experiences, needs interpretation. Its what the human does interpret meaning. With one sentence, Dashti throws himself to the winds of irrelevance. Indeed, it is in interpretation that one discovers the infinite intelligibility and sublime eloquence so strongly attested to by libraries of Muslim literature literature that is just so easily ignored, it would seem, by Dashti, in favor of a fascination with the non-Muslim literature which he seems to simply swallow whole.

He cites so familiar to us the idea that at times the Qur’nic text is not grammatical, unfamiliar words are used, and other “aberrations of language”. Aside from the fact that he does not explore the actual Muslim literature on the Qur’nic textual form, he completely ignores the evidence of the profound impact the language had on Muhammad’s(P) contemporaries reflected in the Qur’n itself as accusations of spellbinding words and as attested to by Arabic-knowing Muslims across time and cultures. What Dashti - in a way indicative of a banal lack of imagination - does not recognize is that the Qur’n is a new and unique form of language use.

Oddly, he does say this:

“… the Qor’an is indeed unique and wonderful. There was no precedent for it….”

So, he says it, but does not really understand what he is saying!

Dashti’s poor grasp of Muslim thought, and credulity in light of “Western” and Marxist (and perhaps Enlightenment) thought thus leads him towards a portrayal of Muhammad(P) not just as human, but as all too human. That is, as a person who acted out of questionable and less-than-noble motivations. Exactly what anti-Muslim literature does.

For instance, he puts forth the idea most of us have seen it before that with the power that came from the establishment of the Medinian State Muhammad’s(P) personality makes a drastic change. Actually, he says that Muhammad’s(P) “inner self” that is, his real self now makes an appearance. Here is how Dashti puts it (p. 81):

“With his thoughts fixed on the hereafter, he implored his Meccan compatriots to revere the Lord of the Universe, and condemned violence, injustice, hedonism, and neglect of the poor. Like Jesus, he was full of compassion. After the move to Madina, however, he becomes a relentless warrior, intent on spreading his religion by the sword, and a scheming founder of state. …A man who had lived for more than twenty years with one wife became inordinately fond of women.”

Well, what can I say to that? This is simply a repeat of standard anti-Muslim bigoted takes on Muslim history. No attempt to place the events in a full context (as would be needed for a psycho-social analysis) no sense of broken treaties and genocidal aggression on the part of the Qurysh and their allies. Just the old standby: “religion of the sword”. Sure, it’s dressed up but there it is!

It is with some horrid fascination we might recall Dashti’s dismissal of “the West’s” religiously-biased picture of Muhammad at the beginning of his book, which I mentioned above. He asserts pretty much the same thing!

According to Dashti, Muhammad(P) now acts out of revenge for his bruised ego:

“During his last ten years, which he spent at Madina, he was not the same man as the Mohammad who for thirteen years had been preaching humane compassion at Mecca. …[he] reappeared in the garb of the Prophet intent on subduing his own tribe and humbling the kinsmen who for thirteen years had mocked him.” [26]

God forgive me, but what Dashti is saying here is that because Muhammad(P) was mocked, made fun of, called names - now that he had power he was going to go humiliate them for hurting his feelings. [27]

Muhammad! (P) The messenger from God! Acting like the kid everyone made fun of in school, now a success, coming to the reunion for some cheap revenge jollies.

You gotta be kidding.

I mean, I’m pretty easy, but even I am completely offended by that. God love Muhammad! (P)

I am going to assume most readers — Muslim and non-Muslim — know that this is not actually accepted by anyone other than anti-Muslim bigot types. Muhammad (P) was never aggressive or revengeful, nor did he have much of an ego. He didn’t change in Medina. Circumstances did. Treaties were broken — not by the Muslims. Genocidal mania was in the land — directed at the Muslims. The Muslims fought back as anyone would.

Bizarrely, Dashti seems to have no sense here that Qur’nic ayt always refer back to the historical situation. So, statements of war are relevant only in light of the Muslims being under attack, while those related to peace are — surprise! — relevant to times when Muslims are not under attack. He does not show awareness of this.

So, a long post, and no more need be written.

Dashti is himself a product (or should I say victim?) of his own times. His country was in upheaval. The socialist fantasy enticed many. Inordinate exaltation of the Enlightenment ideal of the primacy of reason seduced, and still seduces, many. Dashti’s book exemplifies both this fantasy and this seduction, such that he could no longer even dimly apprehend The Transcendent UnityAllh Most High, and so rejected The Truth. Trying to understand and bridge multiple world views, he failed to truly enter either. Kind of sad.

I have to pray he declared shahd before he died, and his sins of scholarship be forgiven. But the book is lousy. Sorry.

Long but interesting comment!
You seem to disprove Dhasti by saying its all anti-islam crap. I don't see much facts from your end to back up your claim of Dhasti being anti-islam or wrong.

Its all blind faith. aint it!
Was there any record of Miracles. Wasn't it true Mohammad was a spiritual and peace loving guy while in Mecca (also happens to be Muslims were minority) but as soon as he move to Medina and gain power, as moslem population grew, he started war. Dhasti has given references to Quran as well.
Is it not true back in Mecca Allah's order was to only tell the people that Mohammad was the messenger and engage in discussion and prove them with reason. BUT in Medina it was orderd to kill the infidels. Isn't it too obvious there is a fundamental flaw there. No matter how hard the believer's try to protect and defend the voices against, the discern minds will see the truth. Pronouncing blasphemous or anti-islam does not prove anything.

Bit off the topic:
Peace TV, do you watch. See how hard they try to prove their arguments are right! Making bold statements and arrogant postures! Last night in a question and answer session there was a question raised about the anthropophormism? Why in Quran it says Allah's sees, Allah hears? Dr Zakir Naik (short tongue) answer was Allah has eyes, Hands, ears, but in which form Allah knows! I could have comeup with a better argument than that!
If i were to answer the question in favour of Islam, i would say, by hear, see, Alla would have meant He knows. simple, that He is all knowing. wheter sight, hearing or touch. all. by all means He is Knowing. Omnipresenst and Omnipotent.

I liked the way you dissected out the book. It was good to see you do it in such manner. Very often people start out pretending to be something which they are not. Exposing the flawss of this man's work was brutally clinical. After reading your review and again reading that book I agree with you, of the bigotted views he tries so hard to conceal behind his veneer of respectable scholarship. I now see it as a pathetic book. Thanx a good read.

Great analysis. Reading him, I knew something was not right but could not put my finger what was out of place. Now I realize that he was deceptive from the start and he was aware of for who he was writing - the gullible. As a matter of fact he was forever preening to represent the fight of upper class women in Iran. However the characters of women in his short stories were all hereoines that had all the components of a patriachial society that he was apparently trying to overcome. In sum he paid lip service to Womens rights, but all too blatantly was guilty of treating women as "inferior". Obviously what he said and what he thought deep down never seemed to gel together. If I was wicked I would include the man as a study in hypocrisy.

Re- Iman..

Iman for a Muslim is certainty borne out of certitude. Without this certitude borne out of reflection, experience and Knowledge there cannot be Iman. The ultimate source to Iman for me is the Quran. It lays out clearly the path one has to trace in order to attain this Iman – That is observation, not just simply that but observation and its recording. Asking then the questions querying those observations and recordings. So in reality it’s just like tracking the coordinates of a graph based on observations and recordings until limits to ones empirical knowledge is reached. Then it’s a question of ascertaining what lies beyond in function of the already tracked coordinates in the form of extrapolation. For the Muslims this extrapolation is limited to what Allah had revealed – The Quran.

As for the Quran its not a matter of just faith. I have the physical Kitab. This is physical solid matter that points me in the direction of the Recitation - The Quran, The Criterion. This is as real to me as the oxygen that I breath, that is grounded in certitude borne out of touching, seeing, hearing and experiencing.

Once a man asked the prophet (sal), “what is iman?” and he replied, “When your good deeds make you happy and your bad deeds make you sad, you have iman. – Ahmad.

Where does this fit with your view on faith?

Anonymous said...

Faith is belief based on Knowledge . How can it be blind faith? A Muslim should seek knowlege until he dies, and his faith too rises.

A believer never stops seeking knowledge until they enter Paradise. – Al Tirmidhi.

Anonymous said...

You all state that the Qur'an instructs you to seek knowledge. What happens if that knowledge doesn't match what the Qur'an teaches? The Qur'an in suras 7:54 and 10:3 agrees with the Bible that the world was created in six days. But, in sura 41:9 to 12, if you add up the days there you will count eight days for creation. This seems to be a contradiction. The Qur'an also states that Alexander the Great followed the setting sun (sura 18:85-86) until the sun sank in a spring of muddy water! Also Jinns, what the Western world has known as genies, play an important part in the Qur'an, right from the first line.

Anonymous said...

at what point does blind faith and knowledge based faith branch off?

There must be a starting point for faith... and the knowledge component that increases faith must kick in.

How much faith is blind? and how much is based in knowledge?

Anonymous said...

@Cathy:

No where in the quran there is anything about any Alexander. The verse you are refering to has been explained in one of the previous post in this blog. I think it was your friend Marc who asked about it. The name used in the quran in that verse is Zul-Qarnain, yes some people do think its Alexader the great, but these are all their own guess work.

Jinns are part of the creation of Allah just like us human beings and Angels. We not seeing them doesnt necessarily mean they dont exist.

Regarding your first question, insha Allah I will post a full explanation maybe tomorrow, but let me give a little hint;

If a builder says that he will construct a 10 storey building and surrounding compound wall in 6 months and after completion of his project he gives a more detailed account saying that the basement of the building was built in 2 months and the 10 storeys took 4 months and simultaneously, while the basement and the building was being constructed, he also constructed the surrounding of the building along with the compound wall which took 2 months. Therefore both his first and second descriptions are not contradicting but the second statement gives a more detailed account for the construction.

Blind faith is believing something mechanically. This most often takes place in the form of believing ones parents or ancestors, without subjecting those beliefs to rational thinking. This is catergorically condemned in islam. Muslims are invited to use rational thoughts concerning his points of belief.

Many have given their views. Scroll up and READ.

The Qur’an rejects all traditional arguments like "our forefathers have been doing it, were they wrong"? The Qur’an’s simple argument was why don’t you reflect, why don’t you exercise power of reason?

The Qur’an pitted tradition against reason to liberate people from the grip of superstition and ancestral traditions. Reason, it emphasized, is liberative.

So Reason is the basis of faith. No less. No more. No place in Islam for BLIND FAITH without REASON.

Creation in Six Days

It is true that Quran does speak of the creation of the universe in 6 days (7:54, 10:3, 11:7, 25:59, 32:4, 50:38, 57:4), but whether it agrees with the bible or not will be an all together different topic which I dont intend to discuss here. The detail description of creation of universe is given in the quran in surah Fussilat verses 9-12

Say: Do you indeed disbelieve in Him Who created the earth in two days, and do you set up equals with Him? That is the Lord of the worlds. (41:9)

He placed therein firm hills rising above it, and blessed it and measured therein its sustenance in four Days, alike for (all) who ask; (41:10)

Then turned He to the heaven when it was smoke, and said unto it and unto the earth: Come both of you, willingly or loth. They said: We come, obedient. (41:11)

So He ordained them seven heavens in two days, and revealed in every heaven its affair. And We adorned the lower heaven with lights, and (made it) to guard. That is the decree of the Mighty, the Knowing.(41:12)

If the days mentioned in the above verses are calculated, they add up to 8. This situation could appear incomprehensible to a superficial reader who refuses to use his mind and logic or to pay close attention. Those who approach the Qur’an to try to discover faults and contradictions frequently cite the above verse. This is specially the case when reading the translations.

The verses of 41:9-12 speak of overlapping actions in spans of four and two days each. The adverbs are the keys to understanding this. The verses of 11 and 12 use the adverbs "thummah" and "fa" which imply consecutiveness of action. Neither of these two, however, are used in verse 10 (the only one which mentions four days) which instead uses the adverb "wa" implying parallel, or "overlapping" actions. In other words, the grammar tells us that the four days mentioned in 10 are a continuation of the two mentioned in verse 9. The four days of "measuring the earth's sustenance" refers to the two days of the creation of the earth in addition to the two days of the "spreading out of the earth's features" (refer to a transliteration of quran if you cant read arabic)

In these verses – from Soorah Fussilat – we see that Allaah is telling us that He “created the earth in two Days”.

He “placed therein (i.e. the earth) firm mountains from above it, and He blessed it, and measured therein its sustenance (for its dwellers)” in four days equal– i.e., in two days that were added to the two days in which He created the earth, so the total is four days. It does not say that the creation of the mountains and the measuring of the sustenance took four days.

Al-Qurtubi says in his commentay that “in four Days” - In completion of four days as one says:I walked from Basra to Baghdad in ten days and to Kufa in fifteen days meaning in completion of fifteen days. This has been said by Ibn-ul-Anbari and others

In the 11th and 12th verses state that the sky was formed in 2 days. In short, the verses explain the separate time frames for each of the events that take place within the six days of creation.

For example, the world renown track and fielder Carl Lewis might say "I am now 32 years old. I started elementary school when I was 6, then I spent 12 years studying for my high-school diploma and I spent 24 years training to be the world's best long-jumper. Then I settled down and have spent the last two years taking care of my family." Does this mean that he was 18 years old when he started training for the long jump? Did he continue till he was 42 years old? If we add 6 + 12 + 24 + 2 we get 44. How then can he be "32 years old" now?. To understand this we need to notice that he did not say that he started training when he was eighteen. He did not say "then" I trained for 24 years. We now realize that he started training at the same time he started elementary school, when he was 6. He went to school and trained for track and field at the same time. After he graduated from high-school he continued to train for 12 more years. They were "overlapping" actions.

Now, if someone wishes to claim that Carl Lewis' statement is contradictory since he says that he is 32 years old but "the detailed description of the breakdown of the years" works out to 44 years, and that this is a "contradiction," then that is their choice.

Allah knows the best and may Allah guide us -Amin-

What Did Muhammad (P) Say?

Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught many important principles and morals, and even set forth rules for combat setting the precedent and still exceeding the rules of war set forth by the Geneva Convention.

Consider the following:

All innocent life was sacred and as such none could be harmed, except those who were engaged against them in active combat. Saving one life was as if one had saved the entire world, while taking an innocent life was as if one had taken the lives of the entire world.

There was to be no genocide of any tribes even up until some had committed genocide against some Muslims. He offered mutual protection and forgiveness to the all even after certain ones broke their covenants with him many times. He did not allow them to be attacked until it was clearly proven they were traitors during time of war and tried to bring down the prophet (peace be upon him) and the Muslims at any cost. Retaliation was only to those Jews who had turned traitor and not others.

Slaves were common in those days for all nations and tribes. It was Islam that encouraged freeing of the slaves and the great reward from Allah for those who did so. Prophet (peace be upon him) gave the example of this by freeing slaves and encouraging all of his followers to do the same. Examples include his own servant (who was actually considered like a son to him) Zaid ibn Al Haritha and Bilal the slave who was bought by Abu Bakr only for the purpose of freeing him.

While there were many attempts of assassination made on Muhammad (peace be upon him) (most famous was the night that Ali took his place in bed while he and Abu Bakr escaped to Madinah), he did not allow his companions to slaughter any of those who had been involved in these attempts. Proof for this is when they entered Makkah triumphantly and his first words were to command his followers not to harm such and such tribes and so and so families. This was one of the most famous of his acts of forgiveness and humbleness.

Military combat was forbidden for the first thirteen years of prophet hood. The desert Arabs did not need anyone to tell them how to fight or do combat. They were experts in this area and held feuds amongst tribes that lasted for decades. It was not until the proper method of warfare was instituted by Allah in the Quran, with proper rights and limitations according His Commandments, that any retaliation or combat was sanctioned. Orders from Allah made it clear who was to be attacked, how and when and to what extent fighting could take place.

Destruction of infrastructures is absolutely forbidden except when it is ordained by Allah in certain instances and then only according to His Commands.

Cursing and invoking evil actually came to the prophet (peace be upon him) from his enemies, while he would be praying for their guidance. Classic example is that of his journey to At-Taif where the leaders would not even hear him out nor offer so much as the normal courtesy called for and instead they set the children of the street against him, throwing rocks and stones at him until his body was bleeding so much, blood filled his sandals. He was offered revenge by the angel Gabriel, if he would give the command, Allah would cause the surrounding mountains to fall down upon them destroying them all. Instead of cursing them or asking for their destruction, he prayed for them to be guided to worship their Lord alone, without any partners.

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) claimed every person who is born is born in a state of ISLAM (submission to God on His Terms in Peace), as a Muslim (MU-Islam means; "one who does ISLAM" i.e.; submits to God's Will and obeys His Commandments). He further stated, God has created each person in the image that is His according to His plan, and their spirit is His. Then as they grow older they begin to distort their faith according to the influence of the prevailing society and their own prejudices.

Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught his followers to believe in the God of Adam, Noah, Abraham, Jacob, Moses, David, Solomon and Jesus, peace be upon them all, and to believe in them as true prophets, messengers and servants of Almighty Allah. He insisted on ranking all the prophets up at the highest level without any distinction between them, and ordered his followers to say the words, "Peace be upon him" after mentioning their names.

He also taught the Torah (Old Testament), Zabur (Psalms) and Enjil (Gospel or New Testament) were originally from the very same source as the Quran, from Allah to the angel Gabriel. He asked the Jews to judge according to their own Book, and they tried to cover up some of it to hide the correct judgment, knowing he (peace be upon him) could not read.

He prophesied, predicted and foretold of events to come and they happened just as he had said they would. He mentioned so many things that people of his time could not have known, yet we have seen the evidences manifest over and over throughout the centuries in science, medicine, biology, embryology, psychology, metrology, geology and many other disciplines and even space travel and wireless communications, all of which we take for granted today. He even predicted something from the past that would come true in the future, and it has..

The Quran states pharaoh was drowned in the Red Sea while chasing after Moses and Allah said He would preserve Pharaoh as a sign for the future. Dr. Maurice Bucaille in his book, "Bible, Quran and Science" makes it clear this has happened and the very person of Pharaoh has been discovered in Egypt and is now on display for all to see.
This event took place thousands of years before Muhammad (peace be upon him) and it came true in the last few decades, many centuries after his death.

Muhammad (peace be upon him) or his followers never at any time claimed that he was a son of God or the God-incarnate or a man with divinity – but he always was and is even today considered as only a Messenger chosen by God. He insisted people praise Almighty God, alone and not to celebrate him or his companions in any way. While most people do not hesitate to raise to divinity and even make 'gods' out of other individuals whose lives and missions have been lost in legend. Historically speaking, none of these legends achieved even a fraction of what Muhammad (peace be upon him) accomplished.

Uniting mankind together for the purpose of worshipping the One God of Adam and all the other prophets, peace be upon them all, was his main motivating cause and his striving was for the sole purpose having everyone to understand and follow the codes of moral excellence set forth by Allah in His Revelations.

Today after a lapse of fourteen centuries, the life and teachings of Muhammad (peace be upon him) have survived without the slightest loss, alteration or interpolation. They offer the same undying hope for treating mankind's many ills, which they did when he was alive. This is not a claim of Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) followers, but the inescapable conclusion forced upon by a critical and unbiased history.

Muhammad (peace be upon him) claimed to be a servant, messenger and prophet of the Almighty God; the same God of Adam, Abraham, Moses, David and Solomon and of Jesus, the Christ, son of Mary (peace be upon them all). He claimed he was receiving revelation from Almighty God (Allah) through the Arch Angel Gabriel, calling it the Recitation (Quran).

He ordered people to believe in God as One, without partners, and to follow the Commandments of Almighty God to the best of their abilities.

He forbade himself and his followers from evil practices and filthy habits, showing them the proper ways to eat, drink, use the toilet and proper behavior in all relationships. This he claimed was all from Allah.

Re : Verify / Cathy Discussion on Creation

This is typical . The Theists with their Gods and Gods books and Gods things always have something to say. They are never at a loss of words. NEVER.
They call it “I N T E R P R E T A T I O N” They will do summersaults with words, they will do gymnastics with the problematic texts and like the magicians would somehow pull out a rabbit somehow. In this manner no religious text – The Vedas, Trpitika, Talmud, Bible would ever have anything that goes against known facts. In the Bible the earth is flat, the Vedas gave rise to suttee and intouchability, In the Koran fractions of the whole add up to more than the whole, In the tripitika we have to deal with the egg and the chicken which came first. Its there somewhere in black and white. But the Theist slimy’s slime their way out of the difficulty by interpretation. “But didn’t you know that this meant this? Surely there is a root meaning to this word …. Which at that time meant this, and so you see after all this is what this means…. Completely in harmony with known facts”.

Tell it to the brain-dead!

Now, if you had something against the explanation given, the logic in it then do show it to us. Since you can come up with no rational argument against it you dont have to insult the thiest(including us Muslims) and call more than half the world stupid just because they dont agree with you. O yes, you did mention about another so called error in quran. Its the verse about inheritance law and insha Allah I will once again post an explanation to this as well. No, its not magic, and we are not twisting words here. If you are really truthful in your statement then why dont you try and expose us.

I wonder if you know how Muslims see Jesus - Pbuh. When I read the post below, I was reminded of you and Marc. So I took the post below especially for you & Marc. I am struck at the words used - with so much respect and the picture is one of incomparable purity, godliness, high morals, hope & dependance on God by Mary mother of Jesus - Pbot. I hope you enjoy the words and now you can see why Mary mother of Jesus - Pbot is one of only two women that we are asked to take as role-models. You can see for yourself why....

Holy Quran, chapter 19 16-34 surah Mariyam.

16. And mention in the Book (the Qur'ân, O Muhammad SAW , the story of) Maryam (Mary), when she withdrew in seclusion from her family to a place facing east.

17. She placed a screen (to screen herself) from them; then We sent to her Our Ruh [angel Jibrael (Gabriel)], and he appeared before her in the form of a man in all respects.

18. She said: "Verily! I seek refuge with the Most Beneficent (Allâh) from you, if you do fear Allâh."

19. (The angel) said: "I am only a Messenger from your Lord, (to announce) to you the gift of a righteous son."

20. She said: "How can I have a son, when no man has touched me, nor am I unchaste?"

21. He said: "So (it will be), your Lord said: 'That is easy for Me (Allâh): And (We wish) to appoint him as a sign to mankind and a mercy from Us (Allâh), and it is a matter (already) decreed, (by Allâh).' "

22. So she conceived him[], and she withdrew with him to a far place (i.e. Bethlehem valley about 4-6 miles from Jerusalem).

23. And the pains of childbirth drove her to the trunk of a date-palm. She said: "Would that I had died before this, and had been forgotten and out of sight!"

24. Then [the babe 'Iesa (Jesus) or Jibrael (Gabriel)] cried unto her from below her, saying: "Grieve not! Your Lord has provided a water stream under you;

25. "And shake the trunk of date-palm towards you, it will let fall fresh ripe-dates upon you."

26. "So eat and drink and be glad, and if you see any human being, say: 'Verily! I have vowed a fast unto the Most Beneficent (Allâh) so I shall not speak to any human being this day.'"

27. Then she brought him (the baby) to her people, carrying him. They said: "O Mary! Indeed you have brought a thing Fariya (an unheard mighty thing).

28. "O sister (i.e. the like) of Hârûn (Aaron) [not the brother of Mûsa (Moses), but he was another pious man at the time of Maryam (Mary)]! Your father was not a man who used to commit adultery, nor your mother was an unchaste woman."

29. Then she pointed to him. They said: "How can we talk to one who is a child in the cradle?[]"

30. "He ['Iesa (Jesus)] said: Verily! I am a slave of Allâh, He has given me the Scripture and made me a Prophet;[]"

31. "And He has made me blessed wheresoever I be, and has enjoined on me Salât (prayer), and Zakât, as long as I live."

32. "And dutiful to my mother, and made me not arrogant, unblest.

33. "And Salâm (peace) be upon me the day I was born, and the day I die, and the day I shall be raised alive!"

34. Such is 'Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary). (it is) a statement of truth, about which they doubt (or dispute).

from hadith
Sahih Bukhari Volume 4, Book 55, Number 651:

Narrated Abu Huraira:

I heard Allah's Apostle saying, "I am the nearest of all the people to the son of Mary, and all the prophets are paternal brothers, and there has been no prophet between me and him (i.e. Jesus)."

Narrated 'Ubada: The Prophet said, "If anyone testifies that None has the right to be worshipped but Allah Alone Who has no partners, and that Muhammad is His Slave and His Apostle, and that jesus is Allah's Slave and His Apostle and His Word which He bestowed on Mary and a Spirit created by Him, and that Paradise is true, and hell is true, Allah will admit him into Paradise with the deeds which he had done even if those deeds were few." (Junada, the sub-narrator said, " 'Ubada added, 'Such a person can enter Paradise through any of its eight gates he likes.") (Book 55, Hadith 644)

Cathy, Marc you will learn a lot and I mean a LOT if you read and compare the events surrounding the virgin birth of Christ - Pbuh given above and the same events written in the Bible. Just compare the naration, words used, picture painted and the morals taught. Good reading and good wishes.

Pls note the above quranic verses and Hadis are taken from the link below. The comments are mine

Pbot = Peace Be Upon Then

@Judge

Allah (thus) directs you as regards your Children's (Inheritance): to the male, a portion equal to that of two females: if only daughters, two or more, their share is two-thirds of the inheritance; if only one, her share is a half. For parents, a sixth share of the inheritance to each, if the deceased left children; if no children, and the parents are the (only) heirs, the mother has a third; if the deceased Left brothers (or sisters) the mother has a sixth. (The distribution in all cases ('s) after the payment of legacies and debts. Ye know not whether your parents or your children are nearest to you in benefit. These are settled portions ordained by Allah; and Allah is All-knowing, Al-wise. (4:11)

In what your wives leave, your share is a half, if they leave no child; but if they leave a child, ye get a fourth; after payment of legacies and debts. In what ye leave, their share is a fourth, if ye leave no child; but if ye leave a child, they get an eighth; after payment of legacies and debts. If the man or woman whose inheritance is in question, has left neither ascendants nor descendants, but has left a brother or a sister, each one of the two gets a sixth; but if more than two, they share in a third; after payment of legacies and debts; so that no loss is caused (to any one). Thus is it ordained by Allah; and Allah is All-knowing, Most Forbearing(4:12)

These are the 2verses your friend anonymous is refering to. Its not as simple as 1/2 + 1/4 + 1/4. Lets be very logical here, why should any intelligent man like you and your friend anonymous will want to add these fractions in the verse. Do tell me the total doesnt depend on the number of hiers and its various permutations and combinations.

The verses are giving a general outline of the inheritance law. This is not the only place in the quran where inheritance law is mentioned and to fully understand the law you should also be familiar with the ahadith dealing with the subject.

If you want to pass a fair judgement in this particular case I really advice you to study the science of "Al-Fara'id" which is a very vast issue and point us to any flaw in it.

I'm not rubbing salt into your wounds. You are so cock-sure. You invite responses by your attitude. So I will make it clear how BIG your problem is. Now the defense is its difficult this, so go and learn! ?????????

Suppose my wife has no relatives at all [e.g. being a war orphan] and she dies before we are blessed with any children. According to 4/12, I get half of her property. Who gets the other half of her property? Only half of the inheritance is regulated according to the Qur'an.
The same situation with switched roles, my wife would get a quarter, but who gets the other 3/4 of my property?
What is the point of the Qur'an giving specific rules if they are not obeyed (because they are just not workable)? Some Sunni schools would put the surplus into the state treasury, if there is no male relative to take the rest.
One step more difficult. Suppose we do have children.
I die and leave my wife and one daughter but I have no other relatives, which means that my daughter gets 1/2 = 4/8 [verse 11] and my wife gets 1/8 [verse 12] leaving again 3/8 unaccounted for.
In all these [and several more such] cases the question is: Who gets the rest?
I agree this can be taken care of by donating it to charities or the local Masjid. But the problem is the Qur'an does not tell us what to do with it.
Can the rest also be distributed among the wife and children?
But that procedure would make their shares different from what has been specified in the Qur'an!
What is the point of specifying clear shares and then abandoning the instructions? Anyway, as long as the shares add up to less than one, things can be settled still "relatively easily." People get at least the share they are supposed to get [according to the Qur'an].
More problematic is the following certainly not uncommon situation:

If I (as the male head of the family) die and leave behind

3 daughters
2/3 (2/9each)
verse 11
2/3 +

both parents
1/3 (1/6 each)
verse 11
+1/3

my wife
1/8
verse 12
+1/8

THEN THEY WILL RECEIVE ACCORDING TO WHICH ADDS UP TO - 2/3+ 1/3 + 1/8 = 1 + 1/8

Where is the extra 1/8 going to come from?

DO YOU SEE THE PROBLEM? MIND YOU YOU ARE TALKING OF A BOOK WITHOUT ERRORS, EASY TO UNDERSTAND WITHIN THE REACH OF ALL. SO?????????

If we take the information from the Qur'an only, then it does just not work out.

To the very least, the instructions on inheritance do contradict the Sura 41:2-3 where we read:

"A revelation from the Most Gracious, Most Merciful; a Book, whereof the verses are explained in detail; a Qur'an in Arabic, for people who understand."

What can anybody say? When its so obvious!

How can you defend the indeffensible?

I have followed with interest the discussions on Islamic inheritance between “Verify” & a number of “Annonymous’s”. We must realise that these questions are taken up by Christian Missionaries as a reaction to numerous lists of contradictions found in the surviving Bible. From them others rediscover them.

Also of note is that these issues relating to inheritance were dealt with by the Prophet himself and his companions and numerous Hadis have come down to us regarding inheritance. Islamic Jurispudence (Figh) has taken all the Koranic verses and the Hadith concerning inheritance, to formulate the science of "Al-Fara'id".

On the one hand common sense dictates that we take all the relevant Guidance from Allah on Inheritance when dealing with a case and on the other hand that we must either become knowledgeable with the issues at hand or refer to the expert who has spent time learning the issues involved. In short “Verify” has dealt with this brilliantly in limited time & space. May Allah reward him... Amin. Below is also an answer given by brother Mishaal ibn Abdullah to the same questions posed perhaps in a variant form by Christian Missionary authors.

These Christian missionaries goes through Islamic Figh books, assimilate the contents, then take a part of the “topic” treated in figh books and pose questions knowing very well that the average person would hardly be aware of the fact that the question has arisen ONLY because a part of the problem is taken instead of the whole problem.

How many people would have the time & inclination to find out? Thus they hope to mislead Muslims. Once again it is a question of Knowledge and education. A Muslim has to strive to get a comprehensive education, and Islamic Jurisprudence should be included in his knowledge bank.

So the professional Christian missionary starts off with a Koranic verse, and builds his web of intrigue.

Do they not ponder on the Qur'an? Had it been from other than Allah, they would surely have found therein much discrepancy. -- The Qur'an, Sura 4:82

And it just doesn't add up: Sura 4:11-12 and 4:176 state the Qur'anic inheritance law. If a man dies and leaves three daughters, his two parents and his wife then they will receive the respective shares of 2/3 for the 3 daughters together, 1/3 for the parents together [both according to verse 4:11] and 1/8 for the wife [4:12] which adds up to more than the estate available.

A second example is, that when a man leaves only his other, his wife and two sisters, then they receive 1/3 [mother, 4:11], 1/4 [wife, 4:12] and 2/3 [the two sisters, 4:176], which again adds up to 15/12 of the available property.

These verses were revealed by God to Muhammad (P) at a time when the people of Arabia (and even many of the surrounding nations, such as the Romans, the Hindus, the Persians, etc.) gave very little heed to the rights of women. Many of them, such as the Christian Romans, would continue for many more centuries debating whether or not women even had souls.

It was not until very recently that Western women actually achieved the right to inherit at all. A right which was established for them by God in the Qur'an 1400 years ago. Even such "modern" rights as pre-nuptial agreements were firmly established in Islam 1400 years before they showed up in the West.

During that age, women in many of these surrounding nations were simply property of the men to be inherited with his other material belongings by his male heirs. In the Arabian peninsula, this very same attitude was held and the common law was that the male children receive the inheritance and the father receives inheritance conditional upon explicit verbal bequeathal. All others got nothing.

When Islam came, God commanded Muhammad (pbuh) to return to women their fair share of the inheritance and to further establish the rights of the other relatives in the family of the deceased to receive their just share according to their relationships.

The verses dealing with inheritance are not only these couple of verses.

There are many other verses in different locations throughout the Qur'an dealing with this issue. They range over the chapters of Al-Baqarah(2), Al-Nissa(4), Al-Maidah(5), Al-Anfal(8), etc. This is to say nothing about the many multiples of that in the Sunnah (Sayings of the prophet, pbuh). Out of these many verses and sayings of the prophet has been developed the science of "Al-Fara'id" which is a very vast issue and which cannot be collected in a single paragraph.

Suffice it to say that the question appears to display a complete unawareness of any aspects of the discipline of Al-Fara'id, its basis, its subdivisions, its special cases, the rules of "Awl" and "Usbah," the laws of "Usool" of the Fara'id, the laws of "Hajb wa Hirman," and many other issues relating to this matter.

This particular example falls under the laws of "Awl" which regulate the cases when the inheritor's shares exceed or "overshoot" the sum of the total inheritance, and in which case the inheritance is recalculated according to the laws of Awl and redistributed.

In the above two cases, the distribution would be "Parents: 4/27 each, wife:1/9, daughters:16/27" and for the second case, "Mother:4/15, Wife:3/15, Sisters:8/15."

There are yet other cases when the number of inheritors and their shares do not sum to a whole 100%, in which case the laws of "Usbah" come into play in order to distribute the unclaimed shares which have no corresponding people to receive them.

Then there are the laws of "Hajb wa Hirman," which encompass still other special cases of inheritance and block normally deserving relatives from inheriting in special extraordinary cases.

Our current author objects to Islamic law and wishes it to conform to his tastes. Christians officially have only one reference; the Bible. This is why he and some of his friends at times try to force this same system on Muslims. They insist that Islamic law come only from the Qur'an, thus effectively blotting out roughly one half of Islamic law.

Islamic law is based upon two references, the Qur'an (sayings of God) and the Sunnah (sayings and actions of the prophet). These two are then narrated and interpreted by the Companions through their consensus and their narrations of when and how a given verse or Hadeeth was revealed (it's context) and how the Prophet (pbuh) taught these issues to them or how he interpreted a given verse or applied it.

All of this information is vital to the interpretation of a given Islamic law and none of it can be taken in a vacuum of the rest, based upon personal whims. At times the Qur'an contains a given law, at others the law is found in the Hadeeth, and in still other cases the broad outlines of a given law are presented in the Qur'an and the details are explained in the Hadeeth.

For example, the Qur'an only commands Muslims to "pray." The details of how to pray are found in the Hadeeths of the prophet (pbuh) and described by the companions who saw him teach it and were themselves taught by him directly.

If a non-Muslim does not like this system and rejects it then this in no way makes it any less the law of Islam or the command of God. Indeed this system itself is taught by God in the Qur'an. Examples of God commanding Muslims to obey the prophet and abide by the laws of the Sunnah and Hadeeth in interpreting the Qur'an are:

"He who obeys the messenger has indeed obeyed Allah ..." Al-Nissa(4):80

"And We (God) have sent down unto you (Muhammad) the Reminder (Qur'an), that you might make clear to mankind that which was sent down unto them and perchance they might reflect." Al-Nahil(16):44

"And We (God) have not sent down unto you (Muhammad) the Book (the Qur'an) except that you might make clear to them that in which they differ, and [as] a guidance and a mercy for a folk who believe" Al-Nahil(16):64

"And whatsoever the Messenger gives you take it, and whatsoever he forbids you, abstain [from it]. And guard yourselves from Allah, verily Allah is severe in punishment" Al-Hashr(59):7

"... And if you should differ in anything among yourselves then refer it to Allah and His messenger if you believe in Allah and in the Last Day. That is better for you and best in interpretation" Al-Nissa(4):59

A messenger of God is not simply a tape recorder that records everything that is spoken into it and then regurgitates it without explanation. Far from it. A messenger of God is a teacher whose job it is to not only pass out the textbook but to also explain the text itself, teach it, answer the student's questions regarding it, and clarify all passages wherein they find difficulty.

Similarly, the command to interpret the Qur'an and the Hadeeth only as expressly understood by the Companions due to their companionship of the prophet and their discipleship directly under his command and watchful eye can be found in quite a number of hadeeth, such as the hadeeths of "La tajtami ummati ala dhalal" and "Alaikum bi sunnati wa sunnat al-Khulafa..." among countless others.

What the "Islam bashers" do is that they take a Biblical yardstick and attempt to force it upon the Qur'an. For Christians there is only one divine reference; the Bible. In Islam there are two; the Qur'an and the Sunnah (or Hadeeth).

The Qur'an cannot be interpreted by Muslims based upon their personal desires. It has to be done in the light of how the prophet (pbuh) taught it. This is indeed the system which Allah commands us to follow in the above verses.

Authors of such lists as this, however, prefer to take the short route of simply reading the Qur'an and then applying to it the meaning they chose, in spite of what the Prophet (pbuh) had to say in this regard and in spite of what the Companions of the Prophet (pbuh) had to say regarding the contexts of the verses, the times of their revelation, and the situations associated with each one, and the intended meanings or interpretations.”

Regret the comment is very long. At least we have Insha Allah a sound varied knowledge of the issues. Please do remember brother/sis “verify” & bro Mishaal bin Abdullah in your prayers. May Allah Guide us all and May Allah Instill in our hearts Love for Allah. Amin

Sister Jasmin, Verify and all other schollars here. I have couple of questions i would appreciate your answer. Im having difficulty comprehending some answers some have given me.

1. Why do we run between sfwa and marwa and kiss the black stone while in Hajj? Mohammad was against idoltary, and in fact that was the reason for his missoin. His ppl were doomed with idol worshipping. Why on earth would prophet Mohammad include kissing a black rock in the five pillars of the religion? why? and we say hindhus are crazy? Isn't is unfair?

My second question is about fate, thaqdheer. Qalo Qadar. well i understand the concept of qadar. that Alla wrote the destiny of each being in advance because he was aware of our destine. he was aware of our choices, but we are responsible for our choices. fine! Also its said that every human being is born Moslem and if he changes his religion becuase of parents religion that is their problem. at somepoint of their lives, they will be given the choice and information on Islam, for which the organs of that being will act as witness on the judgment day.
Now my question bores down to this:
- what abt the ppl who never knew abt islam or anything else. for instance the tribes. I guarantee you that there will be many humans lived their lives and dies without even hearing about Moslems or Mohammad or Allah. Is it fair to give them Hells punishment on the judgement day?
It is said that on the judgement day all the humans will confess and feel sorry that they did not chose islam. they will ask for forgiveness, but Allah would say, its too late.. can you explain that? how is the creator so cruel?
Creator send a message through his prophet thousands of years back to just an Arab tribe and left a book and hadith as a guidance to all humans to come from many continents and cultures and tribes. And the message he left, obviously become confusing as the days went by, which is only natural as we tend to add sugar and salt to each story we have. And also He has clearly mentioned in several verses of Quran, that he guides ones that He wishes to right path, the rest as He will will be astrayed. So why is the eternal damnation after all these? Doesn't it really not make sense at all?

You couldn't have put this better. These are same questions that occur in my mind also. Questions are a bit difficult and the Muslims always trumpets about being different because can ask questions. Valid questions that every single individual MUslim must ask, if he thinks a bit. I am curious what they will say.

@ Yahya

As a regular follower here it looks that your question to the sister, “verify” and “all other scholars” has not borne out any reaction. From the silence it would seem the sister and verify has not seen your question. Maybe there are no “S C H O L A R S” here. If you addressed your question to “Muslims” you can bet that you would have got the Hussain’s, the Yusuf’s, Thakuru’s the Daria’s all coming forward with comments. I have seen many “Muslims” take on the role of defence when they think their religion is undermined. You should have worded your comment different to get them to bite. – That’s my opinion.

After the inheritance issue all seem to be sleeping. :-)

@ Yahya.

I guess these are questions that many of us ask ourselves but then sort of push it off onto a back-burner out of some deep-down fear that one might be thinking some “Kufr” thoughts, or this fear that Iblis might be at play.

These are certainly questions that have been visited by Islamic thinkers in all ages and perhaps it’s the failings of both individuals and scholars alike that these “sensitive” issues are not discussed more freely by ordibary Muslims. Once agin it comes to the pursuit of Knowledge and Education from a Islamic perspective.

I am not a scholar. I’m also not well-read person in Islamic studies. What I’m by Allah’s Grace is that I’m a person who works hard to be Judged a Muslim. So my answer to you naturally is on a personal level, with these just said points in mind.

What is idol worship in the first place? Very briefly for me since everything is created by God, to designate any piece of physical matter as “God” or a “Higher Power” is idol worship. Idol worship begins in the mind—it takes root with an erroneous conception of God. Idolatry implies that you can turn a God that is sublime ( God that differs from anything that you can bring to your mind) into a stone, concrete (or wood or plastic), which of course, we know is impossible because God is “Al Samad” – The Sublime.

This is the starting point. Having understood what IDOL WORSHIP IS, Ask yourself did the Prophet practice Idol worship? Did the Prophet –Pbuh ever designate the “the Black stone” as God? ( Allah Forbid, and Forgive me!). Of course not.

The Prophet – Pbuh was under a “MICROSCOPE” in those early days. Did any of his contemporaries ever acuse him of idol worship? Why not? Because he did not worship idols, in fact he broke all idols. So where the Prophet was concerned there was no accusations of idolatry even though he is reported to have kissed the black stone.

What of his followers? Did they designate the “black stone” as God? Lets listen to Omar – Rad. ‘I know well that you are a stone that can neither do good nor evil, and unless I had seen the prophet, on whom be prayer and the blessings of god kiss you, I would not kiss you’.”

And in Pilgrimage the people who kiss this stone repeat these simple words. So this leads to another bigger issue. What is Islam? Its total submission to Allah’s will. Allah Commands us to follow the Prophet- Pbuh. So all who want to be submitted to Allah follow the Prophet’s example. According to the Koran, the Prophet did not do anything in his capacity as Prophet on his own volition. So Omar –rad followed Allah’s Command to follow the Prophet’s example.

The intention behind the kissing of the black stone IS TO OBEY ALLAH’S COMMAND. TO BE COUNTED AS A MUSLIM ONE HAS TO SUBMIT HIS/HER WILL TO ALLAH’S WILL. In similar fassion one does not drink Alcohol, eat Pork etc. Simply because Allah forbade it.

Regarding Safa – Marwa , I hope the answer is now OBVIOUS.

As for the Hindoo, I do not laugh at them. A Muslim does not laugh at the mistakes of his brother. We are the sons of Adam –Pbuh, and we pray that Allah Opens His Mercy to our Hindhoo brothers. The Christian Missionaries originated this same issue with the black stone. How I wish dear Yahya that you learnt Islam just a bit. If you did you would have known that the very first Hadis in Bukhari was that All actions are judged by its intensions. Allah knows best. May He Guide us both and all of us. Amin!

Noun 1. idol worship - the worship of idols; the worship of images that are not God

Anonymous said...

Sister Jasmin. Again you left me with more questions:
"So where the Prophet was concerned there was no accusations of idolatry even though he is reported to have kissed the black stone."

This is my problem, and at some level call blind faith. Just because his campanions did not accuse him for idol worship, that does not prove the kissing of black stone makes sense. Its against the morals and values Mohammad started his prophecy. Now you said that we have to submit to Allah's will. fine! but don't you question at all what is being asked from you by the almighty. Forbading alcohol and fornications has its reasonable consequences that i agree. that makes sense. but im afraid not the pilgrimage to Mecca and running between safwa and marwa and kissing the rocks. We can not justify it with 'Moslems should submitt to Allah's will or order or follow prophet"

You have not answered the question which i wanted most to be answered. Instead you left it you your colleagues, who does not seem to be visiting the post anymore.

I was under the impression that Islam and we all moslems are able to have reasonable arguments and justify the mysteries or concerns with common sense. BUT eveytime when someone ask a question that really matters, there comes the blind submission to God's will.

Im trying to learn here and i need your help sisters and brothers.

You are talking about a value of a world to be, that no one has ever seen. How can you say it. You are just like rest of the humans, we do not know about hereafter. No one knows. Don't talk like that!

@ Yahya
I’m glad I dropped in. For some reason there is silence to your question. Maybe the brothers and sisters are not free or just that they want to avoid disputation, which is to be avoided.

On the other hand, you asked a question, I gave a complete reply. You do not indicate why my answer was inadequate specially concerning the definetion of idol worship itself and my point that the mere kissing of the black stone does not constitute idol worship at all. You ignore this and formulate the same basic question in a different “packaging”.

Maybe all those brothers and sisters realised that this would turn out so and did not want to be drawn into a discussion of “that sort”.

I Did not invite their input because I was avoiding your questions. It was because many of them I mentioned are much more knowledgeable than I probably am. Anyway lets get on with it.

You said – “This is my problem, and at some level call blind faith. Just because his campanions did not accuse him for idol worship,…..”

It would seem that you did not quite understand my answer earlier. Let me summarize…
1. I defined what Idol worship was.
2. I examined if there was any basis by which the Prophet –Pbuh could be accused of such a thing – Allah forbid, and May Allah forgive me! In relation to the definetion of idol worship.
3. I examined if History recorded this charge of idol worship.

I have no option but to remind you of what I said…

Further as for the black stone we have what Umar - Rad had stated earlir …
‘I know well that you are a stone that can NEITHER DO GOOD NOR EVIL, and unless I had seen the prophet, on whom be prayer and the blessings of god kiss you, I would not kiss you’.”

We see exactly the current knowledge at that point of time, concerning the Black-stone; judging from what Umar –Rad stated.
1. The Black stone was just a stone.
2. It had no power to do any good or bad.
3. Companions kissed the stone only because the prophet was seen to do it.
4. The Companions believed that to submit to Allah’s Will necessitated that they should follow the Prophet to the letter.
5. This point (4) was based on the Koran on two counts

· A- The Koran directs asks us to follow the Prophet –Pbuh
· B- The Koran directly states that the Prophet –Pbuh was under Allah’s Guidance.

Surely Yahya you can see that ,it was NOT ONLY his Companions who didn’t accuse him of Idolatry? Even his enemies who were hell bent on ridiculing him at anything and everything did not accuse him of idolatry. His enemies even accused him of being possessed, but they DID NOT ACCUSE HIM OF IDOLATRY, even though they say saw him kiss the black stone.

Don’t forget that the Prophet had broken all their idols. If there was any hint of idolatry connected with his kissing the black stone, common sense dictates that the Pagans whose idols the Prophet destroyed would have screamed foul.

The very fact that the Pagans kept their silence when he was seeing kissing the black stone is evidence to me that there was nothing idolatrous kissing that stone. I repeat that HISTORY DOES NOT RECORD THE ACCUSATION OF IDOL WORSHIP LEVIED ON THE PROPHET –Pbuh, BY HIS CONTEMPORIANS. This begs the question WHY? Its obvious that HIS CONTEMPORIANS DID NOT SEE IDOL WORSHIP IN THE KISSING OF THE BLACK STONE.

One may ask what is the use of this black stone? It seems to me that the act of circumbulating the Kaaba involves going around in a circle. Obviously practical reasons necessitates a starting point in that circle, where every point on the circumference is equal. The position of the black stone offers a practical way out of this dilemma of fixing a point where all points are in fact equal..

Finally I had put to you that Muslims have one intention whilst kissing the black stone. The intention is to obey Allah period. If that’s the intention obviously kissing the black stone is one of many ways of submitting one’s will to Allah.

@Yahya:

Circumumbulating the Ka’bah and kissing the stone are in fact considered the Tawaf’s outer aspects, apart from its inner significance. They resemble something like the standing, bowing, prostrating and sitting postures observed in the daily Islamic prayers. Yet, the prayer postures, as well as the circling around the Ka’bah coupled with kissing, both form the outward shell of the chaff, which preserves the grain. The grain of the Tawaf lies in the lofty meanings of the Pilgrim’s recitation and prayers, in the soul-stirring emotions surging in his heart - such as his extreme love for Allah, his awe of Him, and his high hopes in Him. Examine, for instance, the words brimful of God's oneness, which the pilgrim utters. It is his regular formula, at the start of each round of the Tawaf, as he kisses, caresses, or points at the Black Stone, declaring: "(I begin) in the Name of Allah who is Most Great. O Allah! (I perform) believing in thee, confirming Thy Book, fulfilling Thy Pledge, and following the Way of Thy Prophet, Muhammad - Blessing and peace upon him!" As such, the Tawaf around the Ka’bah is done solely in the Name of the One Supreme Allah, and that it is never done in the name of any other deity, nor for the Black Stone itself, as others allege. The operation of Tawaf is in compliance with the Holy promise the pilgrim has committed with His Lord. He does it as a believer in the One God, not as an idolater, but as a conformer of Allah’s revealed Books, and as a follower of His Prophet (Peace be upon him). Far from worshipping the Stone, the Pilgrim is kissing it, or pointing at it, just as was done by the Prophet (Peace be upon him) in his time.

Find out, how the pilgrim goes on glorifying Allah the most High, while performing the rounds, with these noble hymns: "Glory be to Allah! All Praise be to Allah! There is no deity save God. Allah is Most Great! There is no handling, nor power, save by Allah's Help." A Monotheist (One-God worshipper) holds these sublime prayers far more valuable than the earth's entire riches. With these, he praises his One and Only Lord, as he circles a spot made Holy by the presence of His House. Now you tell me, can anyone call this Idol worshipping?

… And We never punish until We have sent a Messenger (to give warning).” (17:15)

Every time a group is cast therein [into Hell], its keeper will ask, “Did no warner come to you?” They will say, “Yes indeed; a warner did come to us, but we belied him and said: ‘Allaah never sent down anything (of revelation), you are only in great error.’”’ (67:8)

And those who disbelieved will be driven to Hell in groups, till, when they reach it, the gates thereof will be opened (suddenly like a prison at the arrival of its prisoners). And its keepers will say, “Did not the Messengers come to you from yourselves, - reciting to you the Verses of your Lord, and warning you of the Meeting of this Day of yours?” They will say: “Yes, but the Word of torment has been justified against the disbelievers!”’(39:71)

Surely We have sent you with the Truth, a constant bearer of glad tidings and a constant warner. And decidedly no nation there is, except that there has passed in it a constant warner(35:24)

finally;

al-Aswad ibn Saree’, who reported that the Prophet of Allaah SAWS (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “There are four (who will protest) to Allaah on the Day of Resurrection: the deaf man who never heard anything, the insane man, the very old man, and the man who died during the fatrah (the interval between the time of ‘Eesaa (Jesus, upon whom be peace) and the time of Muhammad SAWS (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)). The deaf man will say, ‘O Lord, Islam came but I never heard anything.’ The insane man will say, ‘O Lord, Islam came but the children ran after me and threw stones at me.’ The very old man will say, ‘O Lord, Islam came but I did not understand anything.’ The man who died during the fatrah will say, ‘O Lord, no Messenger from You came to me.’ He will accept their promises of obedience, then word will be sent to them to enter the Fire. By the One in Whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, if they enter it, it will be cool and safe for them.”(The hadeeth was reported by Imaam Ahmad and Ibn Hibbaan, and deemed saheeh by al-Albaani, Saheeh al-Jaami’, 881)

I hope you can draw your own conclusion now.

Sister Jasmin.
I don't understand why you keep telling me that companions or rivalries never accuse prophet. I frankly do not care! Do we, at present, do you think its in harmony with what Mohammad brought to us in the beginning. You have reiterated that he destroyed all the idols. thats clear i know that and exactly the reason for my questions. Why such a man would ask us to do something even remotely similar to what he abhored throughout his prophecy.
To Jasmin and Thakuru: Im not saying Moslems use black rock as idol to worship. THis is not direct idol worshiping, but the act of this kissing and running around is not in agreement with Islamic teachings. THe act. remember.
Your asnwers give me the notion that we can not question, because, at prophets era there was no question raised about this, or prophet just did it or its Allah's call.
But as you said, lots of Moslems were actually not happy abt this order. Like you said Omar was first to express his feelings. But out of love for Allah and his messenger they did it and i think i agree that if you are a moslem you will have to obey and practice the five pillars.

No Thakuru, i do not see any reply from Verify regarding my second question. Thank you for your answer although it is just copy past of verses. Sorry, but when you say, all humans are aware of Mohammad's prophecy and Islam thats quite wrong. Do you think every human being is well informed about islam during their lives? What abt those kids who grow up in Suppressed Jew communities and perhaps die without even knowing there exists other religion or that guy who grew up in the tribes and died as a hunter. never knew any religion other than his own. And even one knew (like many in the world) that Islam exist, but often its very difficult for one to know for certain that his/her parents religion is wrong and Islam is the right one. How do one know. The kid is brought up and made to believe in Christianity for example and its a very strong faith trust me. You can not expect someone to just break it and find Islam holly. for there is not much difference in them. And on top of all these confusion, it is mentioned in Kuran as well, if only Allah wills he will guide you, If he wills otherwise, then the guy would not find the right path. How can you punish the innocent guy who was not guided by his creator. This is what im craving to understand.
How is hell fire ready, for those who He purposely misguided? why?

If you do not have a direct and clear answer, then you might as well ignore me. As Jasmin said, its not worth involving in this if you think Im talking rubbish here. But i think other readers have same concerns!

@Yahya:

Brother Yahya it's not just love, it's love and obedience to Allah, Allah will test us in whatever way he wills(no question there), as long as we are certain that its a command from Allah, we'll have to obey. It may be relevant here to recall how Allah willed to test Iblis. Iblis received a direct order from Allah to prostrate to Adam(pbuh), he refused stating that he is superior to Adam(pbuh), thus failing to obey Allahs command. No muslim can call the Ka'ba or the blackstone (directly or indirectly) to be representing Allah, if one does, then it will be considered as disbelieving in Allah. So no man can accuse a muslim of idol-worshipping.

Quote:And on top of all these confusion, it is mentioned in Kuran as well, if only Allah wills he will guide you, If he wills otherwise, then the guy would not find the right path. How can you punish the innocent guy who was not guided by his creator

Brother , this is the question that was answered by Verify, do scroll up and look for it.

And dear brother, you didnt really read the verses I gave you: I never said all humans are aware of Mohammed's(saw) prophecy. And islam didnt start with prophet Mohammed(saw) it started with Adam alahisalam.

You see brother, there can be certain individuals who didnt receive the message and their fate is given in the hadith. Further the verses I quoted from Quran is confirming that all the people who will casted into the hell will be those who recieved the message and disobeyed/ rejected it.

Allah knows best, May Allah guide us all -Amin-

@ Yahya

YOU SAID …. “Just because his campanions did not accuse him for idol worship, that does not prove the kissing of black stone makes sense. Its against the morals and values Mohammad started his prophecy.

Some would agree with you when you suggest that just because his campanions did not accuse him for idol worship, IT DOES NOT PROVE THAT THE KISSING OF THE BLACK STONE MAKES SENSE.

However The Kissing of the black stone by the Prophet – Pbuh proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that kissing the stone; as he practised did not constitute idol worship AND THE PROPHETS PRACTICE MAKES THE KISSING OF THE BLACK STONE FULL OF SENSE – THAT OF OBEYING ALLAH’s COMMAND TO FOLLOW HIS GUIDED BY ALLAH MESSENGER.

About the Holy Prophet, the Quran says:

He does not speak out of his own desire. It is naught but revelation that is revealed. (The Holy Quran 53:4-5)

"Indeed in the Messenger of Allah you have a good example to follow, for him who hopes in meeting Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah much." [Soorah al-Ahzaab (33):21].

The bed-rock of the morals the Prophet –Pbuh established was based on Allah & Thauheed. This implies that one bows down to the will of Allah without question.

One does not drink Alchohol only because Allah forbids it. The fact that it has harmful properties exceeding its usefulness is secondary, and really of little consequence in the big picture.

One does not eat Pork only because Allah has forbidden it. The harmful effects that it might have is secondary. Muslims do not and CANNOT question Allah’s decisions. Allah commands, once a Muslim establishes its veracity (the Command) then there are no questions but to obey.

According to the morals communicated by the Messenger from Allah to Humanity what constitutes GOOD is ONLY WHAT ALLAH PERMITS. WHAT CONSTITUTES AS BAD IS WHAT ALLAH FORBIDS. THE ONLY SIN THAT IS NOT FORGIVEN BY ALLAH IS SHIRK. This is I believe the basis of Islamic morality as taught by the Messenger of Allah.

From the verses quoted above its clear that Allah COMMANDS MANKIND TO FOLLOW HIS MESSENGER, BECAUSE IT’S HIS MESSENGER TO US & BECAUSE HE IS GUIDED BY ALLAH.

There are many instances in the Koran where it’s as clear as daylight that the Prophet –Pbuh was under Allah’s direct Guidance.

Therefore it’s clear that both kissing the black stone and running between Safa and Maruwa are acts that which is in the practice of the Messenger of God. We have no alternative as Muslims but to OBEY ALLAH, and follow the Messenger of Allah – Pbuh.

The Prophet came to abolish all forms of idol worship. Even when he was with a handful of followers and had the whole Pagan establishment up in arms to the point of killing him, he did not compromise on the worship of one God. This same Prophet kissed the Black stone, and that is enough PROOF for me that its Allah’s Command. The words of Omar – Rad, sheds light on the issue, and one sees clearly its devoid of any idolatorous motives.

Yes! It was the Messenger’s practice and so mandatory on the Muslims to follow if they were to truly obey Allah’s Command to follow the Messenger.

Having stated my position above I must add that rationally speaking if “kissing” per se equates to idolatry then “kissing” anything would have to be equated with idolatry. This premice clearly is prima facie non-sense.

What counts is the intension at the back of the act of kissing. Certainly, this concept of intension behind one’s act to decide the outcome of one’s action is a huge step forward in human thought and it seems that this concept is alien at this point of time to you. You seem to be forgetting that actions are judged by intensions.

YOU SAID “I don't understand why you keep telling me that companions or rivalries never accuse prophet. I frankly do not care! Do we, at present, do you think its in harmony with what Mohammad brought to us in the beginning. You have reiterated that he destroyed all the idols. thats clear i know that and exactly the reason for my questions. Why such a man would ask us to do something even remotely similar to what he abhored throughout his”

I am sure you can NOW see the answer to issues that you raise here. In the interests of completeness let me say…. Kissing the Black stone DOES NOT CONSTITUTE AN ACT REMOTELY CONNECTED TO IDOL WORSHIP. The Proof for this is that Allah's Guided Messenger to mankind did it.

WHY THE PROPHET ASKS MANKIND TO DO OR NOT TO DO A THING IS NOT BASED ON APPEARENCES. ITS BASED ON WHAT ALLAH GUIDED HIM TO DO. ALLAH GUIDED THE PROPHET TO SET THE REQUIREMENTS OF HADJ, AND HE DID SO. ITS ALLAHS TEST TO HIS SLAVES – TO SEE WHO IS SUBMITTED TO HIS WILL.

At the end of the day, the question is HAVE WE SUBMITTED TO ALLAH’S WILL? As Muslims that’s the only question that matters.

P.S.
As to why I keep asking you to see what the Contemporians of the Prophet – Pbuh said, thought or reacted to the Prophet-Pbuh is to take lessons from history.

Yahya, to ignore what History has to say, what history has taught is a sure way to invite disaster. The disastors that have befallen man due to ignorance of lessons taught by history is countless. My advice, travel the lands, learn from history, learn the Koran & Hadis and make every effort to be submitted to Allah.

Peace!
